I think they all work well, and all offer their own unique touch. Especially in the Star Wars saga. For six films, so far, I have been pretty wowed by what the creative teams have done. Its been a brilliant blend in my opinion.
Six times now I've enjoyed being transported to a long time ago...in a galaxy far, far away.
And I'm looking forward the seventh, eigth and ninth!
They're going to twelve. Not including the stand alone films.

Seriously.

Actually, he had about 11 years; "Jedi" was released in '83, and he started writing "Phantom Menace" on November 1, 1994.

George Lucas to be Honored with a Disney Legend Award at D23 Expo

This year's D23 Expo is going to be a huge event for Star Wars fans. Not only will The Force Awakens and Battlefront have huge presences, but Star Wars creator George Lucas will honored as well! Lucas will be honored with a Disney Legend Award, along with six other Disney Legends.

The award will given out at a presentation on the morning of Friday August 14th at 10:00am PST hosted by Disney CEO Bob Iger. About the award, Iger said,

"The Disney Legend Award is our highest honor, and we are incredibly proud to recognize these eight talented individuals who have contributed so much to the world of entertainment and the Disney legacy."

GEORGE LUCAS, whose Star Wars films made him one of the most successful filmmakers of all time, is also a longtime Disney fan who has left an indelible impression on Disney parks. His first project with Disney was Captain EO, the 1986 3-D spectacular starring Michael Jackson and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Star Tours and Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland, as well as Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Indiana Jones et le Temple du Péril in Disneyland Paris, and two blockbuster Indiana Jones Adventure attractions at Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea round out Lucas’ timeless work in conjunction with Disney.

He told Brian De Palma that Star Wars was "a Disney film" after the first rough cut screening. Spielberg and Lucas are giant Walt Disney fans, they grew up with his TV show and films. Lucas has worked with the Disney company since the 80's. Mr. Lucas still calls Pixar "his" company.

Oh, yeah. Big time. You have the crowd that's been defending the Prequels since 1999 and they're insecure that the new movie is going to blow people away and cause even more Prequel/Lucas criticism. Then there's the crowd that adores George Lucas and can't come to terms with the fact that he retired and sold the company to the Evil Disney company. And then you have the Star Trek fans who despise J. J. Abrams with every fiber of their being. These three groups have been bashing the hell out of the upcoming project since it was announced.

The second group in particular cracks me up, they're the folks who dismiss the new movies as 'fan fiction' and decree that they're not touching anything SW related which didn't come from the hand of the almighty creator himself. SW has created some truly weird fandom, I don't think there's ever been anything quite like it.

CrazyBlue, I'm probably going to agree with you about the new haters. There will be people out there who will find new reasons to ***** about Episode VII.

I can identify with these good folks, because after I saw Empire of the Sun when I was 17, I thought Steven Spielberg walked on water. When Hook was announced, and all through the build up through the release, I was certain it was going to be a fantastic movie. I hauled about 20 people to go see it opening night. And then I spent the next several weeks actively trying to convince myself it wasn't, in fact, terrible and a huge let down. To this day, on the very rare occasion I come across it, I still try to like it and while I find some good moments, the truth is what it is. It's a misfire. Spielberg himself says it's the least favorite of all of his movies.

I learned a good lesson, though. Never again did I let myself think, "This movie IS going to be great!" Today, when something is announced, I think, "This movie COULD be great, or good." I just don't jump head first into the fandom. I wait and see and judge the movie on its own terms.

SW7 could be good. Could be great. Or it could be Hook. We'll see.

Agreed, well probably because of his involvement in the theme parks. Or maybe George Lucas is no longer canon, and falls into the "Legends" category.

Well, I love all 6 films but I'm also looking forward to The Force Awakens, I notice similar thinking to other members who loves all the films too at least in this thread. There are some worries but I was also worried while waiting for each of the prequels so that's normal.

The second and third groups are there of course, but I don't see them much here.

Not saying I agree with those people but Georgie did say the saga was over with 6, named the BD set "the complete saga" and never shut up about it being one complete story about Anakin and blah blah blah. So I don't blame people for seeing more films as a sort of bastardizing cash-grab in some sense.

Though I personally am fine with it because Lucas went off the rails and I want more Star Wars like I grew up with.

P.S. I had a commentary on for Ep. 2 the other day and Georgie also definitely says in it that "all the stormtroopers in the original movies were clones" so haaaaaaaaaaaa the weird racists were kind of right.

Anyway I'm gonna go now before I play devil's advocate to the point of suspension.

You do know that after the subtitle of episode IV was added back in the rerelease of 78, Lucas said it was a nine part story...or that Disney/Lucasfilm have consulted him about the storyline for the next three episodes...

Well, I'm glad to be in Group #4 (or is it Force?). I've enjoyed all six films in the series since childhood, and while I have certain opinions, I don't personally attack those who feel differently. I'm looking forward to this new one, plus "Rogue One" later down the road.
