It's probably pointless to ask considering that's Universal we're talking about, but the regular BD that's included is the same old 2011 transfer, right?

I believe at this point unless a studio issues a press release specifically stating a Remastered BD is being issued (see Sony's Dark Crystal, Jumanji) then don't expect one.

Probably should be a sticky at this point.

Except there have been cases where the bundled BD has a new encode or remaster despite never being advertised. Granted, not from Universal, but still...

I am for sure buying these. I love these movies and don't really care about having an all in one box set. The 4k releases have immersive audio and will, to at least some extent have better picture quality.

Right now, my main set up is not 4k. It is a projector. My plan is to play the 4k discs scaled to 1080. I can't imagine this won't look better than the current BD's I have.

While I know not everyone has that luxury, are there people buying the 4k just for the BD? For me, the BD might never even get played, so I don't really care if it is a better transfer. I think scaled down 4k will look good anyways.

Does your 1080p projector also handle HDR? I doubt that. Then, wouldn't your projected image be a gray mess, without an HDR decoder?

What kind of projector and player? It's going to come down to a lot of conversion and tone mapping...and depending on how it's done, the BD might look much better.

Encode and remaster - different things. New encode means old master. So there's difference between T2-Unforgiven and Batman Begins-Prestige. New encode isn't even worth mentioning.

Worth mentioning, sure. Worth mentioning in the same bracket as an outright remaster at source? Nah. They're two different things.

I don't need to keep going. I've already answered his question. And if you're tired you can simply ignore it.

That's why I said:

Thankfully it's much less frequent and offensive than on E.T. for example.

Colors are very natural, it's a lot closer to the old BD than the heavy, yellow, print-like look of the 3D one. I even found the colors a bit too subdued and the white point a bit too cold in a couple of shots.

It's not exactly a pristine 4K Sony transfer, but still leagues ahead of the ancient BD. I don't think anyone's going to be disappointed.
Just saw JP and those are my exact thoughts about it too

So these aren’t coming out individually in the US right?

There's a chance they may at some point. The Mummy set was released in the spring like this and then singles came in the fall, but that may have been due to a whole lot of complaining about the cardboard packaging.

So, if Universal followed a similar pattern, full set is now, and possibly singles later in the year. But as of right now, there's no word on if they're actually going to do that or not.
