Yeah... sometimes those promos are WAY misleading as they are clips out of context... but they also could have been setting something up in case she decided to opt out for next season.

It's probably from a dream or something.

The 'House' season finale: EP Greg Yaitanes says no one will see the ending coming
Quote:
Let me just put this out there: I will be thrilled if Cuddy doesn’t die tonight on the season finale of House. Yes, we know that Lisa Edelstein will not be returning next season, but there are other ways to say farewell to a character as beloved-by-many as Lisa Cuddy. Right? Well, we hope so. But there’s really no telling what executive producer Greg Yaitanes and team House have up their sleeve.

“The big, ongoing thesis of our season is: Can House really change?” he told us, days before it was announced that Edelstein would not be returning next season. “At the end of the day, can people really change? Can people really change who they are? And what does it take to do that? And that, very much is at the core of the conflict in the finale. What is it gonna mean to make lasting change? He’s coming to grips with the change he’s capable of. I think we all want to believe we’re capable of great change and the right things will inspire that so has this season brought the elements to change House, truly? And also, where has that hurt gone, from the break-up? Where is that hurt form the break-up with Cuddy living? So we’re gonna learn that as well.”

And while Yaitanes told us there were no plans to revisit the romance, he added: “I think although they care, they haven’t dealt with it. The lack of closure is still very much in the air and the lack of closure is gonna be the engine to the very, very conclusion of the final episode.” And about that cliffhanger: “No one will see it coming.”

“It’ll definitely leave a lot of questions of where we’re gonna start next year,” he said. “The finale will leave fans wondering a lot of things, wondering what next season is gonna look like. Which is good, which is exactly what we want. There will be full closure on the events of the season and there’s a new chapter that’s gonna start.”

That was a maddening finale, especially with next season probably being the last and Cuddy no longer on the show.

Good lord, House.

Not to spoil what happens specifically...

but there's no realistic way House doesn't end up doing jail time... and by all rights, given his past history, his medical license should probably be gone too.

IF this show was completely realistic, next season would have to be completely different.

I didn't care for the finale at all. I thought the "Case of the Week" was incredibly boring, and I cared not one iota whether that woman lived or died. She was completely unsympathetic and while Shoreh is a fantastic actress, that was just a terrible case.

The twist with Taub was kinda hilarious in a twisted kinda way.

The ending, while pretty crazy, was completely stupid and smells of desperation. Although this show has NEVER really been steeped in reality or rational situations. On a REASONABLE and realistic type show, House would have never made it this far. He should have been fired YEAAAAAAAAARS ago, and had his license revoked years ago, and been in prison all these years.

That said, I'm not sad to see Edelstein go, because while I liked her character, the one thing I didn't like was how much of a pushover she was. She allowed him to do things that NO person in her position should EVER allow a doctor to do and WOULD NEVER allow, no matter how talented and valuable the doctor was.

Maybe next year House will be
[Show spoiler]operating in the Carribbean somewhere
. I don't know, and while I'll still watch next year, I just really don't give a shit.

I know, the ads did mention he would do something that could affect his relationship with Wilson and Cuddy but I didn't expect something like that... it seems to me that he is finally going crazy...

While I did not care about the case they were working on, the rest of the episode was pretty good... and Taub's reply to her ex-wife was hilarious!

Well considering how it happened, I can't see season 8 being at the same hospital AT THE LEAST. If House stays out of jail and keeps his license they will have to go to a different location.

start of season 8:
[Show spoiler]1. House wakes up in hospital after almost dying in his bath and being involved in a car crash when Cuddy was rushing him to hospital, Cuddy is dead. Final ep of season 7 never happened.

or

2.They do a jump in time, House returns after a couple of years in jail and then we could see Thirteen in the final stages of her illness

That's the only way I can see them continue this show on the same formula like previous seasons.

This has already been used as the finale of Season 2 "No Reason" but who knows?

Or - House is hired by a Rich magnate to run a high level diagnostic service borderline illegal for rich patients with very rare / weird problems, in a foreign country (probably tropical / South America / Asia/ Mexico).
He re-hires part of his staff after a while (hiatus allows Wilde to shoot some more movies, cutscenes allow us to see Staub in his own personal hell, I'm guessing Foreman & Chase are the first to join - Wilson will consult from afar).

It's the only way to keep House out of jail and keep having case of the week, while changing the setting completely.
Now this being said, the ending was actually sort of logical to me.
House was not only terribly angry at Cuddy (and was going to end up hurting her in a lot of different ways), but also at Wilson for having this mix of enabling/ disabling friendship.
To be able to change himself, he realized he needed to change his circumstances. And to make his friends go away, he had to alienate them (while hopefully not hurting them), and break the comfort of having a good job and fall-safe position he could always come back to.

Considering all that, for his own sake (he was literally at the point of ingesting a month supply of Vicodin within a week), he had to take drastic measures. Either suicide, or complete change of environment. My guess is they might also just have had an alternate ending where House dies in the process, in case the show was not renewed, but either ending might have been used as "Series Finale" with House leaving everything (and everyone) behind for his own sake.

It would be a great idea to just completely move the show. House on the move throughout the world in a way. i mean, he's been at that hospital for seven years now. YAY TO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Just bring Wilson.

House' exec 'disappointed by Lisa Edelstein exit'

Quote:
House creator David Shore has admitted that he is "really disappointed" by Lisa Edelstein's departure from the show.

It was announced last month that the actress will not reprise her role of Lisa Cuddy in the medical drama's upcoming eighth season.

Speaking to reporters at a recent WGF charity event, Shore said: "I am still reeling from it, but we just started meeting a few days ago... to map out the first half of the next season, and we are having some very frank discussions about what we are going to do."

The showrunner also revealed that he would have altered the show's recent season finale if he had known of Edelstein's decision.

"I don't know how exactly [and] I don't what [else] it would have been," he said. "It probably would have involved more closure on the [Cuddy] character."

Shore confirmed that he is hoping to bring Edelstein back "for an episode or two" to wrap up her character's storyline, but added that the House writers "have to plan for her not coming back".

"It might be interesting to get her in... to wrap up Cuddy," he speculated. "[It] probably would make fans happy, but we have to plan unfortunately on her not coming back, because there's no indication that she would at this point."

He went on to say that a number of options are being considered with regards to Cuddy's replacement on the show.

"It depends on how things unfold," he hinted. "There... may well be more than one [replacement]."

The new season of House will air on Mondays at 9/8c in the fall on Fox.
Really wish she would have stayed on for 1 or 2 episodes of season 8 so they could finish the storyline and or have given them enough time to change the ending to the finale to something else.

That sounds like the contingency was not planned for at all. She must have really hated doing the show at this point, because character actors almost never turn down a steady job that pays out as much as a House regular.

Her leaving really blows the show's formula up, right in the last season. They need to kill her character off now.

Yeah I really doubt she's going to be landing roles left and right like she's hoping for and it would have been good to see her stay or at least want to wrap the character she has been playing for 7 seasons instead of just leaving her in the middle of a story.

Lisa's exit doesn't bother me at all. At least this stupid Huddy relationship will end for good. I thought the show has been in decline since season 4 and this past season has been painful to watch. I'm glad she's gone, but I must say the season finale was amazingly bad. I feel sort of sorry for Lisa's fans.

House' to introduce new 'female presence'

Quote:
House creator David Shore has revealed that the upcoming eighth season will introduce "new players".

He told TV Line that a new female character will likely be introduced to fill the void left by the departing Lisa Edelstein (Cuddy).

"It's safe to say there'll be new players next season," he said. "We would want to have a female presence, absolutely."

Shore refused to be drawn on who will directly replace Cuddy as House's boss, but did admit that promoting Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) is a possibility.

"[The new season is] wide open," he claimed. "Everything's on the table."

The showrunner previously admitted that he is "really disappointed" by Edelstein's departure from the show.

"I am still reeling from it," he confessed. "But we just started meeting a few days ago... to map out the first half of the next season, and we are having some very frank discussions about what we are going to do."

The eighth season of House will air on Mondays at 9/8c in the fall on Fox.

Wilson as House's boss could be fun That's better than just a new female character taking Cuddy's place.

Thought you House fans might like to see this.

The Good Wife Retains Lisa Edelstein
Quote:
Turns out Lisa Edelstein will be back on TV this fall after all!

House‘s departing taskmistress has booked a juicy multi-episode arc on CBS’ The Good Wife, sources confirm to TVLine exclusively.

The actress — who sent House fans into a tailspin last month when it was announced that she would not be returning to the Fox hit after failing to come to terms on a new contract — will play a lawyer and born poker player whose sexiness is enhanced by her obvious intelligence.

Additional details are scarce, but rumor has it Edelstein’s character — who turns up during the early part of the acclaimed drama’s forthcoming third season — shares a past with Will (Josh Charles). It’s unclear if said past is professional, personal or both, but I smell a showdown between her and Alicia (Julianna Margulies).
