They do it so as to panic you into buying it. It's a marketing strategy, and it is indeed quite f**king ridiculous.

I don't pay $30+ for movies so I doubt I'll be getting this. If I find a stray copy at the end of the semester (after I sell back my books) I might go ahead and bite.

Ok, I placed my order at Amazon for $30. Thanks Disney for making me purchase my first $30 movie.

This is stupid. I guess since these are 2 movies, $30 isn't as bad as I think it is, but still. Come on. Give us a year before pulling the damn title off the shelves. Sigh!!

The thing is, once this goes out of print, you'll have to pay twice the cost for a used copy on Ebay. That's what worries me.

But anyways, you're right. I've just cancelled my order. I don't think it will have much rewatchability anyway. If anyone here would like to convince me to place my order again, feel free. I'm all confused and don't know what to do now.

I got it as part of the Amazon buy 3 Disney movies get $20 off promo. I got Fantasia, Snow White and Beauty and the Beast for $45. I figured this was my best shot to get Fantasia because there is no way I would pay $30 for that or any other single movie.

I'm going to try to hold out for a sale price. If even a recent release like Bambi can drop to $12.99, then Fantasia can drop to $20 or $25 again before the time is up. Once the date for the "vault" announcement is reached, I might jump forward and go for it at $30 but until then, I'll hold out for another sale or coupon.

Wish I'd picked this up on release week. I had the coupon printed out and everything. I must have been short on cash that week.

You guys don't seem to understand. Since this is going back in the vault in 10 days, demand is now higher than ever. There's no point in putting this on sale since people are going to grab a copy asap before it goes OOP. You have to buy it for $30 now, pay $50+ for a used copy after 4/30, or screw the movie altogether. Those are your only three options.

I'll head over to J&R during my lunch hour and see if they have it. According to their website, it's $32.29, which is only $3 more. If I find it for that price and it's in good shape, I'll consider buying it today.

I'm doing the same. I'm going to watch the prices and the copies on shelves and wait for a sale. If one never comes, then I might snatch it up as availability dries up. Otherwise, I'll just wait a few years for the reissue. Fantasia isn't one of my "must haves," but I did own it on DVD and would like to own it on blu.

However, I can live if I don't end up getting one this time around.

With Disney, I am learning that release week with a coupon is indeed the best time to get their titles. Sales may come later on, but they don't always end up happening.

Ok, I went to J&R and bought it for $32.29. They had about 6 copies there, lol. I know I could have ordered it from Amazon, but really, $3 ain't gonna kill me. I didn't bother ordering it from Amazon because I don't feel like waiting for it to arrive nor do I feel like jacking up my credit card bill. I never owned Fantasia on DVD or VHS and would really like the opportunity to own these. I should have bought these during release week, but like Deviation, I held back from buying them for some reason. I guess I just never got around to buying them. I'm paying for it real good now. When "The Lion King" comes out, I'm definitely snatching a copy during release week. I agree, buying Disney titles during release week definitely seems like the way to go. I learned my lesson now.

Sorry for buying into this Disney marketing scam, but like I said, it's been soooo long since I've watched Fantasia and I've never owned the movie on any format ever. So, I think I deserve this copy no matter what it costs. If you think about it really, a BD and DVD copy of both Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 is not the worst deal. It would be nice if it was $20, but when you do the math, you're only paying $15 per movie. I guess we all should remember this.....with Disney, patience is not virtue.

I was lucky enough to get this set for 15 bucks at Zellers with the coupon on release day (They had it marked for 25 dollars before coupon, last time Zellers put a DVD cheaper than the competition though). It's such a shame it's going back into the vault so soon! I still have my VHS copy from Christmas 1991. If anyone really needs this in Canada, you can do the trade & save deal and get it for 31.99. It's high, but cheaper than the 35+ you'd pay else where.

Disney movies are always so expensive. I couldn't resist in ordering the Blu of Up from Amazon USA for 24 bucks, considering that I paid 31 for the Deluxe DVD (Yes, Wal-Mart hosed me, and I haven't bought from them in a long time), and the same Blu set is retailing at 37 bucks at Future Shop right now, 32 if you do the whole trade and save deal.

I broke and bought it today. Amazon's got a deal where you can get $20 off if you buy three of Disney's combo packs. Picked up Beauty and the Beast and Bambi along with it to round out my collection of Disney animation on BD for a total of $46.

I don’t know if it’s just my Blu-ray player, but the Fantasia 2000 menu is messed up. When I try to navigate through the menus and try to select Play Movie, Scene Selections, Setup, and Bonus Features, it moves so fast and keeps skipping a selection. For example, Play Movie is highlighted and I try to select Scene Selections, but it moves so fast and skips right to Setup. And so on. I have to fool around with menu to finally get it to select what I want. No matter how light and quick I press the arrows on my remote, the navigation still moves way too fast and skips a selection. Weird. The first Fantasia BD is fine. It’s just the Fantasia 2000 menu that acts weird when I try to navigate it.

It's like that for everyone. Whoever programmed the menu for F2000 did a horrible job as the cursor is too sensitive.

Whew. I'm happy it wasn't just me. I was beginning to think that this may be the first BD I've bought that is having issues on my Sony BDP-S360. Seriously, that should've been easy to detect with a little bit of quality control. What happened, Disney?

Default BD-Live

Does anyone know if it's possible to watch the BD-Live features, such as The Making of Fantasia in Full Screen? I can only watch them in this tiny window with the menus and control still visible. This is the first time I've tried BD-Live with any disc. Is this just a Disney thing or do all BD-Live features play in a small window? That would be very disappointing if true.

No, as discussed earlier in this thread, this is the only way to see them. And that's not typical for BD-Live, just for this Fantasia release.

Too bad there wasn't a way to access them directly as the BD-Live extras are all apparently on the discs themselves.

I'm really hoping that Disney puts together some kind of program so we can get the Virtual Vault features on a disc, I don't like the Virtual Vault, it takes forever to load, and the features are not full screen.

There's a video store near me where they're selling it, used and without the slipcover (can't really say anything about the condition of the disks--I don't even know if it includes the dvds) for $14. I couldn't believe it, I paid about $27 for it, thinking it wouldn't go down in price! But, anyway, I'm glad I picked this up before it goes into the vault.
