Was personally surprised that they used Dolby TrueHD as isn't that really a legacy audio codec these days.

Most discs now have either Dolby Atmos or DTS-MA-HD.

Okay, Atmos has an embedded 5.1 or 7.1 track but that seems to decode out okay on my old player in the bedroom but TrueHD defeats it as noted above.

No issues with DTS-MA-HD.

I assume as noted it is probably a cost issues for why they went with TrueHD.

I would love to see a boxset of Thuderbirds like what Network did with Supercar, Stingray and Fireball XL5. It's a shame that Network went out of business, they had a great collection from Comedy to Sci-Fi.

Just a head's up; Anderson Entertainment will do a livestream Monday containing home video details (and surprise announcements).

Stay tuned and be there!

Best guess: box art extras and release date for the thunderbirds blu ray set.

Next best thing: Anderson entertainment releases of thunderbirds are go/6 licensed from mgm.

Less likely than the previous 2: thunderbirds are go complete blu ray set.

Never gonna happen in a million years: an Anderson entertainment release of thunderbirds (2004) in 4k

If they were smart they’d do this and cover the…cover… with text trying to make you associate it with better things like they used to do with straight-to-dvd stuff:

‘STARRING THE DIRECTOR OF THE BRUTALIST’

‘ACADEMY AWARD WINNER BEN KINGSLEY’

‘GOOSE IS IN THIS. YEAH, THE ONE FROM TOP GUN!’

‘ONE OF THE ACTORS FROM BAD BOYS FOR LIFE IS IN THIS'

Unlike Space Precinct , Anderson for now seem to be keeping

exclusive to their own site, as many weeks after announcement still not listed by Amazon or HMV. May well sell via Amazon Marketplace after release date.

Today being Gerry Anderson day their offering 15% site wide off their site (couldn't see a pre-order exclusion) which will nullify their postage charge. Spend £50, this is £35 and postage is free, although caveated they hold the whole order until all items ready and this isn't released until end May.

The latest Gerry Anderson podcast mentions for the super space theatre release the 2 bonus vhs exclusives (the machines, heroes and villains) are included in the original mastered vhs betas for nostalgia and the quality was described as appalling. They mentioned for other volumes of super space theatre that space 1999 would be appropriate for this year. They also teased a third range of releases alongside the season releases and the super space theatre releases. No specifics of what it is but “it will be a lovely way to access a new level let’s say”

Thanks. So as with other places a pre-order exclusion makes the promotion worthless.

Erm, Dolby Atmos is literally encoded to disc as a TrueHD 7.1 stream with a packet of Atmos metadata on top, there's nothing "legacy" about TrueHD as it will always be needed to deliver Atmos on disc. In several respects DTHD is more complex to author than DTS-HD which is why it's rarely used for channel-based surround encoding any more.

So no big details today in the livestream, but we will get an array of new an archival extras and new restorations of the current HD masters with corrected shots for episodes like Operation Crash Dive.

Bigger note though, as Grazey1 first broke it here, the show will soon start receiving a 4K release starting with a compilation release of 2 episodes (Trapped in The Sky and Terror in New York City) in steelbook packaging. Space: 1999 Breakaway also coming.

It was quite a bit of time focusing on comic book collections models and corgi.

By the sound of things it will be selected ones. I don’t really fancy spending god knows how much on 16 or 17 seperate 4k thunderbirds releases.

I was in 2 minds about a Super space theatre space 1999 release considering it’s available but hearing what they got planned for it I’m guessing I’m in for volume 2 later in the year. It will contain all 4 the spazio 1999 and also a brand new one. Sounds like despite not having any we will get a terrorhawks volume added to it as well

I would imagine the 4K compilation would be a testing grounds of sorts to see if restoring and releasing the entire series in 4K is worth the venture (and let's be honest; it should be).

And while I'm not a fan, it's going to be so cool that the new Space: 1999 movie set is going to include a NEW compilation film!

Listening again to the livestream it does sound like special releases for the 50th/60th. I suppose it could still be used as a testing of the waters. The price point for them will be interesting. £25- £30 seems quite a big ask for 50 minutes of breakaway. As it’s been described as a range I’m guessing if they do get the ok and the licence the 2 thunderbirds 60s movies are obvious future releases

They're working on sublicensing the movies from MGM, just know that:

Hoping to see new releases of these myself Stateside (fortunately, Anderson's releases are region free, so it's a win-win either way).

It’s a risky strategy. I know I may just get the 4K now and hang fire to see if more come out in 4K.

A better idea might be offering the 4k as a bonus disc in a deluxe complete series set a la Twin Peaks.

I suppose for me it all depends on what new bonus material they add to make the BD set irresistible.
