Much better than the ‘mock-up’ although the 3D next to the movie title still looks a little cheesy. In reality though, I don’t care if it comes in a brown bag, all I care about is that delicious 3D disc!

It is very interesting the 2D disc will apparently be region free and only the 3D will be locked. Wonder if there’s any particular reason, like some people speculated Sony plans to release a region A 3D version (which I doubt) or if it’s something else, or even a weird explanation like it was a mistake/overlooked in the original disc master and Sony doesn’t want to spend the money to fix it because it’s a niche release on another label. Weird either way.

Is the standard AU release not region-free already? The NA one seems to be locked, the UK disc isn't and has the same language options, so presumably there's a 'domestic' and 'international' disc?

Too bad the subtitles present in the 2D blu-ray aren't present in the 3D disc. This new normal is weird. :/

I went to the website THE NUMBERS and they have this listed there for upcoming releases:

September 2 Spider-Man: No Way Home — The More Fun Stuff Version (Wide) Sony Pictures $804,617,772

Does anyone here know what is up with that, and could it possibly be that right after that they will release a special-3D BLURAY region A?...am I thinking too much into this?

It’s an extended cut they are releasing theatrically. I’m sure it’ll make its way to disc but I very much doubt they would release a 3D disc alongside it, especially because they won’t be converting the extended cut to 3D.

It's being released to commemorate the 60 years of the spider-man character and will bring extended scenes and some new ones.

It may work on this one though since Sony is actually putting this one out and like you said it's through RSM which may not be as complex as the other bigger manufacturer's. Hoping it works since I have a Panasonic this trick still works on currently. Tested it the other day to make sure.

Yeah doesn't make much sense that they would lock the 3D and not the 2D, when one of the purposes of locking discs is so that people can't buy cheaper in another region and have to buy in their own. Maybe they are watching the sales on this to see if they should release it also in Korea/HK/or Japan as well but for a higher price near the end of the year. My money would be on an exclusive Korean version if anything. Since I can't play region B, I'll just wait and see then. Maybe us Region A people will get lucky with an Asian release of this!

I'm also wondering if RSM actually confirmed that the 3D is region B locked with Sony...or if they just saw this art and assumed. What if the artwork is wrong and they never directly spoke with Sony?

Not that I put a lot more stock in the Sony email than I do cover pictures, but RSM posted the information they received from directly from Sony several weeks ago,

OTOH, it would be far from the first time that an advance Press Release and the back cover would be incorrect and the disc turned out Region Free once it's checked.

From information in various threads, the only confirmed Region Locked 2D was the NA version. Several of the Region B releases were confirmed A/B/C though I'm not sure if the AUS disc specifically was

I'll test out Ratatouille when I get it, but still waiting on it from overseas.
Ratatouille UK 2d AND 3d DIDN'T work on my 820 when I tested it a couple weeks ago. I think I had one other B- locked Disney's which also wouldn't work. The one locked Sony release I found did work

See this post from @Tober27 posted to this thread on 5/15/22. I received the email from RSM back then.

I try to imagine what I would do if Avatar 2 (my most anticipated 3D home release in years) was region A locked. *Shudder*

Luckily I live in the UK for NWH region B locked isn't a problem for me.

Not much imagination needed to solve that problem. I solved it back when all the excellent Region A locked titles (all with far better 3D than Spider-Man: No Way Home) started coming out.

What should be making you shudder is the possibility that the disc won't play on your player, because that is an issue with RSM discs.

I couldn't play Jumanji: The Next Level in one of my players. I went through three copies to establish that it wasn't just a duff disc. Others also had issues with that title. Dolittle wouldn't play for some people. It will be the same with Spider-Man: No Way Home, I am sure of it. Not a problem if you have a few different players but if you only have one, good luck!

Are the specs listed on these RSM releases accurate to what's on the disc? cause some studios just list a part of the languages and call it a day.

Seems a bit weird that it's English only because Jumanji had all the typical subtitles you'd find on a Sony EU disc (odds are it was probably made by Sony with the intention of releasing it in Europe, but cancelled it).

I'll take my chances. It's either this or nothing.

Even if you are unlucky enough to have a player the disc doesn't like, you can always buy a new player. It would be a good excuse to go region free in fact...

No. It's been like this for all of their releases. The artwork will be added closer to August 10 once it's actually available to order on Amazon.
