State of Play

PQ: 4.5 (out of 5)

AQ: 4.0 (out of 5)

Film: 3.5 (out of 4)

Excellent thriller. Crowe proves once again how good of an actor he is and Affleck did well too. I think Bateman stole all the scenes he was in. I really enjoyed the complexity of the plot and I thought the pacing was spot on.

While I can't comment on the PQ and AQ as I still have yet to watch my Blu-Ray copy, I do agree with your film score. I really enjoyed the movie when I saw it last year and look forward to watching it again.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Film: 4 stars (out of 4)

I'm as reluctant as one can be when it comes to seeing the movie versions of my favorite books. This book, in particular concerned me in terms of how it would be filmed. Yes, it has the most interesting character in fiction (some book reviewers consider Lisbeth the most interesting EVER for a serial character--I've read hundreds upon hundreds of books, both classic and modern and I can honestly say that no character compares) and it is a crime story on the exterior, making it ripe for the big screen. Nevertheless, I was concerned that the theme of violence against women and the complexity of the plot would be difficult to film.

After viewing the film, all my worries evaporated. The omissions from the book were wisely done and improve the pacing. The writer/director kept the complexity of the book in some regards, but made it easier for the common viewer to understand. The casting was excellent and Rapace was incredible as Lisbeth. Directing was very effective.

Overall, this is an incredible film taken from an even more incredible source material. It is a must see for foreign film fans and crime fans.

Let The Right One In
Movie: 5/5
PQ: 4.5/5
Audio quality: 4.5/5

This is an absolutly stunning picture with a great blu ray treatment (though make sure you get the blu ray with theatrical subtitles). A must own, and a great blind buy for those who have yet to see it.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

4.5/5

Great movie, the humor is most of the time hilarious, love the characters of Jack and Barbossa (the actors did quite good in their roles, Depp specifically), very good story, nice visual effects, great cinematography (so many gorgeous ocean/outdoor shots).

I personally love all three of the movies (Dead Man's Chest being my favorite). I rate each as a 4.5/5, but 2 being slightly higher than the others and 1 and 3 changing places occasionally.

PQ - 5/5, the movie looks simply beautiful.

AQ - If I recall either a 4.5/5 or a 5/5, but tonight I watched it at a friends house through television speakers.

I think it's because people where dissapointed, not because the transfer was terrible (just incredibly dissapointing for such an awaited release).

Poseidon - I have been waiting since I started collecting blu's (May 09) for this film to be released. I am a fan of this film. The graphics are great and its very entertaining. I know a lot of people say the original is much better, and that may be but I never seen it so I cant compare. However that was an impressive boat to start the film itself. They had a decent cast and it moved at a very good pace. This one has real good replay value as well. Got Em!!

Film - 3.5/5
PQ - 4/5
AQ - 4.5/5

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
- First time viewing this film and it and I had a good time with it. Not hilariously funny but it had its moments. Like the characters played by Jonah Hill, & Paul Rudd. Mila Kunis was gorgeous as usual! Watched this on directv in HD so I wont rate PQ or AQ but overall I give the film 3.5/5 Got Em!!

Watched:

"The Goonies." It's been a long while.

Entertainment: 4/5. Pretty solid fun; the pacing is brisk, lots of peril, some good comedy.

Story: 4/5. Characters are likable and fun (even the bad guys), though not terribly well-developed. The story is pretty well-constructed.

Film: 4/5. Good photography. Acting and writing are good. Sets, props, and costumes are pretty good (although some things look fake). Lighting is pretty interesting in some parts. Music is great. Also noticed some interesting references to other movies Spielburg produced/directed (like "Gremlins" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark") and a reference to another Richard Donner film ("Superman").

Intellectual/emotional: 0/5. Nothing but nostalgia.

Total: 4/5.

The UK Blu-Ray for this looks better than I first thought; a very clean and decently sharp image. Color and contrast are pretty good. Sound quality is so-so; some parts I couldn't tell what the screaming kids were saying. Some decent extras on the disc.

"Big Trouble in Little China."

Entertaiment: 5/5. Practically non-stop action, fast pacing, good comedy.

Story: 3.5/5. Characters are likable and fun, but not 100% deep. The story is kinda weird; I feel that more exposition could have been used to explain some things some more (like the whole deal with Lo Pan's curse, the mythical background, etc; the movie seems to provide just a very quick blip about things before moving along). But otherwise, it's decent.

Film: 4.5/5. Cheesy in some parts, but it's a good film for the most part. Good photography. Excellent special effects. Excellent sets, props, costumes, etc. Cool music.

Intellectual/emotional: 0/5. Ol' Jack Burton says...what the hell?

Total: 4.5/5 (rounded up from 4.33). It's awesome.

The Blu-Ray has some video noise in the opening scenes, but it clears up as it goes along and the rest of the film looks perfectly sharp and clean. Color and contrast tend to look a little bland in some parts, but other scenes are perfectly colorful. Sound quality is excellent. The disc has many good extras.

I liked this version a lot as well-- I always love the criticism of this movie--
it was edited before release and they cut a lot of the early scenes introducing the characters in more detail-- so critics ripped it saying there was no character development....

and yet almost every disaster film I can think of has cardboard characters straight out of a soap opera that nobody cares about and you sit there waiting for what seems like forever for the disaster to strike!

you just can't win with critics!

Well be disappointed but don't talk bad about the current title, especially if you doing a review on the movie.

Haha I hear u. There are some exceptions but regardless I think we knew enough about the main characters for the most part. Yes a bit more development wouldve been cool but I dont think what they showed made it a bad film. Glad u enjoyed it like I have. Got Em!!

Basic Instinct - Finally watched this film for the first time. Wow Sharon Stone was off the hook in this movie! Michael Douglas was made for these kind of rolls haha! Very intense film and very good performances by Stone & Douglas. I assume that in the end
[Show spoiler]she was going to kill him like in her book, but when he decided against having kids as she stated she wasnt interested, it made her happy so she left the ice pick alone and accepted him?
What did anyone else think? Watched on directv in HD and I would give the film 4/5 Got Em!!

North Shore - Its been along time since Ive watched this 80's film with the sexy Nia Peeples. Cheesy surf movie about a guy goin for his dream of surfing in Hawaii. I remember liking this film as a youngster and loving Nia Peeples. It was just as I stated a cheesy brainless film that if u were an 80's kid u would be fond of it. It was great to see the Nia again in her bikini. I would give the film 2.5/5 and that is mostly because I had a bit of a soft spot for the movie. Got Em!!
