I just checked the description on the ebay seller I bought from and he said it is the canadian version, I was too stupid to not see it, don't know what to do? you think I should keep it, I'm a big fan of Lord of the rings.

It's not like the Canadian release has a bunch of "eh" and "aboot" dubbed into the audio and a bunch of beavers, moose, and Royal Canadian Mounties CGI'd into the scenes. Don't know why you would bother getting rid of it one way or the other. The content on the discs is 100% identical to what has been released in the US.

Ok you are right, the movie and discs is what all matters, I shouldn't care for the packaging, excuse me I'm a new collector!

I was being a little bit extreme in presenting that logical argument. Of course, if it bothers you in any way, you could try to do something about it. However, seeing as the Ebay description was accurate, upon further inspection afterwards, you would only have the option to sell the set yourself somehow and begin hunting for the other set. It just seems like such a hassle if you are only really caring about the presentation.

Myself? I wanted the nicer packaging for both LOTR & Hobbit Extended Editions so that they could sort of match one another. So, I would have been able to avoid that particular Ebay listing knowing what to look for in the first place. Had I ordered it, and not done my due diligence to know which set was actually being offered, I would likely just suck it up and keep it.

So, I'm not saying that you shouldn't get rid of it. It's entirely your own preference. I'm just saying that the hassle may not be worth it if you really don't care about these sorts of things.

Actually I hope I was having the nice packaging but I don't care that much because I still got the movie itself, the problem I feel cheated cause I thought I got a great deal, but now after checking amazon Canada the ebay price is not that great actually amazon Canada is cheaper by 2$, but I learned my lesson.

The original full "wraparound" magnet box with black cases is definitely the one to own, if you care even a little bit about packaging. I think it is also a thicker box, and has a felt-lined inside. It can still be easily found on ebay... you just have to know the UPC, then confirm with the seller that it matches the listing. I just bought mine for the third time about 6 months ago. I just sold my steelbooks and went back to the original release.

Actually I think I will keep my set until the other one turn pretty cheap, I don't care for now but in my collection I really want the one you Have

If you're comparing the Blu-rays with DVDs from the UK, most of Europe or Australia/NZ, the time difference would be due to the speed-up on PAL-encoded DVDs. Could that be it?

nope, for example the US DVD run time for Fellowship is 208 minutes while the Blu ray is 228 minutes. Same with Two Towers and ROTK

They're the same length, one is just counting the extended fan credits and the other isn't.

I'm starting to buy fewer and fewer Blu-rays as time goes on. Just don't have the space anymore. But the one thing I'd totally rebuy in a heartbeat would be a 6-film extended boxset with nice packaging. I'm really hoping this comes sooner rather than later.

Other than the standard color improvements from UHD I think it would take a new master to make a big difference, and I'm not sure WB are going to do that any time soon because of the effects.
