Yep, whatever the quaility of the movies. The CGI has always been the absolute best the technology has been available at the time in every movie.

I just hope that they restore the original warm colour timing for the 4K trilogy blu-ray release. We know that they'd use the 2013 4K scan for JP1. But for JP2 and JP3, they'll most likely use the 1080p master and upscale it, like they did with The Mummy 2 and 3 on UHD. So, there will be lots of mosquito noise (not grain) in parts 2 and 3. But, I hope they at least get the colours right. The current 2D blu-ray colours are not just wrong, they look horribly dull and flat.

Hoping this is a clip from the movie (too cute to not include!), the cinematography appears very video-ish and digital. It does not look like film at all. I hoped they'd at least try match the look of the past films but that doesn't seem to be the case. Still, I'll wait for the trailer to see what look they have gone with.

The effects of all three films took hard work. Hopefully not blood, but a lot of sweat, sleepless nights and coffee; especially for the first film when they had to re-invent the wheel for cinematic special effects in a revolutionary manner. Last edited by Riddhi2011; 11-22-2017 at 05:10 PM. |

Are you really comparing 'Jurassic Park' trilogy's effects with those two films, especially the shitty effects of 'The Mummy returns?' You're saying this just for the sake of it; to support your point. There's a night and day difference between JP and any other CG-centric movie series.

I think that what made the effects appear worse than they were was the blue color grading.

CGI is a funny thing.
Sometimes you don't notice it at all; like the Explorer in Jurassic Park when the Rex flips it over. It's CGI! Looks vividly real even today. Perhaps the strong emotional content of the scene (kids in mortal danger) helps you subconsciously believe in what you're seeing, although I could easily see the opposite being the case. Other times it's clearly not 100% convincing, but such a huge amount of time, money and effort obviously went into it that I'm impressed and enthusiastic about it regardless. Yoda in Attack Of The Clones, Tarkin in Rogue One (Leia at the end looked like $hit though). And of course other times it simply blows you away with how real it looks, even though what you're seeing is impossible. Davey Jones and his fishy misfits in Dead Man's Chest and At World's End are possibly the most staggering CGI creations I've ever seen. Watching DMC for the first time with a friend, I turned to him during Davey Jone's introduction and said "the CGI is fùcking amazing!" |

I wish they would somehow make a JP movie that largely takes place at sea and underwater so they could introduce more prehistoric sea creatures.
