I miss Michael Cimino. Whatever one may think of his films individually there's no denying he had a magnificent eye and, if nothing else, they are always just gorgeous on a purely aesthetic/compositional level. A true visual artist.

Thought this was a nice transfer overall. As so often with 4K and HDR, the step up from previous releases (even if not massive here) seems evident in things like the truer, more vivid colour of the white shirts worn by some of the main actors and the intensified metallic sheen on car bumpers and other elements.

Have seen this film a number of times over the years. It just has a great free-wheeling structure, with so many funny lines peppered throughout and the right amount of action sequences. Plus some really nice framing of scenes in those Montana locations. One that can be watched again and again.

Such a unique film. Is it a heist flick? Character study? Transitions-of-life drama? Crime thriller? Parable on lifestyle choices? Slapstick comedy? All of the above? There’s something for almost everyone packed into its tidy run-time. An outstanding effort with strong albeit zany performances all-round and the uhd is a pleasant, filmic step up over the already-very-nice remastered blu ray. Chalk this one up as yet another fantastic piece of vintage cinema that imparts a strong sense of time and place by virtue of its natural charms and carefully selected elements, and would never be written/could never be made today.
Very......Well.....Said!

Slightly advanced.....friends of yours?..........hey were gettin gas back here.....That is a weird one. Cimino supposedly drew on stories garnered from his travels in life for the content of his writing. I dunno here- seems a little too weird to be real. I'd like to hear any specific info relating to this scenes basis in reality......or unreality. That line hey, we're gettin gas back here is priceless. And you couldn't have cast a better actor to play the nutbag with the glass jaw than Bill McKinney of the love scene in Deliverance fame.

Well-observed. And yet....this is quite the understatement. Possibly one of the weirdest and most bizarrely-random events I can think of in any major-studio Eastwood film. Ultra-wacky that there's an exhaust pipe deliberately routed to dump the exhaust directly up through the floorboards into the back seat of the car, and let's not overlook the raccoon in the cage in the front seat. Made even more bizarre for the fact that the right rear wheel rips clean off the hub when the car rolls over, shattering the rear suspension and destroying the axle hubs in the process, and the entire right wheel/tire goes flying into the weeds. Notwithstanding, moments later, however, our dynamic duo is right back in the car, heading down the road in it...That's a serious piece of Hollywood magic, right there.

The first time I watched that scene, with the insane car antics, the crash, and the animals, I was......completely stupefied. The car rollover alone was a major WTF moment. How utterly unique and unforgettable. It all remains one of the most memorable moments in the film for me to this day. While I was ordering this title on 4k uhd a couple weeks back, I was thinking about that scene, chuckling to myself, as I checked out and paid. The infamous Fury Flip-over in 4k UHD....Priceless.

It's tame compared to 99% of "The Eiger Sanction".

Well Eastwood was a graduate of Motech, so there's that. Gotta agree I think could be one of the weirdest moments in Cinema History, like Motel Hell weird. First few times I saw it back in mid 70s we were trying to figure out Bill McKinneys "dialog". Interesting his choice of "high". When that trunk opens up and he starts slangin them white bunnys out for target practice, of course as a viewer your brain cries out please someone whip this *****es ass tout suite, which Eastwood obligingly does to Lightfoots color commentary hey man you're good...... I saw that man- you're good......he's gotta glass head like all these nuts. Like the way Eastwood without hesitation is in the beaten unconscious McKinneys pockets; up wit da wallet thanks very much. What's not to like fellas?

Down to $17.63 on Scamazon, which isn't the worst thing, since Scamazon still has the most liberal and fastest exchange/replacement policy of all retailers, and Kino Lorber 4k discs have recently had more than their fair share of damaged-disc issues from the Mexico pressing plant. My first copies of Death Wish 4k and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot 4k last year were both absolutely trashed on their data layers, and Scamazon replacements were a breeze. Figured it was worth mentioning. YMMV.

Watched this last night and while I agree with the review that it's a relatively small upgrade over the 4k scan BD I disagree that it's too dark. I noticed no crush issues and dark scenes seemed appropriately lit. I think Svet's system and insistence on HDR10 are tainting reviews again. In any event still a nice upgrade, if not an essential one.

Movie is such a unique one. You can see why the director went on to be all over the place quality wise. It has such great stuff in it but also so many odd choices. A really contrived aspect of the ending has always bothered me as well. Still it's a very compelling film in the end thanks to excellent dialog and performances and some truly wonderful shots of America's Midwest.

I have been unable to make up my mind about this one. On one hand, I would really like to upgrade to the 4K disc but, on the other hand, I already have the outstanding 4K-remastered Kino release from a couple of years ago and I'm wondering if I shouldn't just invest the money in something else, if the upgrade from the Blu-ray to the 4K UHD disc is marginal at best. Then again...
Hmm. Any thoughts?

It looks better, HDR always adds that nice sense of depth, but if you have other wants at the moment I'd probably prioritize those.
