I'm definitely becoming very confident on that one win.
Her only real competition seems to maybe be Emma Stone, and that film is not going to be for all tastes. It's going to be very polarizing, I think. Here, there's so much buzz about making history with Lily being the first indigenous actress nominee/winner and so on. Plus, she has been getting praised to the moon and back for her performance, with some finding her the best thing about the film and many finding her the heart of the film. She's starting to win all the early awards, and the buzz is swelling. If this film doesn't get anything else, I think she'll get it. Otherwise, it may be a lot of noms with no or next-to-no wins. She's Joe Pesci, this year, ![]() |

I would be OK with this winning best picture and Marty getting another best director win at this years Oscars. Mostly to keep Nolan from winning.

I would love to see Scorsese get his second Best Director Oscar, and I'd like to see this get Best Picture. Just because they were my favorites this year.
But, I absolutely DO NOT expect it to happen. Lily, though, I think she's got a STRONG shot. |

Yorgos already directed an actress to the Oscar for an idiosyncratic film. Poor Things is more accessible than The Favourite. It has been a festival darling and getting very good reactions from critics. I think Emma Stone is extremely tough competition in the Best Actress category.

Watched it yesterday. A fantastic evocation of a very dark chapter of US history. Cast were all excellent, wasn’t expecting either of the big actors playing the lawyers at the end, infact completely forgot Jesse Plemons was in it until he turned up!
Hard to tell if Lily was giving an acting masterclass or she was just sleepy the whole film. Last edited by HillSprinter; 12-07-2023 at 01:50 AM. |

Lily Gladstone was on Kimmel last night. They showed a pic from her yearbook where she was named Most Likely To Win An Oscar. At 1:48:
Yes, he was particularly badass when he arrested one of the killers and was so direct about him having nowhere to run. Was he based on a real life person from the book? He’ll be someone to pay more attention to on second viewing since I didn’t realize he was undercover at first. |

Oh well....
I made my very first annual Top Ten list for myself in 1971, the year I turned 20. In 52 years (more than half a century), I have agreed with the Academy's choice for Best Picture just 11 times. And not at all since the 2007 Oscars (in early 2008). "No Country for Old Men" was the last time I agreed with them (how ironic is that, LOL?) So, I'm very used to MY Best Picture choice not winning. Often, it's not even nominated. For trivia: The 11 times I agreed were The Godfather (1972), The Godfather Part II (1974), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), Annie Hall (1977), Amadeus (1984), Platoon (1986), The Last Emperor (1987), Schindler's List (1993), American Beauty (1999), The Departed (2006), and No Country for Old Men (2007). |

I really think this years Academy Awards will be a showdown between Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon.
Yeah, Lily will probably win and should. I could see Margot Robbie winning which would be upsetting although I really love her as an actress. Everything else is open. I don't think Marty will win best director and almost positive it will be Nolan or Greta Gerwig. Supporting actor will also probably be Downey, although I think De Niro gave the better performance. Cillian will probably get best actor. Best picture will be tough, but really hoping it's Killers of the Flower Moon. Easily the best picture of the year by a mile. "Killers of the Flower Moon" has also now been included on the AFI (American Film Institute) Top Ten Films of the Year List (alphabetized). They don't rank, which is pretty classy, actually. They just release an alphabetized list of the top ten films of the year.

This film is picking up some steam with the award ceremonies starting up. I'm not holding my breath when it comes to the Academy as they focus on quality as well as titles that are very popular with the masses.
I honestly think this might be the best film made in the last couple of years and while it has taken a bit of time picking up momentum, I think time will tell us how important this film really is. |

Scorese at his best. A wicked black comedy. Right up there with Goodfellas, Casino, The Departed and The Irishman.
