My replacement is on its way but it’s really annoying that I have to go and return it. Still kind of surprised I received a product like that from Amazon.
My replacement copy arrived today and it has a slipcover!

Sometimes I have better luck with third party sellers. You'd think it would be the opposite.

Well, I saw this at a local theater tonight, and it was a good experience overall. There was a good crowd there, including lots of young faces that have never seen the film before (yes the manager/emcee always asks), and they seemed very into the film. The jump scare at the end STILL WORKS all these years later. The manager/emcee also talked about this film playing at this very theater for a preview show back in Nov 1976. He even brought old newspaper ads to show us. I also won two free tickets for answering the trivia question about who voiced the kid on the bike (answer: Betty Buckley).

However, the film itself looked like shit. It was the old master, but I don’t remember the 2008 MGM Blu-ray having this much print damage. Nary a second went by without white specs on the screen, and the first reel had a blue scratch that ran in the middle for a long period of time. This wasn’t (to my knowledge) a print, but a DCP, and the film still runs like this on cable too. The print also began with the Park Circus logo for some reason. I knew it wasn’t the Shout! Factory/Arrow Video transfer the moment the girls were playing volleyball in the opening shot. I had to appreciate this presentation as a sort of “grindhouse” look for the film, which was just unfortunate. I’m sure it made the film look “older” to the younger audience here, but I had to hope that the average audience wouldn’t really know. What a damn shame.
When Scream Factory or Arrow does a new transfer for a film, does the official DCP usually not get updated like this?

Think this may be one of the few King adaptations I don't recall ever seeing even despite owning it on dvd and blu. But I got tickets for this in the theater and am looking forward to seeing it. It would be cool to watch the entire IT miniseries in a theater even if it were just played directly from the blu.

This film was terrific. I'm kind of surprised I never saw it until now. And I even noticed some pop culture catch phrases were lifted from it: "get her done" and "they're all gonna laugh at you." It also seemed like Zapped! was a comedic spin on the same concept. The cinema curator spoiled the ending during the warmup speech, but otherwise the a/v was solid and looked to be about what the SF disc represents. A respectful crowd as well, which was nice for a cult screening.

Yeah Carrie is one of my all time top 10 horror films. It's a great coming of age film as well.

That is a dick move. I don't care if it's a movie that's over 40 years old, when you screen it in a theater, you have to assume at least some of the people present will be seeing it for the first time.

I remember when I saw the theatrical reissue of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind in 2017, and it was proceeded with a ten-minute making-of featurette that spoiled several key visual sequences toward the end of the movie! We don't NEED introductions to classic films, just let us WATCH it and maybe throw something on after the film for die-hards to watch.

I hate that. Even if I've seen the movie before, even if it's a movie I've seen a hundred times before, I hate seeing out of context clips of the movie immediately before I'm about to watch it.

Probably a reach. It was just something I noticed as Travolta said it.

I am somewhat surprised that Shout Factory hasn't lost the rights to this given that it's an MGM title, and was released around the same time as the others that are now going out of print.

The titles that are going OOP are, apparently, low selling titles Shout chose not to renew. If anything, “Carrie” would definitely not be considered a low selling title.

I own both the AF and Arrow releases, and both look leagues better than the crummy MGM Blu from a decade ago.

It would be hard to imagine a classic horror staple like Carrie or The Thing being allowed to go OOP. New people discover those films every Halloween season.

It would be ridiculous for it go out of print, but my perception was that Shout was clearing out all their MGM titles, not just low-sellers (this of course could be wrong).
