Still need to get this movie. The PG-13 discussion is interesting. Some movies like Summer School and Just One of the Guys were given a lot of leeway. Even as a "prank" scene, the Texas Chainsaw sequence from Summer School was way gorier than many R rated horror of the time. And Just One of the Guys had basically an entire Playboy centerfold collage on Buddy's wall, along with the 'reveal' scene and tons of dirty innuendo.

It's an interesting contrast between what was once viewed and labeled as "wholesome" or "PG" between the 60's and 80's beach party cinema that I believe Back to the Beach somehow magically bridged. This was a multi-generational kaleidoscopic story-scape that doesn't get the respect it deserves. Understandably, it's a product of it's time/era. But gawtdang, it's also a Masterpiece.

Get it, while you still can.

Well, all the PPs are LE releases. Is there some other reason you're mentioning that about this title?

Finally got around to watching this after picking it up last year (I had to wait for some summery weather to really get into the mood - it came out too close to the end of last summer and I didn't get to it in time), but wow, what a blast! I'm a fan of 60s beach movies, but I also love 80s beach movies and I feel like this one really found the common ground between the two and delivered the best of both worlds. I felt the way that it embraced 60s surf culture while still managing to be hip to (and poke fun at) contemporary 80s culture was actually pretty creative, and I wish more nostalgia-driven films today were able to accomplish that balance.

I also thought the music was great! I was happy to see that the soundtrack is available for download, but totally disappointed that the final song, "Some Things Live Forever," is not included. From a quick search, it doesn't look like a studio version of that song has ever been released, as it doesn't seem to have been included on the initial physical releases of the soundtrack, and YouTube only has the version lifted straight from the film. I don't know why this would have been omitted.

I didn't even realize this got a Blu-Ray release until today. Do these Paramount Presents titles consistently come with their slipcovers this long after release?

I'm just checking because while I'm not as picky about that sort of thing in general as I have been in the past, I'd like to get it for this one, as I like the look of the Paramount Presents titles. And it will be the difference between me ordering from Amazon or ordering a reasonably priced copy from ebay or something.

I believe the Presents line is a deluxe/limited run line, so all copies of Back to the Beach should have the slip. Regardless I can't imagine Paramount sold out of these in less than 2 years, I don't even think VinSyn could sell much more than that on a title like this.
