It's a nod to it being the Horn of Joramun. Supposedly, it shatters The Wall when blown. Mance used the idea and a giant horn as a veiled threat when he treated with Jon Snow after the initial battle at the Wall. These little things that were added in previous seasons for the story line seemed to have been all but excised.

Manderly is too colorful for the series anyway. If he was cast, he'd probably get the Daario treatment. No pies, insults, etc.

Thoughts on
[Show spoiler]Ramsay raping Sansa while Theon watches
? I've read several opinion pieces on it, wanted to ask the book readers.

I'll put mine in spoilers in case people haven't seen it yet...
[Show spoiler]I've seen several Twitter reactions and articles condemning the showrunners for adding this scene since it "wasn't in the books". In other words they've deemed it "unnecessary to the story" and some have labeled it "exploitative".

First, I don't see how it was an exploitation scene. Most of the shot focuses on an outsider's reaction, and that person is visibly shaken by the act.

Second, lol at those crying foul because it didn't happen in the books. Ok, you want book stuff? How about we show Jeyne getting raped repeatedly, physically tortured, effectively kept prisoner and being forced to perform sex acts on a dog?

Also, Sansa recalled her marriage to Tyrion. She may never marry or date a man that respects her the way Tyrion did, and yet she was vehemtly opposed to marrying him, even more so than Ramsay! It was an interesting callback to some flaws in Sansa's character.

I understand anyone who was uncofmrtable watching the scene. It's not a comfortable thing to watch, but that doesn't make it tasteless.

I'm with you. I was deeply disturbed by the scene, but then aren't we supposed to be deeply disturbed? But like you, I didn't find it exploitive or tasteless (I think those of us who've watched GoT from the beginning have a reasonable idea of what is or isn't tasteless).

My only other real comment about this episode is that it's clear we'll be getting Cersei's Walk of Shame before the season is out. I'm assuming it'll happen in episode 9.

Indeed, it is supposed to be incredibly disturbing.

Something that's really annoying me is that a lot of the so-called feminists/political columnists are attacking this as (not my words) "another attack on women by the showrunners that wasn't in the books".

First off, I find this endless politicizing of things in film and television to be beyond annoying. But what really irks me is the lack of acknowledgement that what occurs in the books is much, much worse. Yes, it's not Sansa in the books (and, for that reason, I understand the ire of book fans - even if I don't agree). But it is an innocent girl, nonetheless. And what Ramsey does to her is even more abhorrent. This is an instance of the showrunners showing restraint, if anything.

I didn't have a problem with the Sansa scene. At the very least it was interesting and it didn't destroy the integrity of any of the characters. I have far bigger complaints this season, like...

[Show spoiler]1. Jorah needs his face burnt or messed up in some way. This is basically essential to his character's arc (though it may happen in the coming episodes, so who knows).

2. Jaime invading Dorne completely contradicts his character. When I heard he was going to be in Dorne I didn't mind it because I thought he was going to travel there on a true diplomatic mission where he would have to treat with the Martells. It would have at the very least been more in character and further developed his character the way it is supposed to go (rather than a one-handed hero).

3. Brienne's story is pointless without a certain character. She has no conflict with her duty and I hate watching that actress on screen.

4. No Greyjoys.

5. How is Littlefinger traveling across Westeros like he has a jet?

6. Bronn should be dead at this point. This isn't a book specific complaint, but his character being kept alive at this point makes no sense considering he just broke into the water garden and punched Trystane Martell in the face! He isn't from a higher house like Jaime, so if he lives through this season I'll be shocked and appalled at how ridiculous this show can be.

I was hoping
[Show spoiler]Bronn was going to get the axe from Hotah.

The closing scene could have been a lot worse. Ramsay feeds girls to his dogs, usually.

It was still tastefully done compared to what happened to Daenerys on her wedding night to Khal Drogo.

Although I know it's just fictional characters, I have so much emotional investment in this show that it just broke my heart to see Sansa's innocence taken by that douchebag that everybody loves to hate Ramsay. It actually surprised me how much it bothered me. You guys must have hearts of stone (like her mama).

I'm still counting on someone like Jon or Benjen to wreak havoc and bloody revenge on everyone who hurt the Stark house. I'll be pissed if the books wrap up without the Starks giving the Boltons the Castamere treatment--I want the Dreadfort to be a ruin.

Season 6 casting info has already been leaked and it
includes Euron Greyjoy and Septon Meribald, which seem to confirm that the Riverlands and Greyjoy storylines haven't been cut and were just delayed to next season!

That makes me very happy that the Ironborn aren't just dropping off the face of the earth (something that seemed possible with the absence of Yara *cough*Asha*cough* since "The Laws of Gods and Men").

Wonder if that means that the death of Balon might happen by the end of this season, or if they'll save it for the beginning of next season.

The Septon Meribald and Randall Tarly castings are interesting. That would indicate the Riverlands - but with the way they've altered Brienne and Pod's story for the series, I'm very interested to see how that gets worked in.

I'm rather surprised that we're still getting a few strands from A Feast For Crows next year. With seven seasons as their aim, I expected Season 6 to be entirely new material.
