Anyways, it sure sucks having to settle for a 101. I wanted to get a 141 but they are just a too outrageously priced now and I know I had to jump on a 101 before they are all gone. It should be here on friday or monday. I can't wait, but I'm debating on if I should run the break in or not. I know a lot of you guys say that it doesn't matter, but I felt better about doing it for my 500M.
Sorry to hear that about your 500. But glad you can get a 101 in this market or the lack thereof.

Anyone know why when I watch Terminator Salvation on the 141 is says 24bit using the oppo. When I watch the same movie on the 500m is says 36bit using a ps3.

Scweb, let us know if you notice a difference in the black levels. Someone creditable told me the 500m had the 10g tech and the 101 didn't. But I know people also have said both have it.

They both use the same panel ( and both have some of the unreleased 10g tech). The 500m was considered the best because of the price and the 101 is considered better because of the longer warranty, extra HDMI inputs and the hand picked panel & parts. At least that what I've read.

I was just about ready to use KuroControl to unlock the ISF modes on the 500M, but it was gone before I could get around to it.

From all my tv viewing and experimenting, I found that Film Mode set to Standard produces the best picture for 1080i HD tv. I if set it to Advance mode while watching HD tv the image looks more digitized and processed, almost like watching a YouTube video on a computer monitor. But when watching bluray at 1080p/24 the Advance mode makes it's look amazing!

I contacted Pioneer about this a little over a month ago and they only recommend using Advance mode when watching bluray as it's designed for bluray's 1080p/24 source. They also recommend switching the bd player to 'Source Direct' and letting the Pio Kuro's processors do the processing.

I would only let a certified ISF professional technician touch that and adjust it. You should hire one to do a real ISF calibration, you'll see the improvement.

I always have had my Sony BDP-550 on source direct to, I was switching back and fourth from off to advanced when watching a BD last night and noticed a tint change in the different modes even skin tones slightly they all looked pretty natural but there was a difference I normaly had it off but i've been trying advanced when playing BD and I agree It looks the best but it was hard to tell. I think I might of wore my remote out changing it to all the different modes last night testing lol .

That would have been next on the list also.
The biggest problem I had with KuroControl and the 500M was making it think it was a Euro model.

Why would the 500m have it and not the Pro-101. The only difference between the 500m and Pro-101 is the Pro-101 has RS-232 for ISF cailbration. Your creditable source is that creditable.

It's really not that big of a deal. If they both have it great!

There are a couple of differences other than the fact that the 101 is ISF ready. I pointed the main ones out about 10 posts up.

101 different than 500M - longer warranty, 2 extra HDMI inputs, no internal speaker amp and the hand picked panel & parts (i.e., best of the best parts). Both can be ISF cal'ed, but the 500M needs a patch to unlock the ISF modes (or needs to be fooled into thinking its a Euro model). The 101 is also broken in at the factory for twice the amount of time as the 500M (100 hours vs 50 hours).

With that being said, the 500M is still a top notch display and I thoroughly enjoyed it for the year that I owned it.

Pioneer never released a 10th generation panel. Some people like calling the PRO-141FD, PRO-101FD, KRP-500M, and KRP-600M 10th generation when in reality they are 9th generation panels. Since they are Pioneers last 9th generation panels one could say they are 9.5G or something. So they really are 9th generation panels but since they are dedicated monitors that are 2.5 inches think with extra screen adjustment features they are the best plasmas that Pioneer assembled in the United States until the US factory stopped production in April of 2009.

All Blu-rays are 24 bit color. The OPPO BDP-83 and PS3 will upconvert DVD's and Blu-rays to 36 bit color if set in the menu. For example Terminator Salvation on the PRO-141FD connected to my OPPO BDP-83 is saying 36 bit deep color since I changed the menu option in the OPPO player to upconvert everything to deep color. Just change your OPPO to 36 bit deep color and that will solve the issue.

I'm pretty sure it's only the 500M and 101FD specifically that are sometimes referred to as '10G', as they are the only two that feature some of the 10G tech (which is not present in their 60" counterparts or the 101/111Fd). Black levels on these two supposedly edge out those on the other 9G models, though the difference is fairly small. That is just my understanding though. Many people on AVS more knowledgable than myself have claimed this, so I tend to believe it.

My house, even though it is in a nice area, was broken into and the 500M was one of the items that were taken. We have only been at the new house for 6 months, so the neighbors aren't quite familiar with our vehicles, but I would think someone would notice some people loading up a truck? (or van?) with 3 different TV's and some other electronic equipment.

I am sorry that happen to you, hopefully they will catch the people that committed the theft against you. I would recommended getting a alarm system for your house, of course some of the real good professionals can disable those. Also more and more consumers are getting video camera surveillance systems. I know people that have up to 32 indoor and outdoor cameras with night vision with 24 x 7 DVR recording. People think twice before breaking in when there are video cameras.
