A bit of fun and humor is what comic book films should be delivering.

Not the whole dark super serious emo stuff that DC/WB has been shoveling.
Well, there are some "comedy = kiddies, serious grimdark = ADULT" people who flat-out refuse to enjoy anything lighthearted or fun with their comic book movies. It's pretty annoying.

That would be AMAZING.

We should start a foundation. Or at least have a charity collection for those people.

Yeah, conceptually, I can see the similarities, but tone... not so much. Hopefully there will be enough subtext to make it interesting than what's just on the surface.

P.S.: I can't stand Galaxy Quest.
Me either, which is why I'm concerned.

Oh yeah, isn't Michael Rooker supposed to be in this movie? I'm surprised they didn't show him considering he's a fan-favorite from Walking Dead.

They're saving him for the next trailer. As well as some other things.

I thought I read someplace that Bradley Cooper was going for a Good Fellas Joe Pesci-type voice with his performance. Which makes me question why they just didn't get Joe Pesci, which would have been perfect.

Oh, I get it. With a character named "Star-Lord" and a talking raccoon, they probably thought they couldn't sell it any other way. This is pathetic and an insult to the series.
You're an idiot or a troll. Maybe a bit of both.

Give me this, a sequel that sets up the GoTG coming to Earth to fight Thanos in the end, and have them show up in the final battle with Thanos at the end of The Avengers 3.

Yeah, Rooker's in most James Gunn things.

I don't really see the Galaxy Quest similarity - I don't think it's the same humour at all. Which is good for us!

Hmm. That hasn't sold this to me. I don't mind gags - I loved IM3 - but the humour here seems lazy and, well... just unfunny. The whole "Starlord" bit felt very familiar ( as did the "anyone else" gag in THOR THE DARK WORLD) and the a-holes line would have been a lot funnier if it wasn't constrained by its rating. I'm also a bit dubious that Chris Pratt is charismatic enough - I can't really tell the difference between him and Patrick Wilson.

Obviously it's just a short trailer so I'm not making any final judgements. But I'm not feeling it right now.

I admit being skeptical about "Guardians of the Galaxy" since the very beginning. I was never sold on the concept even if it somehow tied into the bigger picture with Thanos and Avengers, but now it's gone from dread to anticipation.

It's still a shame that Michael Rooker didn't get the role of Rocket Raccoon.

He campaigned pretty hard for it. And The Rook would have been awesome in the role.

Maybe not quite as extreme in humor or silliness as Galaxy Quest, but if I had to place this movie somewhere on this list of science fiction films, ranked from serious level to comedic level, based strictly on the tone seen within this trailer, I would say it looks like it falls somewhere between The Fifth Element and Galaxy Quest for me. Which is fine if that's what some people want... for better or worse, that's what it looks like.

  • Dune (most serious)
  • Star Wars
  • Star Trek
  • Firefly/Serenity
  • The Fifth Element
  • The Last Starfighter
  • Galaxy Quest
  • Space Balls (most comedic)

I think you may have Star Wars and Star Trek mixed up.

I guess I should have clarified... JJ Abrams' Star Trek, which had more humor than any of the Star Wars films. I'm not talking about concept or production or quality, just level of humor and tone.

I am very curious as to how well this will do at the box office. I'm going to guess right now a domestic opening weekend of around $60 million.
