Are these the ones with new encode and DV so far from Sony?

1. Labyrinth
2. Ghostbusters 1
3. Ghostbusters 2
4. Kwai

These are already Dolby Vision on streaming but don't have the discs for the above to compare.

Will be buying only because of "including the original theatrical English subtitle font for texted instances".

And I bet that Sony is reading here.

Maybe they can do Ghostbusters 1&2 next...again?

And, well, of course I'm making an effort to get it. I've never seen the movie, but it's prolly good, and at least it's a very good excuse. Plus, it comes out in my birthday month, so I can get it.

Great and all that, but it needed more to tempt me. I'm very happy with the old 4K, so even though I'd like the better encode with DV, I'd need a few more extras to justify it to myself.

I'd love it if they could redo Lawrence of Arabia, and I'm not joking. Yes the UHD was split over two discs and already has Dobly but Sony took the chance to cram on SO many audio tracks that the video bitrate is on the low-ish side - effectively it's the equivalent bitrate of them putting the whole movie on a single UHD100 with a sole English 5.1 track. For some content then upwards of Lawrence's 50 Mb/s (average) is fine but the UHD transfer is so grainy - shockingly so for 65mm IMO - that the compression genuinely struggles at times, even though it's been slightly filtered of high frequency detail as it is.

Didn't they filter the opening to match the title composites better or so?
I remeber the 4K remastered BD to look a little better in the opening section.

Any chance they fix that?

Oh hell yes. These new Sony DV encodes have been VERY nice. And that steelbook is gorg.

Also wouldn't hate DV upgrades of Starship Troopers and Jumanji.

I own the original release w slip but will upgrade to get DV and new extras.

Hope Sony follows this trend and does the same for Leon and Fifth element.

I'd love a Third Encounters re-release with Dolby. That movie really needs it. Way too bright, like a lot of Sony UHDs of that era.

And if it's a steelbook (that is pretty) and has the bonus disc, count me in. I'd love to sell the ''gimmick' set that all it does is fill space I much need. :B I bought it just for the bonus disc.. that of course, later is removed in standard editions.

I thought the last version would be the last version I buy but I can’t resist. With the burnt in subs and original audio tracks plus new features, this may be the truly definitive version now.

I’ve had this on the original Blu, the mastered in 4K blu and the 4K UHD with the slipcover, which I might just keep in addition to picking this up.

I don’t mind Sony doing these reissues. But to be fair I think the original version looked great already, but it’s nice to know how high their standards are. Now I just wish WB had the same attitude, a 40th Anniversary Blade Runner with DV, and the original non-Atmos track, approved by Ridley Scott, is sorely needed.

Edit: not as high a priority but also needed is a version of Argo with the proper text shown in a 70s style font that fades into frame. For the last decade it’s just been subtitles that look jarringly bad, the only way I can watch it right is the streaming version on MoviesAnywhere (iTunes is unwatchable for this because the subtitles get oriented to the bottom of the screen where they’re supposed to placed in specific areas)

I love the reissues too, Sony keeps almost perfecting and upgrading discs and 4K pictures that were already good enough and making them technically better - but it annoys me to no end that they leave it for limited editions and not as standard reissues that should be available forever.

I can see why though. UHD is a niche format as it is, so offering an incremental upgrade to what is usually already a very good disc is only going to appeal to the complete nutters i.e. us forums saddos. Sony already press UHDs in limited amounts (for the US, anyway) so this just makes it official. But if people are willing to import versions with filthy foreign writing on then these limited editions can sometimes be found elsewhere for a while after.

Sony: So you want it split over three discs, Geoff? As you wish...
