Space Patrol - Complete Series Blu-ray Set

Direct pre-order here: http://networkonair.com/exclusives/2...ray-pre-order-

Was thinking about this series only the other day and wondering if someone would ever remaster and re-release this long OOP early Network DVD in HD. They are and at £35 ppd I'm in.

I'm not sure how well their vinyl releases have been selling but if Network were to do an LP (or CD) of FC Judd's electronic music and effects I'd definitely buy it day one.

Ordered. Never seen it but as I'm waiting on the full set of Captain Scarlet before getting that one I thought I'd do my bit and support some other classic puppetry in the meantime.

Got a dispatch email for this this afternoon.

Release isn't supposed to be until 2nd April, so could be another Captain Scarlet-style 'jumping the gun' dispatch notice...

Does anyone know about Gerry Anderson's Space Precinct? Who owns the rights and how likely is a Blu-ray release? Preferably from network I hope.

Space Precinct was edited on tape so the chances of a genuine HD release on Bluray is very slight.
The show doesn't have a following large enough to warrant the cost of the work required.
And that assumes the original materials are safe. AFAIK they aren't. When the UK dvd's appeared they couldn't even find the original 2 part versions of the 2 part stories and they were presented in feature length format.

Apparently by the time the US dvd's came out they were recovered but it doesn't bode well for any kind of restoration of the series on any format.

It was a Mentorn production (the same people who made Treasure Hunt for C4) but they've been bought , sold and swallowed up over the years so who owns it now I don't know

Gerry Andersons son seemed able to acquire access to the original pilot movie which bears little resemblance to the series and won't be owned by Mentorn but the series is separate

Regarding Space Patrol - the dvd set has tons of extras so I hope Network won't be following their usual Bluray route and ditching them

OK, thanks for your reply, I hope the Space Patrol includes all of the extras from their dvd release too.

I asked on the comments of that trailer for the space patrol blu ray boxset and network responded that there are no special features carried over from the dvd release and that they will "consider" a Space Precinct release. Their original dvd release had some nice stuff...

Yes, I couldn't see any extras listed on their site listing so suspected that meant no extras.
Unlike their other Blurays the Space Patrol dvd's had a huge amount of bonuses. The show is a primitive kids series that most nostalgic adults would struggle to watch more than a couple at a time so the bonuses gave it some adult interest.
That's 2 full price sales they won't be getting

It's a shame for sure, just want everything in one place and its not like anyone was asking for a new extra but thats the way it is im not cancelling my pre-order and hope one day Nerwork could do a "Roberta Leigh Treasures" disc.

Well, why do Space Precinct, which is OOP and has been for a long time, when they can prepare another totally unnecessary Prisoner release.....

Because Space Precinct on Bluray is impossible as things stand now but they don't need much of an excuse for another Prisoner release.
Although the basic set seemed unnecessary even for the 50th the special set included an update of the book , now in hardback and in colour, a 6 cd set which now includes all the soundtrack not just half of it in addition to the Blirays themselves which, to be fair, did now all come with text commentaries , some new extras and a new documentary although interest in the latter might be limited depending on your familiarity with Six Into One The Prisoner File.

Yes, I should have qualified that, I did mean the standard set. The special is clearly a worthy upgrade, but the standard set is better in some ways and worse in others, than the previous set.

They clearly still have the rights to Space Precinct, and whilst yes, a blu ray release is 99.999999999% not going to happen, many people would no doubt be satisfied with a re-issue of the DVD set, which has now been OOP for ages here.

Although no where near GA's best production, it's treatment on these shores has always been somewhat disappointing. You can watch it on Amazon in the States. Here, nothing. No streaming, no DVD, nada.

I'm almost certain that Network do not have any rights to Space Precinct. The pilot movie seen on one of the Network Gerry Anderson dvd's was made 10 years before the series went ahead and ownership differs from the series and the pilot was previously available on a dvd from the Anderson fanclub

And I'm pretty sure that Space Precinct was also available on Amazon UK some time ago as I seem to recall checking it out when someone claimed it was in HD which clearly seems very unlikely.
The British dvd's while deleted can be purchased. There usually only seems to be one or two volumes that are over priced. And if you're region 1 compatible you can get the US dvd set - also now deleted

Assuming its gone up since you looked at it, the one on there at £27 at the moment is the cropped 16:9 version.
