Well, I saw this at a local theater tonight, and it was a good experience overall. There was a good crowd there, including lots of young faces that have never seen the film before (yes the manager/emcee always asks), and they seemed very into the film. The jump scare at the end STILL WORKS all these years later. The manager/emcee also talked about this film playing at this very theater for a preview show back in Nov 1976. He even brought old newspaper ads to show us. I also won two free tickets for answering the trivia question about who voiced the kid on the bike (answer: Betty Buckley).
However, the film itself looked like shit. It was the old master, but I don’t remember the 2008 MGM Blu-ray having this much print damage. Nary a second went by without white specs on the screen, and the first reel had a blue scratch that ran in the middle for a long period of time. This wasn’t (to my knowledge) a print, but a DCP, and the film still runs like this on cable too. The print also began with the Park Circus logo for some reason. I knew it wasn’t the Shout! Factory/Arrow Video transfer the moment the girls were playing volleyball in the opening shot. I had to appreciate this presentation as a sort of “grindhouse” look for the film, which was just unfortunate. I’m sure it made the film look “older” to the younger audience here, but I had to hope that the average audience wouldn’t really know. What a damn shame. When Scream Factory or Arrow does a new transfer for a film, does the official DCP usually not get updated like this? |

Think this may be one of the few King adaptations I don't recall ever seeing even despite owning it on dvd and blu. But I got tickets for this in the theater and am looking forward to seeing it. It would be cool to watch the entire IT miniseries in a theater even if it were just played directly from the blu.

This film was terrific. I'm kind of surprised I never saw it until now. And I even noticed some pop culture catch phrases were lifted from it: "get her done" and "they're all gonna laugh at you." It also seemed like Zapped! was a comedic spin on the same concept. The cinema curator spoiled the ending during the warmup speech, but otherwise the a/v was solid and looked to be about what the SF disc represents. A respectful crowd as well, which was nice for a cult screening.

![]() I remember when I saw the theatrical reissue of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind in 2017, and it was proceeded with a ten-minute making-of featurette that spoiled several key visual sequences toward the end of the movie! ![]() |

The titles that are going OOP are, apparently, low selling titles Shout chose not to renew. If anything, “Carrie” would definitely not be considered a low selling title.

It would be hard to imagine a classic horror staple like Carrie or The Thing being allowed to go OOP. New people discover those films every Halloween season.
