Do you think its worth getting one now? Cause the reviews I've seen for this player make it seem like it's pretty much perfect

Here's me sounding like a broken record again. It's not perfect cause it doesn't have a damn digital display.

But other than that, it's a solid player for sure. With or without DV eventually.

I own it and I love it. I would be even happier if it were to be updated and include DV support, but even without it I am a big fan of it.

I've noted my preference for having a display on my players but I found that I didn't miss it at all on the Sony. Now if only Sony would do something about those stupendously clunky menus on their discs themselves.

Yeah, those menus are a damn disgrace.

Mine has manually restarted a few times while watching it lately. I looked and am on the current software version (0173). It's annoying but not really the main issue. I keep having to reload all of my Netflix and Prime user info when it reboots.
Update

I ended up speaking with Sony customer service about my issue. I was told to unplug my player for 2 minutes. Once the player was plugged back in I had to run the initialize setting. Since the player restarted it has kept all of my user information.

I was wondering, has the X1000 ES actually been released outside of the US? I don't think there has been a product from the ES line in Europe for years now.

No display is a gigantic positive for me. I hate the needless displays they put on many devices.

I finally got a small Atmos/DTS:X system setup and was testing it with the X800. Surprisingly the audio bounced off the ceiling does make a noticeable difference.

Perhaps it would have been better to have included an option with the ability to turn it off (like my Sony AV receivers) instead of just omitting it altogether.

I really do not understand why people complain about the UBP-X800 not having a front display. After all, the remote does have a DISPLAY button, you need only to press it to see a detailed display on screen if you feel you need to see it.

Because:

-Every VHS/DVD/CD/Blu-ray player I have ever owned has had a front display
-I think it's rather cheap looking that a player these days has no display, especially for a new format
-I want to be able to see the time in a dark room in an instance instead of having to grab the remote first and then look for the button
-Did I mention I find it real cheap looking without a display?

I don't understand how people are okay with it not having a display.

Seriously how hard is it to have a front display included on this player along with the ability to turn it off/on according to preferences?

Sony, if you're reading this: make sure there's a digital display on your next UHD player and you've got my money.

I don't get why people are ok with no front display on disc players, it's simply the manufacturer cutting costs, making it cheaper, you pay less and they are making more profit due to less costs in production. it's not some like genius idea they came up with to have no front display.

A player with no front display is still good but it should be there to let the viewer know the chapter, time, etc.

Displays are distracting to me personally. It doesn't really tell too much useful information and half time you can't read it from where you're sitting anyways. My 3d bluray player didn't have one either and I haven't missed it.

If the display is a deal breaker for you though, that's you're thing.

Maybe the player would have had a $349 list price instead of a $299 list price if a front display was offered. I would have liked to have seen 7.1 analog audio outputs, or at the very minimum 2.0 analog audio outputs which is required for multi zone A/V receivers for music listening in another room (Plus 2.0 analog stereo outputs is needed for older projectors and flat panels that use a DVI to HDMI adapter, some people buying this product do not own a native 4K Ultra HD display yet).

The Sony is the second best 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player on the market. If it had more features like 2 rear USB 3.0 jacks, 1Gbps Ethernet, 1GB internal storage for BD-LIVE, and other things exclusive to the OPPO UDP-203, then people would be complaining about the price.

The Sony UBP-X800 is a excellent value Blu-ray player that has most the features videophiles and audiophiles want like Blu-ray 3D support, SACD and DVD-Audio support.

A blu-ray player absolutely doesn't need a Gig Internet connection. Even for streaming apps and playing 4K at that. People like the warm and fuzzy feeling that it's there, but it's not doing anything beneficial really, even with other simultaneous, active steaming connections. Just like when people buy modems capable of crazy speeds even though no provider offers that type of speed. Except for Google Fiber and some other small competitors.

Exactly my point. Compare the amount of information displayed on the "display", with the amount of information displayed on the screen when you press the DISPLAY button. You don't even have to take your eyes off the screen. Much, much more convenient in my opinion. But, hey, that's just me.

This player with no front display has a better option for displaying all the stats.
