Each time I look back on an old bit of writing I think, 'oh my what was I thinking'. hehe
i've got Pitch Black lined up for tonight
we're having a hardcore storm of hail, super strong wind, and plenty of fog so i'm waiting till it gets super dark and then me and the gf will huddle up and watch Pitch Black (first time seeing it, for either of us) so i'm already and and then we may watch a horror film to finish up the night / day.

See, that whats offensive. I support my opinion with elements of the film. You support your opinion by calling me confused.

5. Because its clear as day. Pain, Grief, Despair, Sex, Evil, Sin, Women(according to the film), Satan. These are MAJOR themes about religion that I personally caught on to very easily. Maybe its because im Baptist born and raised and have sort of an extensive view/knowledge of the bible.
Pain, grief, despair, sex, evil and women are all a part of everyday life too, not just in the bible. And the film never mentions sin or satan. You are connecting dots that arent on the screen.

Quote:
you've told me before that i didnt get a movie i didnt reply with "That could be looked as offensive" i took what you said and watched it from you point of view as ive done with others. No trying to be an a hole but maybe you shouldnt be so defensive.
Thats because what I said wasnt offensive. I said "Its not a thriller, its not a crime movie. Go back and watch it as a comedy next time and you'll probably enjoy it more".

Quote:
I think the movie is just displaying Trier's evil feelings which turn out to be a success in my eyes.
I think Triers message is clear. Women have been misunderstood, blamed, abused and punished for centuries and he believes it should stop. Like he says in the interview "We dont need anymore witch burnings, they need to stop".

I think a runtime and rating are worthy of mention. No? Especially when its not a well known mainstream movie.

This is my #2 animated movie.
His

Such an awesome movie all around, but you already knew that.

This oughta be good. Make sure your review is positive. Its a Diesel film and I know a Mod that likes to ban people for ragging on the Vin.

can't hide the facts!

i'll try and make this as quick and painless as possible (unlike the movie, which was a slow crushing, boring death, ZING!)

- terrible characters! (aside from the girl (at times) and Riddick) they were horrible. didn't care about any of them (this time including the girl and Riddick), and didn't care what happened.

- terrible acting (by most). laughably bad at times

- absolutely HORRID directing. sure it got a bit better as it went on (a bit, but not much) but this was craptastic to the nth degree! way too many cheeseball, awful directing decisions ("now, we're gonna show their eyes, but just there eyes! for like 3 minutes! and slowly go back and forth! back and forth! and then speed up till it all blurs together and looks like sh*t!") and half the time i couldn't tell what the fudge was going on. horrendous.

- NO ATMOSPHERE. how in the hell do you have a sci-fi movie with no atmosphere? i don't know, but somehow Pitch Black pulled it off. they should be awarded a prize for how stale and uninteresting the entire film is, let alone the complete lack of any atmosphere for a planet with three freaking suns

- this was made in 2000, eh? Pitch Black certainly feels like it. this has not aged well at all. the acting, writing, and characters all feel generic, cheesy and goofball bad. i can't remember the last time i watched a film and thought, "this is awful and definitely was made a long time ago".

- awful, absolutely vomit inducing CGI. as if i wasn't already bored, pissed off, and not scared, let's have a bunch of super CGI creatures flying, jumping and running around making stupid annoying noises

- how the creatures look part of the reason I Am Legend fell apart at the seams was because of the CGI and the dumb creatures. same here, although this movie wasn't any good (imo of course) to begin with! when you have invisible aliens that look like dumb @ss walking goofy hammerhead sharks, what the F is there to be afraid of?!

- of course all that equals nothing scary. and this was a sci-fi / horror right? bleh

- i think i laughed once during Pitch Black. sure, it's not a comedy, but all movies (general, except for super-dramas) usually find a place for some humor, but Pitch Black had one scene of humor:

[Show spoiler]when Riddick is leading everyone into the dark near the end, he says, "all clear" and then the flying flimmymabob flies out.

the curly haired who-cares-what's-his-name-is says "i thought you said it was all clear?"

riddick: "i said it LOOKS clear"

guy: "well what is it now?"

riddick: looks up slowly, looks back down slowly. "it looks clear"

but that was it!

the gf thought it was "super good" (nice review eh?...
[Show spoiler]
) but i could barely sit through this two hour debacle to be honest.

of course, i know the movie has fans and i don't mean to have my angry ranting come off as thinking i'm better than those who like it (we already know i am, duh
[Show spoiler]see what i did there? i pulled a Squid narcissistic comment
) i'm simply expressing my opinion on the film of course

of course, i'm not a big action fan, and it seems logical that my fascination with the Fast and Furious franchise comes from my subconscious man-love of Paul Walker (as Diesel pointed out above ) since i disliked this, but i disliked this more than i thought possible! i actually thought i would enjoy this somewhat (maybe like a 3/5, 3.5/5) but i didn't. at all

added to the "once is enough" collection, sadly, for all the wrong reasons.

and even though it sounds like i absolutely hated this, it definitely isn't a 0/5.
not by any stretch of the imagination. but it just didn't do anything for me

1.5/5

Rocky V

Ahh, Rocky V, the red headed step child of the Rocky series.

This one usually gets a bum rap. But I do enjoy it...but it is by far the worst of the series.

Let's start with the good shall we?

Stallone is back to the Rocky of Rocky and Rocky II. The way he plays the character from the speech pattern, to the mannerisms, to the way he thinks and speaks. It's just great for me, I love the Rocky character, and even though I still love him in Rocky III and IV, I miss the old Rocky when I watch those movies.

I really like the story of
[Show spoiler]Rocky being down and out, bringing up this new guy to live through and then him turning his back on Rocky
.

The returning cast (Shire and Young) are solid as usual, and Shire is great with Stallone as always imo.

The fight

Oh and Rocky's line in the bar. "Hey - You knocked him down, how's about you try knocking me down now?"

Now comes the bad.

The execution of that story just isn't that great. It's supported by lame/stupid/bad/whatever characters who I don't like. I would rather his pupil be different than a little brat. The promoter guy is just flat out annoying. He's good for a few laughs, sure, but he can be completely removed easily and make the film better already. So, keep the story, make the pupil a better character (
[Show spoiler]who you hate because of what he does to Rocky, not because of how annoying he is
) and either replace the promoter guy with a better, more serious/toned down character who is less prominent or remove him completely and the film will be much better.

It also doesn't help that the acting from everyone besides Shire, Young and Stallone is . Especially Tommy and Union. Everyone else in the film is either very, very bad or annoying. Even Dolph was better than these guys.

The music. Why change what works? Rap music all of a sudden? No. It just doesn't fit the character or the films. Bad idea.

I do like the film overall still, but it could have been so much better with a just some medium sized changes to the script and better actors (or actual actors) or performances for the other roles besides Rocky, Paulie and Adrian.

Rating - 3.5/5

Well at least you gave it a shot

Your part you laughed at is freaking hilarious

I thought the CGI wasn't anything insane, but was definitely strong, especially for 2000. And I loved the design of the creatures/the sound they make

You're not really supposed to like most of the characters

Did you at least when he said,
[Show spoiler]"DID NOT KNOW WHO HE WAS F***ING WITH!!" after he murdered that creature??

It's not really a scary movie...and its not meant to be imo (with the exception of a jump or two).

Really surprised you didn't like the Riddick character

Are you going to watch Chronicles (which is sci-fi/action) or did Pitch Black put you off on continuing?

There is a Director's Cut/Theatrical Cut though on the disc. Maybe that's why you were confused

I prefer the theatrical cut. It takes out the
[Show spoiler]mystical aspect of Riddick and leaves him as just a dude who can easily beat the crap out of people.

well that makes sense then

i did, but he didn't really stand out to me too much and wasn't too memorable probably because he didn't do or say much

idk. i've heard Chronicles is awful, so if i disliked Pitch Black i don't know if i should even bother
it's in the queue, but don't know if i'll get to it or not.
i'll read up on the story and see if it's interesting or piques my interest
