Yeah, 16:9 still doesn't zoom in enough to get rid of the lines. 14:9 would probably do it, but my current tv doesn't have that option.

yes, the Japanese dvd was CROPPED, but should I have gone against what Tsukamoto gave me? He did the process of making the new transfer and checked it many times before giving it to me, so I can only assume that this is what he wanted, or else he would have told me to crop it... I don't feel that I should have done anything against what he gave me...

Blu-ray capture (tv photo).

Hi Adam,

I decided to delay our review and get the market version to be absolutely certain that what is on the screener is also on it. It is. A couple of comments.

1. First, thank you for getting involved with this project. It is quite obvious -- and this is something that Mr. Tsukamoto also confirms in the interview -- that without you more than likely there would not have been a Blu-ray release of A Snake of June. This is my favorite Tsukamoto film so I personally need to thank you here.

2. There is nothing wrong with the encoding. Unfortunately, this is how the film was edited and transferred.

3. It is unfortunate because the jumps/cuts should have been addressed during the editing process -- and probably a long time ago. I have not seen the blue version theatrically, but I would be incredibly surprised if this is how the film was screened in Venice or elsewhere.

Perhaps it would have been a good idea to have someone assist Mr. Tsukamoto during the remastering process because frankly the current presentation is rather underwhelming. Maybe -- almost certainly -- money was an issue, but the end result is questionable.

In any event, Adam, I know that you operate with limited funds and I know that you put your heart and soul into these releases. So, thank you for bring the film to Blu-ray. But I have to say that I wanted to like this release a lot more.

Have a great week.

Looking forward to getting my copy of A Snake of June. Never seen the film but it looks terrific. It's a shame about the way it was edited but if nothing else, I doubt it's as distracting as the Yonosuke encoding error which coats the whole film in electronic noise among other issues (you can clearly see the transfer is really nice under these encoding issues which Adam wasn't aware of). It is what it is and if not for you, Adam, we would be stuck with it on DVD without these great new special features.

It seems to be some glue residue from the original negative but to be honest when I watched this years ago I presumed it was an artistic choice to add a feeling of cctv footage to enhance the voyeuristic mood of the film.
Whichever reason is true I found it added to the experience for me so I'm happy to have it on my version.

Any chance of adding a slipcover for Kotoko? You guys could have it is an optional extra with the next Tsukamoto release..

Maybe the black and white version wouldnt have that problem, but then again it would be the black and white version.
Tetsuo has the same problem. I think Tsukamoto cut the negatives and spliced them with Scotch tape himself.

Got Snake of June on the way from amazon, haven't seen it since it came out at the cinema, a surprisingly (fairly) well attented performance at the rat infested Trocadero. Can't for the life of me remember if it was tinted or the aspect ratio it played in (always suspicious of people who say things looked just like they did in the cinema after several years!).

A bit late to the party, but I've recently got the Sion Sono Blu Rays which I'm really enjoying. Better late than never.

People usually keep this site up to date. Just click on Third Window Films, then view by release date.

It was probably low for an hour or so, but when they got a lot of orders they probably bumped it up to 16 again.

yeah, it seemed to have been a half-day only price or something like that. I have no idea what Amazon do with their pricing, so hopefully some of you were lucky enough to get it at that price...

The first is my favourite, but rarely does my opinion seem to tally with the majority as far as these cover votes have been concerned in the past.

Great to see my order of Ruined Heart reduced to just £12.
