I asked for this new model at my local Wal-Mart (Texas) and the guy says he has NO idea when they will be receiving them. He didn't even know Samsung was coming out with a new BD player.

Default Have your local Walmart look up this upc # to find out

when they might be getting some. The upc # is 3672560796.

Have a question for anyone who owns this player. Does it play music CD's in MP3 format? If it does, i'll will definitely buy this unit.

Q:
Did they give this player the ability to disable or extend the screen saver time/option ?

On the 1200/1400, it's statically set to 5 minutes after a pause.
Nothing like watching a movie, pausing it and find that the SS kicked in and you have to restart the entire movie and scan/FF to find your spot.

(btw: The 1200/1400 and other Blu-ray player resume play after a stop. This seems to be title dependant. I believe most WB movies will resume whereas Disney/Buena Vista will not due to BD-J.)

Question what about...

i heard the, 1500, was going to be lacking some audio capabilities, right out of the box. it would need future firmware updates to be up to pare. is this true?

He might mean internal decoding of DTS HD MA, but that is not an anounced feaure I think, so if it ever comes, it would be a bonus.

This being said, if you have a recent Amp that can decode THD and MA, this unit has it all it seems. In fact, unless you have an amp that can only do LPCM and the DTS MA is a deal breaker, this unit is probably the best standalone (as far as completeness goes, but also feature/price ratio) on the market so far.

I got my 1500 at BB yesterday evening. Hooked it up and tried it out some last night. Once I adjusted the display and audio settings everything was great. The one thing I'm not crazy about is that, contrary to specs I've seen, there's no coaxial digital audio out. That's only an issue because I have an older receiver with only 1 coaxial and 1 optical and my ATT U-Verse box only has optical too. I'll get a receiver before too long, so in the meantime I guess I'll just have to swap the optical between the 1500 and U-Verse.

I thought the specs said it decodes TrueHD as 2 channel only. Is that true?

I'll need to double-check, but I do believe it decodes TrueHD as two-channel over optical only. I'll check later on tonight when I get home from work, or tomorrow morning.

By all 3 major audio codecs, I assume you mean Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio, but what's the 3rd?

As far as everyone asking about the 2.0 thing, I got to see one today at BB. It only has 2 channel analog audio output. So while it may truly decode Dolby True HD, it doesn't have the necessary connections to output all the channels.

Checking the online owner's manual from work, there's a chart on page 35 that lists the pros and cons of each audio decoding setting. For PCM, it says "You can also enjoy Dolby TrueHD sound even if your receiver cannot decode Dolby TrueHD" as a pro, with no mention of a two-channel limitation. As a con, it simply says "You cannot hear DTS-HD sound with this setting even if you have an HDMI 1.3 receiver which has DTS-HD decoding capability." Again, no mention here of a two-channel DTHD decoding limitation.

Image provided by FilmMixer.

And then again, on page 36, under the Audio Setup heading, it says "When the player outputs HD audio bitstream (Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio) from the Optical jack to an HDMI 1.3 receiver only 2 channel PCM audio will be heard." (Emphasis is mine.)

Default Hooked my up last night

and played Independence Day. All I can say is wow. So far, I am very pleased with the player and it looks like a great deal at $350 from Walmart.

I have watched a ton of different movies so far and everything works great.

The Descent watching in 6.1 PCM was incredible compared to before I bought my new receiver and had Dolby 5.1.

I have confirmed getting Dolby TrueHD 5.1 passed from the player to the receiver and outputting as PCM, I have a new Sony 1.3 HDMI receiver capable of up to 7.1 PCM over HDMI. Also the uncompressed PCM tracks pass over as well to the receiver and are loud and detail oriented

Even the 1.5 core on The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day are awesome.

I was watching Gone Baby Gone last night in the part where there is a shoot out at the quarry I had it up too loud and my wife complained she commented "It sounds like your shooting the kids, your scaring them" lol I love PCM.

I so want to go to the nearest Wal-Mart tonight to get this. Is it worth getting? I was gonna wait til the PS3 80GB MGS4 package came out next month but I may get this first.

Anyone got screenshots of the back? I want to know what outputs are available. Samsung hasn't updated their site w/ this product yet.

Thanks!

TenaciousMC I stole this off of a different forum. I don't actually have the player myself.
