^ Pretty sure individual instruments will not be available immediately at launch. I am going with RB2 bundle cuz I am hoping the new guitar is a little more precise in regards to the strum bar.

The songs can be carried over for $5 and take up 3gb.

Everything will be available at launch. 360 only gets the game, but once October comes around, everything will be out. If you are looking at drums and game, you might as well just get the pack.

This has been known since the feature was announced.

$5 barely buys you a cup of coffee these days. What's the big deal? The alternative would be to have the RIAA slap Harmonix with a lawsuit or something, and I'll gladly pay $5 to avoid having that happen.

I don't see how the RIAA could slap Harmonix with a lawsuit. I mean, the songs are still legally bought, and it's just like backing up the song, which is completely LEGAL.

5 bucks or 100 bucks, I still think that's kinda dumb, did they give a good logic for that.

No, I think the alternative is HMX would lose even more money.

I vaguely remember reading that HMX had to go back and relicense all of the songs, which is why they've been saying "most" songs will copy over, because for whatever reason (GH exclusivity?) some songs couldn't be relicensed.

So the options are for HMX to just foot the bill themselves, and absorb the huge loss, OR charge people $5 to try and recoup a portion of the costs, and take a somewhat smaller loss.

correct....they took the time and effort unlike Activision and relicensed as much as they could so we could have them for Rb2....it costs money to relicense.....we could be like gh and have no cross between games with DLC......HMX is for the consumer, and its only 5 bucks to have 60 songs, if u dont want to pay it then dont, and not have the songs, remember HMX didnt have to do this but wanted a better expeiernce, just depends if u want it or not.....no one should bash the company for giving u an option, if ur that cheap, then enjoy ur Rb2 songs minus the Rb1 songs....

Quote:
“Rock Band 2” developers at Harmonix have been promising that all the songs on the first game’s disc will be playable for owners of this fall’s sequel. Until yesterday, the only theory I had heard about how this would work was Joystiq honcho Chris Grant’s (hopefully joking) suggestion that owners of the first game send their game discs to Harmonix and get a new combo disc. How else, he wondered, would Harmonix and publisher MTV Games get around the licensing issues involved in moving songs from one game to the next?

Well, it’s going to cost any gamer who wants to transport their “RB” 1 songs to “RB2″ a little money and it will require two discs — just once. Harmonix PR man John Drake broke it down for me on Tuesday:

Drake said that on the day “Rock Band 2″ is released — September 14 for the Xbox 360 version — a patch will be issued for the original game. That title update will add an Export feature to the original “Rock Band” game’s menu. Gamers who select that feature will be prompted to input a password, which will be included with copies of “Rock Band 2.” Then you have to pay.

Harmonix/MTV can’t simply move the songs from one game to the next without having to pay the rightsholders of those songs something. So when the export begins, the player will have to pay a fee. Drake said the fee will not exceed $5. I asked if MTV Games is losing money to make this feature available, but Drake said he didn’t know. (I neglected to ask if all “RB” disc songs will be transferable, since previous comments from people at Harmonix have indicated that a small number may not. I’ll try to get that answered in a follow-up.)

Once the gamer has paid their fee and the transfer is complete, the “RB” songs will be on the player’s hard-drive and accessible when a gamer plays “Rock Band 2.” Note that Drake was only talking about the 360 version of “Rock Band 2″ yesterday. I’m speculating without any insider info, but it seems that this same system could work on the PS3, but not necessarily on the hard-drive-free Wii.

Another reporter attending the demo asked if “RB2″ owners who rented a copy of the game would be able to perform this transfer. As long as they pay the fee, Drake noted, they probably could.

Drake sounded confident and proud of the song-transfer idea, but he also noted that it’s something that hasn’t been attempted by makers of previous music games. It’s an experiment that seems like it should work. XBox 360 owners will see for themselves on September 14.

$5 is cool and backward compatibility is really cool. I don't see what the fuss is about. Below are the rumored 20 free DLC songs. They must be real because any thread that has them on the Rockband.com forum gets removed. Only the QOTSA and Killers song appeal to me. The others that I am familiar with are ehmmm. Hopefully the ones I don't know will turn out to be good, but where is the Kings of Leon, Bloc Party, Radiohead, My Morning Jacket, and The Doors????

1. Honest Bob - Tatooine
2. Against Me! - Stop!
3. Static-X - Push It
4. George Thorogood - Bad to the Bone
5. Blink 182 - Dammit
6. Free - All Right Now
7. Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia
8. Hot Hot Heat - Bandages
9. Bad Religion - Suffer
10. Turbonegro - All My Friends Are Dead
11. The Haunted - Shadow World
12. Pennywise - The Western World
13. Rancid - Fall Back Down
14. Sublime - Santeria
15. Taking Back Sunday - What's It Feel Like To Be A Ghost
16. The Breeders - Cannonball
17. Sepultura - Refuse/Resist
18. Queens of the Stone Age - No One Knows
19. The Killers - Somebody Told Me
20. Harvey Danger - Cream and Bastards Rise

What about RB1 downloaded songs? Will they be able to port to RB2? Sure, access to the songs on the BD are nice, but what about all those songs we bought through the Playstation Store?

The DLC is totally compatible with RB2 and the RB1 disc songs can be ported for only $5

Those will automatically show up in RB2. No extra effort required there.

Trying to decide when to sell my Rock Band 1 disc and microphone, for best money, but while still getting to play... probably now would be the best time, and then put that money towards RB2 bundle.

Though I want to know which songs wont come over..
