Well, with 3D on home video being in decline, I somehow doubt it is going to happen...

Wouldn't even need to be 3D BD, just a theatrical exhibition of the TCs in 3D would be enough. Should've started this year with FOTR for the 15th anniversary and just done them year-by-year. Not sure what it would need to gross to justify the cost but I imagine there would be at least some interest, especially if it was IMAX 3D.

What does that have to do with "3D on home video being in decline"?

Also, I go to my multiplex and I see the same amount of 3D options that I been having the last couple of years, converted or not. Although I almost always choose the 2D option, so you can see my bias.

How is 3D slowly fading at home when I see that EVERY theatrically released 3D movie is available to order on Blu-ray? (Yes, even Disney's since I'm in Europe).

Honestly I couldn't care less since I don't have any stock on the tech but all this 3D is dead stance that is going on for years (yes, 3D is dead since 2012 or so) without any concrete proof is becoming annoying.

What the sale numbers show is that 3D is selling the same % percentage for years, proofing it's surprisingly niche of a niche (BD) status. It's not selling more or less.

Plenty. Look at Disney. The majority of their 3D releases have been native 3D content. However, over the last year and a half the U.S. division has backed off 3D releases, i.e. Planes: Fire & Rescue, Frozen, and Big Hero 6. My point is that the other studios look closely at what Disney does as they have more R&D and money than any of them.

Additionally, look at Sony. If you want the 3D disc for The Angry Birds Movie you have to buy the UHD version. That's just BS IMHO.

The US are an exception for Disney and even so they are quite schizophrenic when it comes to 3D releases and their choices. Out of Pixar and Marvel, they release Zootopia in 3D and now Star Wars TFA was just announced. I don't think they have a clear strategy.

I actually think it's a great move and will boost UHD sales.

Between a 3D set and a UHD set, I will always choose the 3D set, although wanting to future-proof my collection. Just look at BvS sales with the 3D SKU selling more units than the UHD SKU.

These Sony combos are perfect and I will back them 100% with my wallet.

I don't think they have a clear strategy for 3D after that botched experience with Oz. 3D is a niche and so a hard sell as it is even with the 2D disc included and they wanted to sell the 3D disc on its own for the same price?

My point still stands. The number of theatrical 3D releases and home 3D releases of 3D content has been decreasing for 2 years now. You can argue why all you want, but you cannot deny that it has been happening. The fact is that the studios saw that the 3D revenue wasn't as big as they thought it was going to be, which is why there has been a serious push for UHD.

Also, many TV manufacturers have reduced or stopped producing 3D screens in favor of 4K.

Even if that website has the numbers correctly (and even so, the decrease of native 3D movies from 2015 to 2016 is huge going from 14 to 12).

IMHO, I prefer having just 10 or so movies with really good 3D in a year and not worrying about which is good enough to warrant my money then having 20 or 30 and having to go through them to find those really good 10 movies.

Saying this, I'm glad that only a limited number of movies is in 3D. Not all movies are appropriate for 3D.

No. Only Samsung dropped the feature this year and LG is using 3D as a premium.

Sony just announced their new TVs and all have 3D panels.

I actuall prefer the 3D as a premium. Crap and mediocre 3D panels only hurt the tech.

So, you agree 3D releases have dropped then? Good, we can move on now.

No, I did not agree.

Now that I could and took some time to check that website, I see that it misses at least 6 movies released in 2016. Not to mention that some that were released this year are mentioned in 2015, like Kung Fu Panda 3.

I don't see these in the 2016 list. All of them already released in 3D or confirmed to be released in 3D:

Assassin's Creed
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Rings
The Wild Life
Ratchet & Clank
Norm of the North

Further proving my point. The number of 3D released per year have been roughly the same. The fluctuation of the number of releases is the same as the fluctuation of the number of 2D movies released per year. I don't see here any trend of decreasing releases, unless your meant the number of releases from 2010 vs 2016.

Take this info as you want as I'm sure your point still stands.

I think that NOW we can move on.

Fewer and 'roughly the same' are not the same, but if you want to think it is and it helps you sleep at night then so be it.

Aren't there threads dedicated to 3D discussion? Could you move the conversation to one of those please?

I totally agree.

In other news, last year 2000 movies hit the theaters, this year the total is up to 1995. Movies are slowly dying.

/end.

Just to confirm, you're wanting to know if the Blu-ray cases will still fit inside the larger gold LOTR case if they have slipcovers on them?
