Love his performances as Jason King. Watched Department S for the first time when the individual blu-ray volumes were released by Network, and I generally did enjoy the show, but it was Wyngarde’s King that made it watchable. Without him, it probably wouldn’t have been worth it, and pretty much every scene he’s in is great to watch, whether it was charming the ladies, figuring out the complex/absurd plots all by himself (whilst drinking his favourite tipple), getting into the occasional fight with some goons, or just the sight of him parading around in his amazing line-up of flamboyant suits (many of which actually look pretty stylish tbh).
I saw the spin-off show years ago on dvd and enjoyed it immensely. Yes, it’s totally dated, but it’s escapist, globe-trotting fun, and I hope it comes out on blu-ray eventually so I can enjoy the rest of his King performances in high def.

I have the Flash Gordon movie on Blu-ray at home. I didn't know that he was in it until I found out about his death from earlier today. I will watch the movie whenever I will have the time. I don't know Wyngarde's career including his role in Jason King at all. Living until you're 90 is a great age and it sounds like he had lived through a very tough career for all of his life because of suffering homophobia. May he R.I.P.

RIP Cyril Goldbert, a remarkable personality who was never fully appreciated as an actor. His only film lead was the excellent Night Of The Eagle. He was also a very good Number Two in The Prisoner episode Checkmate.

Here's the infamous track Rape (retitled so Youtube's sensibilities aren't offended)

Peter Wyngarde was the definition of the word suave. They don't make 'em like that anymore!

Golden Throats - Peter Wyngarde - YouTube
As fun as that track is my favourite on that LP will always be this:

Not safe for work and the song itself starts around 1 minute 30 seconds into the video. I'm sure if I'd heard the album in the late 80's I'd have no doubt attempted to talk my school punk band to covering it.

According to Wyngarde, RCA intended the album as a tax loss and were so horrified when the initial pressing sold out in three days refused to press any more copies.

https://peterwyngarde.wordpress.com/...uisitive-head/

Quote:
“It sold out in next to no time,” PETER explains, with a sardonic smile. “But RCA point-blankly refused to press any more. I was fuming, as I’d been given a three-album contract with the company, who promised to release one LP every 12 months. The excuse was that production was being moved from Middlesex, I think, to Hollywood in Gloucestershire. They told me that everything would have to go on the backburner, but I just believe that they got cold feet.

“I’d known the Valverde Brothers for a while, and had written some lyrics for them which they used on tour. They’d been on at me for years to collaborate with them, but I hadn’t really taken it seriously. When RCA came up with an offer, they told me I could do whatever I liked – that’s what really appealed to me. I saw the record as an entertainment in its own right; to be enjoyed tongue-in-cheek.

“I think they (RCA) expected eight or nine Sinatra cover-versions, but we wanted to do something new. The album’s success really took them by surprise. They were mired in a scenario similar to ‘The Producers’, were the only really successful act they had on their books at the time was Elvis Presley, and the plan was that my record would go down as a tax loss. It rocked them on their heels when the opposite happened and it became a tax gain!"

Utterly random and underwhelming Winter Sale now on for next 7 days:

http://networkonair.com/144-winter-sale

Amused and very slightly saddened that they're still trying to off load those botched OOP Freemantle blu-rays of The World At War rather than given them up as a bad lot and send them to landfill.

As I already own the stand alone Terrahawks releases that DVD was the one thing that stood out to me.

Wolcott looks interesting.

"Displaying the same rough, streetwise vibe as The Sweeney, Wolcott stars the charismatic George William Harris as a tough, loner detective with a gift for rubbing people up the wrong way."

Starring Katanga from 'Lost Ark'

Also stars Chris Ellison (DI Burnside from The Bill), Warren Clarke, and Rik Mayall

Here's a review FYI:

Morty- One of my fav characters in Layer Cake so will get this TV series. Thanks for notifying here.

Wasn't aware that the WW2 documentary had two versions but glad I checked here and noticed the deal one isn't the OAR one.

I enjoyed Wolcott, not sure about rewatch value though, but by tackling racial issues from the perspective of a black officer adds interest and differentiates it from other cop shows of the time. Rough and streetwise is a good way to sum it all up, though thankfully Wolcott himself is far from a caricature.

While the programme itself has a good pedigree the quality of this dvd is appalling. It's back to the old Network authoring and encoding problems that have plagued many of their dvd (but not Bluray) releases for over a decade.
Pixellation, noise and more. It really is a painful watch. 16mm seems to give Network real problems and this is as bad as Flambards, Follyfoot and other similar shows.
Having recently purchased The Brothers from Simply Media I'm so glad that was one BBC show Network didn't get hold of. Put a disc of The Brothers on and you see how good a dvd can be.
It's so disappointing because we have literally no alternative so I shall keep my set of The Frighteners anyway.

At last a new British Film addition coming and I think the first Norman Wisdom UK blu

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/There...lu-ray/199380/

http://networkonair.com/coming-soon/...d-man-blu-ray-

Unseen for over fifty years, this exceptionally rare feature sees comedy legend Norman Wisdom at his best playing a naïve explosives expert who finds himself involved with a criminal gang after uncovering nefarious dealings by a prominent industrialist!

Hailed as one of Wisdom's finest films, it was one of two features he made independently, and marked a departure from his more familiar and endlessly popular comic creation, 'the Gump'. Co-starring Alfred Marks and Susannah York, There Was a Crooked Man was directed by the BAFTA-nominated Stuart Burge.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

[] Original promotional PDFs
[] Booklet by Norman Wisdom expert Richard Dacre

As Network have a deal with ITV I really hoped the 12 classic Wisdom movies that ITV released on dvd like Trouble In Store , On the Beat etc would get the Bluray treatment from either Network or ITV themselves.
Disappointing that they are still unavailable.
After seeing The Girl On the Boat many years ago and finding it very disappointing I've stayed away from all but the usual Wisdom style movies so I won't be going for this one.

Also noticed Network are releasing Demme's A Master House and the underrated indie film Terri, but both are on DVD only. A shame they're not even considering a Blu-ray release for things like that.

I would like to see a DVD release of Rutland Weekend Television. I received copies of it years ago, but an official release would be most welcome. Apparently Mr Idle has no interest in having the series released.

The series seems to be on YouTube now. A little too much Innes for me, but I enjoyed the series.
