Yeah, it's really freakin boring. I was surprised too because I pretty much like all of Nolan's films. It's a rent, definitely not a blind buy.

Just got done watching this and thought that the overall presentation was stunning. Beautiful looking 4k and I actually really enjoyed the movie. Didn't find it the least bit boring as others have said. Pulled me in from the start and kept my attention throughout.
The only negatives I noticed was the occasional flicker or shimmer in some shots. This flicker was mostly in the earlier portion of the movie. It was relatively brief, but noticeable, compared to the rest of the transfer. It only lasted a couple seconds and was then gone. The shimmer seemed to be in the background on a couple of wave or water shots but I wasn't sure if that wasn't just wind moving spray across the water? But, again it was noticeable. Also there was some weird very light pinkish coloured macroblocking (?) in a couple of the daytime sky/cloud shots in the background. It wasn't severe and also seemed earlier on in the movie. After a couple of obvious shots I didn't see it anymore so I don't know what would have caused that. The sound was excellent and the score worked really well I thought. Glad I blind bought this. The reviews on the film were really mixed so I didn't know whether it was just going to be a case of great 4k but crap movie. I'm happy to say it's great in both respects for me. I liked the unconventional structuring of the movie with the POV approach to the story. Felt it was quite an experience once over. |

Demo-wise, its a disc to own. The movie itself is another story. Frankly, it’s a bit over-rated to me, like most of Nolan’s movie. My 2 cents...

Yep. I would have to agree. For me Dunkirk, while techincally superb, left me wanting more from the actual narrative. I haven't watched my 4K yet and have only seen the film once upon its initial release. I'll have to see if I still feel the same after looking at it again. Actually, for all the attention Nolan's films get, I have a largely "Just OK" feel for most of his library. Having said that though, I must say that Inception is one of my favorite films of all time, and as such, the best Nolan film yet IMHO. The Dark Knight is my second favorite Nolan film.

He's kinda like that nerdy kid in school who's really smart, and just goes on and on about things that aren't necessarily interesting from a holistic point of view. Then because the movie is also somewhat cliche, and somewhat propagandic, it can really start grating on the nerves! Especially when some of the concepts and approaches are so wonderfully unique, and the production values are off the charts. Still I've already paid full price for 4 of these 7 new hdr titles. Inception is my fave I think. Don't like the overlong and trite action sequences, but it's got a killer ending and a great overall concept. I wish Interstellar had ended right when the black hole bookshelf collapsed. Last edited by finalmattasy; 12-20-2017 at 11:04 PM. |

As an example, does yours clip at 1:03:39? On my disk it's the fourth or fifth mute. Last edited by finalmattasy; 12-20-2017 at 11:06 PM. |

Well just got back from BB and returned my first copy. Got home and checked the 4k discs and found some small scratches......this is just ridiculous:'(
I'll have to test out the movie again and hopefully it doesn't pause on any area. ![]() Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk |

I think so. I think Nolan has some incredible moments in all of his movies. With the sparse dialogue and various storylines, the editing in this one is really unique. For instance the long descent of Tom Hardy's plane interspersed with other scenes. The sight of modern day houses behind his plane. The climax scene, from right after the sailor lies to Cillian Murphy's character until the fuel/water ignites; this is one of the best things I've ever seen when set in the context of the whole movie. I just wish the sound worked properly on my disc.

As for PG true a lot of Spielbergs movies are rated age PG but that's because they're the kind of movies that don't need much violence gore swearing etc. And you reference to Nolan being like Spielberg falls apart for Dunkirk. Saving Private Ryan was rated age 15 had plenty of violence for a war movie, Dunkirk is rated age 12a has watered down violence for a war movie. Last edited by Kingchin; 12-21-2017 at 02:01 AM. |
