So is it because there's Sony involvement that people are worried this won't get a home release?

It’s not ‘Sony involvement’ it’s the fact this is a Sony title, not a Disney title. It is their movie and their home media product. MovieNEX is a Disney product, so we cannot rely on a $75 MovieNEX 4K+3D release in Japan for this movie. We are relying on Sony deciding to release this movie on 3D Blu-ray for us in at least one territory. Given that they didn’t release Venom 2 in 3D, the outlook isn’t that great. Hence why I suggest you start writing emails if you are as keen as I am to see this in 3D at home!

But isn't this Marvel whereas Venom is in association with Marvel? I thought there was some difference there.

Nope, this is Sony’s show entirely. It’s only through a deal that Sony’s version of Spider-Man has been incorporated into Disney’s (really Marvel Studio’s) MCU and at one point when Sony and Disney ‘fell out’ spidey was going to be out of the MCU until fan backlash made them patch their differences.

Sony has the movie rights to the Spider-Man character in perpetuity with the only requisite that they release one Spider-Man movie every 4 years I think. So basically they own him forever. It’s their movie and their home media release. Disney has zero involvement for the most part.

Until Disney buys Sony's film division. I'm not even joking. The Spider-Man IP is Marvel's crown jewel, I'm convinced they will make a play to bring that in house.
It will be very, very expensive but I'd be surprised if it doesn't transpire before the decade ends.

Yeah it's certainly feasible. I'd like to believe somebody sane would stop Disney buying another huge movie studio but by then they'll probably own every politician on the planet if they don't already lol.

Fingers crossed for a 3D disc, somewhere in the world. I saw this in IMAX 3D last night and it was great, really good use of 3D (especially the Doctor Strange mirror dimension stuff).

I suspected that would be the best 3D. I think in general the first two thirds of the film has the most potential with bits and pieces from the final battle.

That would also explain Sony PS4/5's grip on the Spider-Man exclusive games on consoles from Sony, excluding XBox from having Spider-Man from Sony's Insomniac.

I have PS4/PS5 and they're solid games, but I still think a good thing can be shared so more people can enjoy it without having to have exclusive rights for only a select audience. Sony can be greedy at times, that's true.

This will be a bigger hit than Venom 2 3D, so that's the plus in all of this.

Interesting prediction. I can see it happening eventually. 10 billion dollars or something.

That's hopeful about the 3D. Thanks Ruffian.
Yes to a blu ray 3D. I also wrote in to Sony Germany for a blu ray 3D release of this on behalf of many 3D fans.

Hi xootoo,

Hope this was efficient enough:

"Please continue releasing 3D theatrical films on 3D Blu-ray. There are fewer markets left for us 3D collectors for titles like Venom 2, Spiderman No way Home, Eterrnals, etc., which at this time do not appear destined for 3D Blu-ray.

Believe me, that is a real shame. We are not so small a marketing group internationally.

Thank you for your consideration,

Great! Thank you Joe D.

Watched only a few seconds into Shang-Chi 3D today and was very impressed by the clear and effective 3D with no errors on my screen, even in super fast moments. Alone these rings look wonderful. Will watch it on new years eve. Spider-Man should also be a great 3D adventure. Hope we get a disc!

You will get a little disappointed, the 3D on Spider Man NWH is very pedestrian compared to Shang-Chi.

So it's looking like this 3D bluray won't happen. Too bad. Oh, well. At least Dune is coming to 3D bluray still.

Saw No Way Home last night. The 3D was mild-medium. The highlights were easily the Doctor Strange portions, with the mirror dimension fight as a standout. But even the depth of the mirror dimension felt a few degrees short of any such scene from Doctor Strange's solo movie. I think it was because the film was primarily shot for 2D, which didn't leave much for the conversion team to work with. Doc Ock's tentacles could have popped off the screen multiple times, but no such shot exists. Bit shocking considering the film has the same cinematographer as Avatar.

Still worth seeing in 3D though, and owning on 3D Blu-ray. The bridge fight, mirror dimension fight, and the final battle all sport some great depth.

Watched it in 4DX today and mostly agree with osmos regarding the 3D; I think the Statue of Liberty sequences could also have used a bit more pop-out. However the 4DX effects are amazing, especially when Spidey is swinging around; the mirror dimension sequences also have you jumping all over the place... A rainy sequence right after
[Show spoiler]May's death
also felt very immersive.

I accidentally clicked that spoiler....agh...didn't see it yet...well that just ruined it. Thanks. I'm staying off any forum now, maybe I should anytime a new movie comes out. I don't understand why you have to post a spoiler, even with a hidden text like that before the weekend is over when it comes to referencing 3D quality. Something that big should have not been posted yet. It reminds me when, right before I was going to watch The Dark Knight Rises, some idiot posted a comment that showed in full view and was too clear and fast to not see on a spoiler free review video about how Catwoman blows up Bane with a missile. At least that one I thought was a joke at first. But I should know better than to be in any forum also since people are too tempted to start talking about a film before it's first weekend is done. With that spoiler, and also knowing all the well-known cameos and the mild 3D, I don't expect any surprises and the same experience.

The movie didn't even pass the first weekend yet. You should post that even in a link. I accidentally clicked while scrolling and it's too easy to see fast and avoid. So that surprise is ruined for me. thanks.

And in my email notifications it doesn't hide it AT ALL or when I quote it in response here. You need to remove it before others see it! Seriously. You ruined it for me, don't ruin it for more people.

The guy or girl did nothing wrong, he/she hid it with the spoiler tag which is a tool in this forum to be used in cases like this, if you clicked or not it is on you also it is on other people if they do the same, he/she did not ruin anything for anybody to be honest, now if the spoiler does not work on email notifications is something you have to bring to a mod or a developer to look into, still not the fault of the member that posted using the proper tools.
