First one’s remastered BD is quite nice, can only imagine how the UHD must look. For $8 this is already one of my favorite UHD purchases. Just regret not jumping on II and III at that price.

Its this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wgM...w?usp=drivesdk. I made a mistake yesterday and the shot from yesterday was from the BD (switched the cases so it got me confused). Solved issue however by reducing brightness with 3 steps and contrast by alot - contrast was actually the problem and I didn't get all the huge changes I had to do compared from SDR settings to HDR settings: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tsN...w?usp=drivesdk. But as I said my set have never been calibrated for HDR but only SDR. And the calibrators were only semi pros so might be that only the 2p and 10p colors are calibrated properly with meter and PC software Calman IRC.

Do anyone have suggestions of HDR patterns that I could use to make the PQ more reliable in HDR mode as now I see the settigings I were suggested earlier (by subscription) were crappy in HDR mode (assumedly not for movie viewing but something else maby) ?

Edit: also I'd love to know does infact the 2p color calibration actually apply to HDR content if the calibration were made in SDR mode? Atleast I could see the 10p settings do not anymore follow?

Edit 2: just FYI all these questions are regarding Samsung KS8005 EU (KS7000 USA).

I'm basically using movie mode defaults, but I did "lower" gamma to -1, which actually raises gamma. Rtings measured their gamma out of the box as 2.15 I believe, and the standard is a little higher at 2.2 (plus some prefer 2.4 in a dark room, but I have a bias light).

I'm not super authority guy on the KS8000 or anything though, so advice will vary (and so would a pro-calibration, obviously). I did do a lot of research though and movie mode is pretty darn accurate out of the box according to most sources (though panels can vary a bit).

Blind bought the first 3 movies on 4k on Black Friday. Definitely not regretting my decision.

So I have the Panasonic UB820 and around 0:49 minute mark of First Blood I get a very brief veo break up while Troutman is talking to Rambo on the Radio. It happens against a minute after in the cave and then one more time later and then never again. I of course went back and sometimes I could get it to repeat and sometimes it played perfectly? Should I return it and get another disc? Would that help?

I've measured these out of the box in SDR and they are surprisingly accurate. The grayscale could be improved a bit (and once improved lead to needing to tweak the colors a bit) but overall, very good, including flesh tones. If I remember correctly you can use the old Samsung remotes to enable the pro day and night modes quite easily and they basically give you a few extra movie modes so you can have a few presets.

Yeah the KS8000 is very accurate out of the box. It was a factor in me purchasing it over some other sets. From what I've heard Samsungs out there today are less accurate, which is a shame. Every set has trade-offs though.

Watching the first movie now and it’s just gorgeous. As soon as I saw that opening shot I knew I was in for a treat. This transfer might even top The Deer Hunter, and that’s saying something.

Got First Blood to play without issue on my Oppo 203 ...got about 30 minutes into First Blood Part II and it completely froze up and was dead in the water after repeated attempts at troubleshooting. I’m sure I’m not alone in this experience. Anybody have a solution? Any response much appreciated and my apologies if this issue was discussed and resolved earlier in the thread.

Probably not the best method but I just take the disc out and breathe hot air on it and wipe it with my shirt. Works every time.

Exactly what time did you get the freeze? I made it just over 30 minutes into First Blood Part II last night before I had to call it a night, and I didn't have any issues.

Absolutely stunning disc, by the way. I might prefer the more grain heavy look of the original but the clarity in Part II really blew me away. These are amazing transfers.

Just finished it and I had no playback issues. I’m just really impressed with how these turned out. I think they hold up well compared to any other catalog titles I’ve seen. The explosions, the skies, the jungles, the smoke, the torture: it’s all beautiful.

Did anyone else notice missing details like gunshots? I've been a bit hesitant to mention this, because I haven't upgraded to 4K yet, but it's a problem I noticed on the Blu-rays that came with the German steelbook. It's particularly noticeable at the end of Rambo II when
[Show spoiler]Rambo shoots up the computers
. Watch the first couple of gun flashes.. they barely register. It's also noticeable in the helicopter attack scene... A lot of the Vietnamese and Russian soldiers guns don't fire properly for some reason, even though they did in past transfers.

On the whole, First Blood looks solid and for the most part, Rambo: First Blood Part II looks great, but I was disappointed with the way Rambo III looked. Maybe it's the pisstavision effect, but again a lot of the details look obscured in a way they weren't before, particularly those magnificent explosions. Someone on a previous page said they look like orange blobs... I couldn't agree more.

I didn't notice any missing gunshots but I'm not great at picking up that kind of thing. However, I just finished Rambo 3 and while I wouldn't go so far as to say that the explosions look like blobs, they do seem to lack the nuance of the excellent looking explosions from the first two movies.

That said, I was still really happy with how Rambo 3 looked. It was the least consistent of the three in terms of grain structure and color timing, which seemed to me to vary from shot to shot in certain sequences, but overall I thought it looked very sharp and textured. There's a lot of dust and/or dark sequences in this movie and the disc resolved those scenes very well. Off the top of my head I'd say that this ended up being the best trilogy collection I watched this year.

How good is the PQ of part II in comparison with First Blood?
