Thanks for the suggestion, Atomic Frog. Looks like this is actually with MGM, though it's probably a bit recent for us (even though it is 17-years-old.)

I suppose its with Warner now. Its never made it to blu ray. I saw the DVD years and years ago for $3 but never bought it. In fact I never saw the movie until this Thanksgiving on a movie channel.

Its definitely an unusual "Thanksgiving" film but its funny with an eclectic mix of weird characters. Katie Holmes and the on location shooting and SOV are BIG pluses in my book. Sets it apart from other crisp bright and shiny holiday movies.

I kind of understand why it gets overlooked, hell I did just that to it for 17 years. Really glad I finally watched and would love to see interviews with Katie, Patricia Clarkson and the crew about working on it.

Good to see these admitted JEREMY fans coming out of the woodwork that are not named Kermode.
Unfortunately no. Fandor shut down Keyframe back in 2017. Kind of annoying, as I was just starting to move into that arena of film writing and I couldn't even point people to samples of my work outside of sending them the pdfs and hoping they would believe me. It was a nice little gig in between documentary projects.

Fandor was supposed to have this big change in the kinds of films they were programming, but it never actually happened. They're kind of barely hanging on at this point, which is a shame. I would love to see a streamer come along that curated really lost movies (in that they were the ones that weren't being shown anywhere). And did presentations about them, interviews with the filmmakers or stars, etc. I suppose it's my version of getting to run a repertory movie theater.

And god love the streamers! Their checks clear, and right now that's more important than ever! (Can you tell I've been quarantined for 9 months? I'm chatting to strangers at 9 in the morning on a Monday!)

Film Discoveries of 2020 - Jonathan Hertzberg on Rupert Pupkin Speaks blog

Quote:
Drying Up the Streets (1978, Robin Spry): This hard-hitting Canadian telefilm is harder than anything seen at the time on U.S. network television--and, in fact, just about any Hollywood film--and its plot, while sharing much with the storyline of Paul Schrader's Hardcore, actually beat the American film to the screen by a year.
Okay, now you have an obligation to put this out on Blu-ray.

Thanks for reading the list and glad to know something piqued your interest on it. Some of those "discoveries" certainly would be cool to put out. I guess I'd say, "watch this space..."

Oh, I love lists like that. Unknown and forgotten movies are the best. I have a list a mile long of ones I love, but there are a couple on yours I was not familiar with!

Based on social media hints, Fun City Editions have both Frank Perry's RANCHO DELUXE (1975) and Michael Ritchie's SMILE (1975) on tap for 2021!

Oh man, I love Smile. That movie is a gem. At this rate I’m gonna wind up buying every single release from this line!

Me too. Thanks Fun City for bringing to attention these 60s and 70s obscurities, at least for me.

It would be great if Fun City could issue the Frank Perry film, “Last Summer”, or “Deep End”.

Is Ralph Bakshi’s COONSKIN a possibility? I thought Severin or another label tried to release it-are there still music issues? Absolutely phenomenal work of art

Vinegar Syndrome was going to release it, but ran into element issues.

Last Sunmer is still goddamn WB, which needs to restore it. I saw that 16mm Australian print that has screened a few times in North America-even that is likely not the full film. Very frustrating how an Oscar-nominated, widely acclaimed film can be so screwed over

It was element issues? I saw a new 35mm struck from an interpositive or even the OCN, and it looked phenomenal. Shame. Bakshu has so many shorts and TV commercials that would be great extras

Great, I’ll track it down. I’m surprised Criterion never issued this film in the U.S.

Skolimowski is a fantastic filmmaker. There is a now super-rare box of his pre-Deep End Polish features that deserves to be reissued

Smile is a brilliant work. Along with Prime Cut and The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom, Michael Ritchie showed a rare gift for dark comedy

GREAT films, both.

DEEP END is owned by Paramount here and getting in with a new studio is no given.

LAST SUMMER is with WB, who have been reluctant to license their titles, outside of Criterion and Shout.

And, LAST SUMMER is missing necessary source elements, from what WB has been telling us for years via social media.

Fun city,
Love your choices so far. About how many films did you guys manage to get from
Mgm? With the titles hinted today, it seems 5 so far.
Do you have a bunch more from MGM, or do you have any films from other libraries as well?

Would you guys consider looking into Liebestraum? It’s such an underrated neo-noir with MGM.
