Oh, I.see the distinction now, thanks for clarifying.

I would say many of the close-ups of Sly and Trautman looked waxy, especially Sly's pores. It isn't smeary but I didn't think it looked that natural. Modern DNR tools are better than those of yesteryear but it was still bothersome. For example, the ending sequences were bright and probably shot on slow stock yet there was still a fine dusting of grain, whereas it was almost never there during the rest of the film.

Weird, can't say I've ever had the screen door effect. With 4k pixels it should be hard to see such a thing, even at that distance.

I thought at the time that those two newly added (and newly banned) accounts were rather similar

Has anyone mentioned the horrible subtitles on First Blood?

I turned them on around the reporter's walking video segment.

Whoever 'transcribed' this movie should never work again.

Measured 40 degree FOV, which for my TV is around five and a half feet.

Yeah they’re all terrible. Usually subs will paraphrase what’s actually being said, but these ones rewrite the script!

It's like some horrible Telephone Game, where everything gets butchered.

These are some of the worst subtitles I've ever seen, not even remotely accurate

I saw Rambo III yesterday for the first time. Man, did I enjoy this flick. I had a big smile on my face like I was a teenager again. It is predictable, but enjoyable. I do enjoy the relationship between Rambo and Trautman as his commander is the only person he trusts. He's his only family and he'd go through hell to keep him safe. The score is awesome and I really liked the prison break sequences where I was urging John to keep going and get his friend out.

I liked the Afghans too, and the cinematography was quite good with lots of wide shots of the mountains.

The picture was hit and miss. Strangely, the opening scenes in Thailand where John is in front of the monastary that I saw screenshots of here that were very grain heavy were not that way on my TV, even when I walked right up to it and was just a few feet away. In those scenes there is grain but it's electronic looking and very light. When the movie moves to the desert many of the bright outdoors scenes had a good layer of natural looking grain that was very welcomed, like the many tracking shots of helicopters. Grain was nonexistant during the nighttime scenes, however. Shots would alternate between grain and no grain in the same scene. I thought the HDR was applied a bit better here than in the previous films, adding some dynamic range especially in the prison break with characters in shadow and the bright sparks from gunfire. I can't say I noticed any real ruddy color timing in this movie unlike the first two, especially Part II. I suspect the desert setting hides a lot of yellow tint when it's present.

The sound was better too. The score had a good dynamic range and soundstage. LFE was inconsistent- some gunfire from big mounted machine guns were quiet, others were very loud. LFE was a bit one note and tubby without the firmness of modern mixes or better 5.1 remixes like Red Dawn on BD. I really enjoyed the score and it pumped me up. I wanted John to succeed and the music helped me get excited for him while he did it.

It's a predictable, rah-rah America and "beat up the Soviets" type movie. It's basically a Rambo version of Rocky IV. But damn if I didn't love it and care for John, Trautman, and the Afghans. I really appreciate that they did humanize them and give them important roles as fellow soldiers and rescuers instead of just cannon fodder and/or traitors. Knowing what we know now about 9/11 sometimes it's hard to feel bad for the Mujahideen, but not all Afghans are bad people and at that time they were definitely under attack by the Soviets.

So while the video could have been better, it was an improvement over the last two and most importantly was a fun movie.

Watch the Russian fort infiltration scene in Rambo 3 with the subs turned on and you get the blah-blah from the Russian soldiers shooting the shit in the background audio, as Rambo places his charges. I remember that from the Blu-Ray releases back in the day.

I just had First Blood in and I saw plenty of grain. I was expecting less, but being an older movie I should have known.

Watched the first one. Absolutely beautiful image. Very fine and steady grain throughout and a nice fimic look. Never looked better honestly. Only complain are the blacks in night shots which almost turn grey but atleast there is no disturbing noise or black crush created from it. Very steady image even there. Can't wait to see what the daytime explosions and jungle look like in part 2.
Very pleased with this one. 4K is made for these catalog titles.

WOW! watched First Blood yesterday and i thought the image quality was fantastic, it was a huge upgrade and like the previous post my only gripe was some of the night shots that looked a little murky but not at all distracting.

Just finished First blood part II and HOLY Sh*t it is absolutely stunning. I cannot wait to watch Rambo III

First Blood looked horrible to me I don't know what happened (unless I got a bad copy), but Rambo: First Blood II is a significant improvement as in night and day.

I got through about half of First Blood last night. Had repeated pixelation and audio dropout issues - going to swap it out for another. On any rate, what I saw was good. My only complaint is the compression is not always the greatest. Curiously enough, I looked at a few scenes of the accompanying remastered BD and it was very impressive. For those who cry themselves to sleep at night about a lack of a remastered BD with a UHD BD, here is your chance for a very good one.

You're going to swap the 4K disc and if so, with what?
