No, comparing them to current asking prices is terrible advice, especially if it is something that isn’t often posted. Some people post OOP stuff for hundreds of dollars and it never sells. The best route would be to compare it to recently sold listings.

If you have just few (let's say, less than ten [10]) SteelBooks, you can search for each title and see the asked price on several locations where such items gets listed for sell, but if you have MANY MORE, would be a very tedious process if you'll want to asses each and every single one of them. For "all WWA" SteelBooks, I would suggest to figure out a "price range" based on the finish (see above) of the SteelBook and the kind of disks it contains, prices being from lowest to the highest as this: DVD (if somehow, you did not mentioned exclusively Blu-Rays) < Blu-Ray (BD) < Blu-Ray 3D (3D) < Blu-Ray 4K UHD (4K) < ALL of the Blu-Rays (BD+3D+4K) in a single pack, and then price all that fit the category the same (if not somehow find out or already know about some that are REALLY rare and sought of). For example, an WWA that is only BD that has no embossing nor gloss, will be the lowest price tier (UNLESS a VERY sought out movie title, with a GORGEOUS artwork - highly improbable), whereas a SteelBook that has all kinds of disks (BD+3D+4K) and has a (minimum) of embossing and is glossy would be the highest tier of prices. Hope this helps ... ![]() |

Hi guys, strange question probably, but do you buy always the steelbook edition of the movies? I started with them a little while ago (i've always collected the classic amaray)? if not, in base of waht do you buy the classic amaray or the steelbooks?
unfortunately i still have a very limited collection since i started just one year ago when i bought my home, and i have a ton of movies to buy and even if i like the steelbooks, it's hard to buy only them. i don't know how you guys have thousands of movies and steelbooks from all over the world. i really envy you (in a good way of course) |

I got one a week or so ago, it had round scratches on the front, replacement came today and it’s the same thing. The plastic scratches this particular steel for some reason where the piece that holds the pin presses admgainst the steelbook.
Are all titans of cult releases like this or is it just this one? ![]() ![]() |

Secondly, I said will be a tedious process if there are many SteelBooks, but I consider is a fair and correct process IF someone really wants to CORRECTLY assess their collection. Then, it is correct to say that someone should watch for the “actual selling price” instead of the “asked price”, yet, have you never heard about “fake sales” on eBay? HOW EXACTLY can we CERTAINLY KNOW the selling price, other way than we would be either seller or buyer? And ultimately, if for you a non embossed SteelBook is the same value as a non embossed one, or even worse, if you consider WEA the same as WWA, then you clearly are not a SteelBook collector, or you would had known that those “small” details can GREATLY make differences in prices. In the end, we all share here our ideas and options, and the originator of the question will choose which opinions will take into account and which will not. I for one, hope that what I say/write here (all drawn from my own experience), will help! |

Regarding your conspiracy of fake sales, the steelbook market isn't that big. And almost all steelbooks are going to have recent sales. The value would likely be in the average of all those sales, not some hypothetical clown that went out of his way to fabricate a sale in something so niche as a steelbook. You seem to be creating wild hypothetical in order to attempt to prove a point in a debate that isn't happening. Regarding your discussion on embossed versus not, WEA vs WWA, and the very strange questioning of my status a "Steelbook collector," etc.--what are you even talking about? You're putting words in my mouth. I simply said that advice was tedious and not very helpful. I did not say that embossed, etc. steelbooks have a lower value. To your point, they "can" greatly make a difference in the value. But wildly pricing your items based on a title being embossed is not effective way in getting the true value of your steelbook. In that event, you might as well just list everything as an auction. At least that way you'd get closer to the actual value than if you were to value your matte Matrix 4k steelbook at $20 because the letters aren't embossed. Generalizing based on a steelbook font is strange. Putting that in the same conversation as WEA vs WWA is even more so. |

Have any of you had issues with steelbooks rusting? I went to swap out the Requiem for a Dream Steelbook for the old blu release in my collection, and when I did, I noticed that the Resident Evil steelbooks, just a few spots down on the shelf, all had rust on them. I had never experienced this before. Any advice?

Oh, I guess I should ask this here...
What do they expect you to do with the paper back on the outside? Throw it away? Just keep it loose on the outside? It's kind of annoying. (With the DUNE steelbook I trimmed it a little bit and stuck it in the inside.) |

I keep them, but i have several movies without the j-card or the back paper because when i bought a second hand movie it could happen that the seller doesn't has them anymore. But it's not a problem for me.

But what do you do with them? Because they don't fit inside unless you trim them down. |

I keep all the paper backs and just use them as a buffer between SteelBooks on the shelves or in storage.
I use them to prevent SteelBooks from scratching each other. I always have some sort of buffer between, but I don't believe in the plastic cases. |

You can buy the plastic bags. They are cheap and they do their work well.
