Just hold off on the dang announcement until you HAVE the freakin’ discs. Otherwise you’re just begging for issues.
Good point, I did recently mention to someone else about how Paramount have been struggling with volume recently and so with this set, the 1-6 set *and* the standalones all due on the same day then something might have to give.

Amazon does that all the time. It'll be available again. If it was all that limited, they'd be selling it for $200 or more.

Well I loved the ILM credits from Star Trek IV where they layered in the nebula over the starfield during the credits and ending with the Whale Probe.

Star Trek VI - ILM again with the starfield that ends with the CG Praxis explosion (stolen wholesale for Stargate).

SBS's CGI wine bottle in Generations going to a practical bottle at the very end shattering on an enlarged hull section model shot at ILM.

Didn't much care for the blurry text resolving sharply for First Contact or the boring establishing shots of the Ba'ku village in Insurrection.

Nope, just going by assumptions. I don't mean to suggest I know any of this for a fact. I really do hope we get a couple nice surprises in here with some fixes, especially considering what we're paying. I'm just keeping my expectations in check and trying to be realistic.

Honestly I would have liked to see the SLV get it's own UHD disc, especially for the price, simply because I'm not a big fan of branching discs. And since even with both the SLV and the theatrical sharing the same disc they're still only including it with the deluxe set, they might as well have made it an exclusive full disc just for the SLV. I'm not sure how they came to the decisions they did for this whole release.

For those of you saying it won’t sell out, it’s now out of stock on the UK store

EDIT: scrolled up lol.

Nobody can say for sure if it’ll be back in stock, and I would believe Dave more than the people here.

Arguably they should have just left it alone if that was the best they could manage. But ultimately, it’s only a few seconds.

The V’Ger shot is a fine idea, and improves that whole sequence. It’s easy to imagine that a wide shot like that was intended to be done in 1979. Don’t forget, the 2002 version of the DE was a bit rushed and underfunded, so the fact that this shot wasn’t featured in that release doesn’t necessarily tell us anything about Wise’s intentions. The idea behind this new DE is not just to recreate the 2002 DE in higher rez, but to better and more fully realize their intentions than they were able to in 2002. However I will say that the wide shot would have been less jarring if it had been designed to look more like what could have been achieved with a model in 1979, and less like a CGI creation.

But it was in the "2001" Director's Edition.

Oh, I misread. Yeah you’re right, it’s almost certainly going to keep the bad shots in the theatrical* cut.

Your point is fine. I just wanted to point out that the shot was in the 2001 edition. I think it would look better if it was closer too that. The new one looks like it’s rolling down the Vegas strip. I’m interested to see how they chose that particular change

You know that South Park where the boys watch the Indiana Jones "Special Edition" trailer and ewoks show up running around? That's what it felt like with those neon vivid colors and ultra-sharp CG model. The 2001 model actually looks like it might belong in the movie.

There's another "box set" Paramount should have given us:

ST:TMP D.C. 4K UHD + ST:V 4K and ST:VI 4K at a reasonable cost so that I do not have to purchase them all separately.

The "finished" SLV is a curiosity but I can live without it. I'm not a fan of the elaborate packaging just to see that one cut.

I am also curious about a better looking version of the 4K theatrical release but I'm doubtful that has been created.

Personally I would have kept V'ger more like the one made for the 2001 DE

Bill Hunt is reporting (I know) that among the features on the bonus disc for Star Trek the motion picture is two of the documentaries from the 50th anniversary release. One is about Reviving Star Trek in the 70s and the other is the making of Star Trek the motion picture.
The third documentary is definitely going to be on the Wrath of Khan since it was already included in the previous set.
That leaves two remaining documentaries one concerning Star Trek 3, 4 and 5 and the other the wrap-up that focuses on Star Trek 6.
The official announcement did not include this information and I'm wondering if it's an oversight on their part or if Bill Hunt has made an error. But if they failed to mention that the first two documentaries were attached to Star Trek the motion picture bonus disc I wonder if they also made the same mistake with the final two documentaries one of which could be added to Star Trek 5 and the other added to Star Trek 6. I don't know if we're going to get any official clarification before the discs are actually released but for the people who are interested in this 5- part documentary-- this is possible good news.

Yeah, the problem for me isn't the idea of a wide shot of V'ger. It's how it looks in that shot. The visuals in the new Star Trek shows like Discovery and Strange New Worlds look stunning. Easily feature film quality effects. So to see that they did such amateurish work for just a handful of shots like the "fixed" space dock shot, the lounge background, the shuttle stopping in mid-flight, and this wide shot, not to mention the cheesy opening titles, is embarrassing and depressing. Why even do this if you can't bother to give the project the funds and talent needed to do it properly.
