I saw the movie in theatres and the subtitles are pretty much like how the subtitles in MAN ON FIRE were. They are not distracting AT ALL as they are placed in strategic places where the charatcers speak.

Just watch the clip for an example:

I watched the BD of "Slumdog Millionaire" on the weekend (arrived early from Amazon.ca) and it looks & sounds great. The subtitles, as mentioned, are one of the small details that I loved about it. It's truly a remarkable film.

bizarre.. amazon.ca has it listed as in stock.. is this their oversight to the correct release date, or a way for them to be first on the block?

This film wasn't worth the hype or the win for Best Picture. Still a good movie though.

Here's why I didn't like it one bit. Now, going into this movie I was fresh, I had not seen a single preview, didn't know what it was about, and it was an advanced screening so I was completely free of media buzz and praise. I have since seen it 3 times, and here's where I stand on it.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

The film celebrates the most shallow of accomplishments and rewards, game show money and the search for a pretty face. He's dragged from one shit hole to another in accordance with "destiny" to learn that this destiny must his search for a pretty girl with no discernible personality who really couldn't give a shit less about him. But what is it really about? Well it can't be about love otherwise Jamal would be heartbroken to know his brother dies in a hail of gunfire in a COMPLETELY unprovoked change of heart. It can't be about the pursuit of knowledge and excellence since all the answers that Jamal has been exposed to have been through cheap pop culture references and his exploits of American tourists, who in this film represent the "TRUE AMERICA" as fat, dopey tourists carrying wads of cash. So what if it's filled with fairytale contrivances and is too flashy for it's own good? It's overwritten, underthought, it doesn't carry a bit of social responsibility and has absolutely zero issue with further perverting the definition of "true love" to mold to our superficial and immoral time.

END SPOILER END SPOILER

I agree, but all I really need to say is...

overrated.

[Show spoiler]I don't understand why he was so crazy about the girl. She could've cared less about him. Her heart suddenly changes when she sees him minutes away from $1mil on tv? Sounds like true love.

The last two winners were far less deserving. Nuff said.

[Show spoiler]I liked how they nearly drowned him, then electrocuted him, and THEN when they asked him how he knew the answers, they completely believed him and he went back on the show. It was something I didn't really "get".

Another thing is the questions. The last question was a joke!

I loved it and can't wait for the release next week.

Spotnick...movies amaze me for one big reason...how 2 people can watch the same film and take away from it something so different.

But I give you credit, you have seen it 3 times. What drives me crazy are the people who come in here and slam a film they have NEVER even seen and dismiss it as Bollywood crap.

Oh, and I am SO GLAD the final artwork didn't have the BEST PICTURE banner across the top.

Absolutely. If I dislike something, I give it multiple viewings to make sure I'm secure in my decision.

"Manjha" is not going to be for everyone. It's black-and-white, has a subject matter that might be something some would rather avoid (child sexual abuse) and language to give it an R rating. Frankly, even though I watched the entire short, I didn't think it something I would recommend to anyone. It wasn't particularly well acted or shot, which was what turned me off it.

But, everyone's tastes are different and it might be a cultural divide that caused some of that negativity on my part.
