And it's not required, so if you don't like it or want it, don't use it. Pretty simple.

To me, it's potentially a way to hook up with people to play, however, I'm far less interested in Home since in-game XMB finally came out. Now I don't have any problems playing with friends.

I'm really hoping I'm missing something, but I just don't see how this thing will be a big deal. It takes longer to get to home than it does for me to boot up LBP, so for me speed is the big limiter that discourages me from goofing around with it randomly.
The first time it actually installs the area, so the first time will always be slow.

Its built like a system of modules that connect together you only need the base module to actually use it, the other modules are at the users discretion.

I think you may be missing the point of Home. I don't believe Home is suppose to be a game (something to take time away FROM your gaming). It's suppose to COMPLEMENT your gaming...to be a LAUNCHPAD for said gaming and finding people to game with.

Of course, to SOME people it will be a lot more than a social launchpad to gaming. It's meant to serve multiple purposes for many different types of people. It's truly like a home. Your home is a launchpad for MANY things. Your home is a launchpad for going to work, hang out, meeting people, going to the theater, etc. I believe THIS is at the core of Home.

In the end, a social venue ultimately needs LOTS OF PEOPLE in order to come alive and take shape. I look forward to that time.

I got the beta code. Damn thing is like 3.5GB! I had to delete stuff to get it going. WAY more than the 500MB they claimed in March 07.

I will try to post more when I mess with it.

Well, I think what would help Home out tremendously is if it would give users the option to automatically put you within the Home environment when you boot up your PS3. If it remains as something you will have to enter into separately from the XMB, I don't see that many people using it. It needs to become a natural part of logging onto the PS3.

I got an invite to the closed beta last night... The email said it was from d/l the theme.....

Install was only like 85mb... don't know what the guy above is talking about 3.5gigs?

Set up my character, there should be a feature to use the PSeye to create your character...

Set up (questionable) my new home... very little options, I know its a beta but come on...

Went to Central Park where there were people wandering around aimlessly...

Exciting...

They should offer stuff to beta users to carry over to Home when it is released.... kind of a thanks for testing it out.

But in another way, too much people will almost kill to have access to beta (without any incetive) so I don't think it will ever happen

Yeah, I know that - but even just getting in in the first place is fairly slow for me. Would also be nice if there was an option to download all the modules in one shot or select certain ones for download or allow you to do other stuff while ine is downloading. I hope they figure it out before launch, but nothing kills it for me more than going to explore home, having to wait 15 minutes to download an area (staring at a blank screen), spend a minute looking around that area, then hitting another 15 minute load.

If I use your definition of Home (which I agree with and is my original expectation) then it fails miserably. If I want to find random people to play with, why would I go to home? Why not actually play with people in game in question and add ones I like to my friends? The problem is that you can do the same thing without home and home slows the whole thing down.

In theory, I love the idea of Home, but in practice I'm just not feeling it yet. I'm sure part of it is not knowing a lot of people on it, but some of it is the speed and the structure.

If Home ran quickly and were your primary way to tool around your PS3 (still having the XMB), that I would definitely see it as a compliment. But the problem is that it works just like a movie or game. It's either that or LBP - it's not like I can hop back to home, leave LBP idle a few minutes, and go to the MM sponsored section of Home to see if anyone else is interested in tag-teaming a particular level. That would be wonderful, but it doesn't work that way.

It's not even 3.5GB. Last I remember, it's under 100MB but once launched it reserves the extra space, which they may not have settled on.

Oh im sorry I did not mean to apply it was 3.5gb I just said it got bigger, it was a general comment to what he said, I have not checked the file size Ill do that tonight I had doubted the 3.5 I just thought he was exaggerating like most folks seem to do..

The farcry 2 space weighs at 35mb, the theater weights in the range of 9mb-10mb.

When you play around with the beta, are there any graphical glitches present? I didn't see any on youtube videos.

You are right.

When I downloaded the ~85MB from the code, and then tried to launch it, it said I needed to clear up another 1.3GB from my HDD, for a total of 3.5GB free space.

Everything (theater, Mall, Plaza, etc) is still WELL under 150GB, and that irritates me that I had to delete 1.5GB of stuff, when I had 2GB free.

I just figured it out this morning.

Anyway
1. Load times are horrible. But once you are in a space, there is no problem, so you only have to deal with load times if you choose.

2. Not a lot to do/see. It is obviously not the scope it will be down the road, yet.

3. OUTSTANDING looking. Everything looks great so far.

4. Ads and music and stuff is non-intrusive. You have to walk over to the screen to hear it, but you can watch from a distance.

Over all, I think it is far from living up to the "hype," but when it is done, I think it will be an awesome selling point for PS3/PS4/PS5

The graphics are just nice to look at. The house you start in is a small studio, with a huge deck with a nice view. Interacting with people is easy. About 2 or 3 dozen preset speech options (ie "hello" "where are you from"), and physical greetings (salute, wave, etc), and several other options for interacting with other folks.

It seems, though, that it is missing something to make it worth going into. Not sure what it is, but why load home (takes as long to load home as it does to load a game)? I dont get it yet.

Anyway, bottom line, fun and interesting, but not uber-great
