Amazing how Battle: Los Angeles actuelly looks legitimately WORSE. So not only do you get the extras dropped and the worse PQ, but its likely more expensive then the first release as well. By far the worst of the 'Mastered in 4K' line up. Its a lose-lose situation which ever way you look at it.

Also, that only SOME of these films were not taken from 4K DIs on their original Blu-Rays. The ones that were previously released on Blu-Ray from older masters (Spider-Man, Ghostbusters, Glory) will show more improvement than ones that were already mastered in 4K (the 2010-2012 titles, plus Taxi Driver).

4K refers the mastering process; this means the actual films were scanned in to at least at 4K resolution - but they are ALWAYS scaled down for 1080p for Blu-ray. As mentioned, nothing exceeds 1080p for Blu-ray.

This is just what Blu-ray needed, more confusion for the niche market format that nobody outside of the more tech savvy seems to know about.
So now are we buying Blu-ray or super Blu-ray?,and if people are a little confused on this forum imagine what the masses will make of it. |

Heh. The placeholders for the UK M4K discs at amazon have them listed simply as 'Blu-ray 4K', and the point-of-sale stuff for the X9's free discs offer also says '4K Blu-rays' or something to that effect. I think Sony know how utterly fearful we Britishers are of new technology and they're trying to keep it simple, but that's a bit too ****ing simple.

I'm still confused, haha. So if I bought the 4K version of Taxi Driver and put it on side-by-side next to the one I already own. Would it look exactly the same? What's the real difference? It's sounding like these aren't even worth picking up.

depends on the size of the screen you are watching on. but you should notice a little difference at around ~80 inch. but thats not much.
biggest difference on these new releases is they changed some of the contrast settings.. and you are missing most of all bonus concent / ext. cuts its not worth it for most releases that have already a 4k master... |
