Rhett,

They look nice.

What happened to the original Arcam AVR 600? Too bad the unit does not have any balanced connections.

The old Arcam is with the dealer. He gave me a new one plus the 2 power cords for free for doing him that favor. Cool huh?

I know Brent. I had a headache earlier trying to reconnect all my components earlier. Now comes the long break in period. My old AVR600 took over 200 hrs to break in. This unit has a little over 8 hrs or braking in as we speak............So longggggg

Yes Rich too bad it has no balanced connections. But the new separates by Arcam the AV- 888(pre) and the P-777)7 channel amp have balanced inputs. I talked to the dealer earlier about getting them(separates) but he and I both agree that the next logical step for me is to either get an integrated amp or 2 channel separates and use the HT bypass. Besides its gonna be close to 10k for both pre and amp

Rhett,

I still think that the upgraded Onkyo PR-SC885 is the way to go. And it is not that expensive in the least. With all of the latest upgrades to the unit and the 7 high end fuses, the Onkyo is really sounding outstanding. I think that my system with all of the upgraded equipment, speakers, etc. is performing in the $100K+ range. That is especially with the upgraded Aragon Palladium 1K amps, the upgraded Denon 5910, upgraded Lavry DA 10 DAC, and my turntables system. The rebuilt Dahlquist DQ-10 speakers only have a similarity to the original DQ-10s is in the cabinets.

By the way, my system does not sound like it is solid state or tubes.

Rich

One day when I'm done with all my upgrades...I'll give Dave a try maybe start with my CDP or something. Its just that, I need/want to get a new center channel, better power supply and a sub(maybe a Rel B1 or B2). Plus the 2 channel separates. Then I'm done....kinda.... modifications??? Hahahahaha!

Rhett,

You may want to also put the Epik Conquest (18" driver) on your short list of subs if you have the room.

Epik is a great place to be, they would definitely be in my short list for a sub upgrade.

Rhett,

Depends on the item for my "expensive taste". I try to purchase reasonably priced items that Dave Schulte works on at this point that really improves the performance for a nominal amount of money. Unfortunately, can't do that for the TT.

Like ED, the Epik subs are internet only. The unit has a selling price of $1599 plus shipping.

Here are the links:

Hmmm....Its not that bad price-wise

Out of stock though. How does this compare to the JL fathoms?? I know they are very popular here. But to me its not about how deep the bass goes, but how fast, tight and textured it is, so it cankeep up with the C2s.

Rhett,

It took close to 6 weeks for Epik to deliver my Conquest. I have been quite impressed with the speed of the sub and the driver, especially after I placed Herbies brass/neutralizing domes under the sub. It keeps up with my rebuilt Dahlquist DQ-10s which have Dynaudio soft dome tweeters and midrange drivers, Peerless open backed lower midrange driver and proprietary 10" woofers.

Great read Rich! Y'know I hang out at AVS but only in the Dynaudio and Arcam section. Thanks

Default TWEAKS- Blackdiamond cones MKIII

Ok I was really skeptical about these but my buddy at Musicdirect e recommended the MKIII as it lowers the noisefloor. I was so surprised how light they were and I was like: "This is it????!!!" when I held it in my hands. Before I left my buddy said that I won't be disappointed. So I bit the bullet and went home. I figure, they have a 30day money back crap anyhow I simply placed the cones on the chasis of the CDP, bypassing its cheapo feet. Here's the picture of my CD5x with the cones

What did I think? Let me just transpose my earlier post from the VIBRATION CONTROLS thead.

"I just picked up the Blackdiamond cones MKIII earlier and it made a heck of a difference.

So far:

When playing Queen greatest hits CD, I normally crank up the volume of the Arcam to around 60 or so but was surprised to hear more detail at lower volumes now at around 50-52 and the bass now has more extension going to the listening position.

Evanessence- MY IMMORTAL, I can now hear the parting of Amy Lee's lips and the click/pop of her saliva as opens her mouth before she sings.

Tori Amos Under The Pink: Tori's subtle breaths before and after each line is more defined and alot clearer.

Sheesh! Now I feel like picking up 3 more for my Arcam

*As of this writing the AVR 600 is still in the middle of the break in process and probably has 24hrs tucked under its belt."
