I did find an audience review complaining about her size, race and that she wasn't disabled. I can't imagine a professional reviewer complaining that Vikander doesn't have large enough polygons!

Not exactly the same thing, but this particular review did strike me as rather sexist. Imagine if Lara was a man. Could you see him referring to an oscar winner as a "silly man"? Could you imagine him writing a review calling Harrison Ford a silly man clambering through jungles? I just have a hard time believing this reviewer would refer to a man in the same role as "silly".

I never want to see Shia Laboof's silly ass swinging through the jungle with CGI monkeys again.

To be fair, when he says silly woman, he's not referring specifically to Vikander there, but rather the Lara Croft character herself. I guess it could be interpreted as being sexist, but I don't think that was the intent there. His "review" was shit nonetheless though, and should not be on RT. It's like a few sentences, and barely delves into anything whatsoever.

As I mentioned earlier, Roger Ebert gave a lot of 2.5/4 star reviews in his career, and on the TV show those were always thumbs down reviews.

The critic decides if its rotten or fresh. There are fresh 2.5/4 reviews and rotten 2.5/4 reviews.

I know he's not referring to Vikander specifically as silly. I just think it's sexist referring to a woman fighting through the jungle as silly because I have a hard time believing the same word would be used in the context of a male action hero.

It's like the word "bossy". Sure, a man can be bossy but when he is, he's usually referred to as stern, tough, or even a hard-ass. When a woman acts the same way, she's bossy or maybe even a *****.

A male action hero might make foolish choices in his adventures, but its heroic. Even if he's called out for being foolish he's not going to be called silly.

Anyway, that review just stuck out to me. I don't think it's a conscious intent on behalf of the reviewer, just some subconscious sexism that means he might've taken the character more seriously (and thus reviewed it better) had the character been played by a man. No idea if the movie is good or bad though I suspect I'll like it enough.

Maybe. I mean Why rate a movie 2.5/4 But then decide to give it a rotten score. It honestly does not make sense. Why not rate it below a 2 if you are giving it a rotten score anyway. A 2.5/4 is above average so that should be a fresh score like some others also do there.
