Which has the real original grain, which is less than the grain of all subsequent copies (grain visible in print = original negative grain + added IP stock grain + added IN stock grain + added print stock grain). On top of that each film element copy-step blurs the image, lowering sharpness' contrast and resolution, as specified in the MTF (Modulation Transfer Function), being like dubbing a cassette onto another cassette onto another cassette etc. More hiss and distortion, less clarity and dulled highs. The Digital intermediate process alleviates this by bypassing some of the film dupe steps (specially bad with SFX and opticals in the past, which had several added duping steps for those shots, before being added to the live action negative.

Just like many DVDs looked cleaner and more vibrant than some film theaters, HD transfers done directly from the original film element (in-camera negative) or directly from the DI, can have a cleaner, sharper image than a print. Most people seem to think along the lines of "The print used for this transfer" or similar, maybe thinking it's being done from a clean print used on theaters, while normally the transfer is (or should) be done from the earliest element possible for highest quality. Should a transfer replicate the added grain and softness and hue errors and loss of contrast of a multigenerational print, or what's on the original negative or can be seen on a first generation (answer) print of it, etc?

Always keep all this in mind when evaluating transfers on HD media.
To get the right answer one needs to ask the right question. This is the right question

I'm amazed by everything I'm reading here.. not just you buddy but many here need to do their homework. Cleaning up flim removes high frequency detail... you know, the fine detail that make Blu-ray wonderful!! That's why everyone hates on Warner.. DNR kills detail and makes things like softer then it should be.
Dude I said a film projector, you like your film look so much buy a film projector. This is a new day and age get with the times I am sure you prefer records to cds as well.

[sarcasm]Yes, because that's the same.[/sarcasm]

Does anybody know when Sony's release of Iron Man (and Incredible Hulk) is coming out in Japan? I couldn't find them on Amazon. I'm interested to see how they compare.

You are such a stallion.. you really are my hero

Hey hero, please tell me where I can get a film projector that will play my Blu-rays? Better yet, where can I find Iron Man on FILM? I'm so old and out of date that I just can't figure these things out

BTW: Check my sig to see if I meet your definition of a "new day and age" setup? Go play your video games and leave this convo for real film lovers

It's been reported that the Blu-ray's Dolby TrueHD track is activating Dynamic Range Control (DRC) in many AVRs. Users are advised to turn OFF Dynamic Range (Night Mode) option in their AVRs / players to experience lossless audio in it's full glory. Users who have configured their players to do the decoding internally need not care about this problem.

Apparently according to the IGN review the film apparently has noise throughout it...if it does it totally contridicts the BluRay.com's review. I really hope I can trust the reviews on this site....

Just a quick note for those who want the Blu in advance... Tower.com states that it ships within 12 hours. Meaning they are shipping early on this one too.
