Yeah but he used Robert's sons blood to do it. He considered him to be a false king like Robb and Joffrey. Because they were claiming something he thought was rightfully his. Even if in Robb's case it was just freedom for the North.

David and Dan said there was just one, though we might get a few next year judging by those casting calls.

Regardless, it looks as if Snow's Valyrian Steel blade can kill a white walker, so for TV purposes the debate's settled.

Valyrian Steel probably is almost certainly dragon steel but the books don't make that completely clear, because Sam just finds references to it in old books. In the books obsidian can definitely kill them, but I don't remember them actually ever using Valyrian steel against a white walker, so it's just speculation. |

Hmm...the books mention that Valyrian Steel is spell-forged and magical. Can't remember if it's the same in the show.

Do they? It's been a long white since I've read 'em, must've just completely missed it. Do you remember which book that was in? It seems bizarre that I would've completely glossed over it because shit like that interests me the most and when reading the books I always got the impression they were meant to be like the Ulfberht swords or something. I remember them saying they needed dragonfire or something to make them, but I never remember the swords themselves doing anything "magical" or special apart from being just super high quality steel. I know that horn the Greyjoy guy found was obviously enchanted seeing as it destroyed the lungs of that dude who used it and I remember it being mentioned that it was made out of Valyrian steel, but I got the impression it was magical because of all the runes and shit carved into it. I mean, Ned Stark's sword Ice was melted down into ingots and reforged into 2 new swords with no loss of quality, as it if were workable kind of metal and not some magical substance.

I don't necessarily remember either, but the wiki of Ice and Fire mentions as much. It provides the sources as AGOT chapter 2 and the below interview with Martin from 2001:
