Still no listing for this on Amazon, just been into HMV and the 5 copies they ordered haven't arrived....balls!!

Suppose it's going to have to be an HMV online job then.

I'm still pissed that Fox did not include the Atmos track that was already completed.

There is a large portion of this movie that looks like it is constantly in that state, which was slightly disappointing.

Still loved the movie as always, but was hoping for a bit more AV wise.
It's not super obvious but I can see the difference in the opening sequence when it cuts back to the wide shot after the first weird close-up of Bruce, there's no titles on that bit and it instantly looked sharper and more well-resolved. Not Sony-good, but with the more filmic look that the grain has then I'll take it.

The HDR for this release was absolutely outstanding. A pleasant surprise, in fact. Highlights, like interior lights, fluorescent lights, LED lights, and muzzle flashes, all look bright but also natural.

And colors like red, and the brief instances of purples and lighter hues of blues, look rich and vibrant.

No encoding issues that I could spot.

Great looking grain that is not over baked into the source.

Just an all around knockout from Fox for this film.

Die Hard has never looked so good.
Oh yes, Heat given this kind of treatment would be lovely. That's another example of an anamorphic-shot film that despite a new 4K transfer from the negative doesn't offer some amazing upgrade in detail over the prior transfer, which itself was no slouch. That's comparing BD to BD in the case of Heat, true enough, but I reckon it'll be much the same story as with Die Hard: absolutely minimal increase in detail in the 4K but better compression, colour and dynamic range.

Just a thought, but that track was completed when McTiernan was still in the klink so he might've nixed it if they consulted him for this release. Same thing happened with the director of Hell and High Water, not the prison thing but the nixing of the Atmos.

Can you imagine the nightmare that would have happened if the people who worked on Grease got a hold of this one?

While definitely possible, given Fox's track record with support for Atmos mixes (even with films that have them), I think it is purely a Fox decision. They rank near the bottom of the pack when it comes to support for immersive audio.

Unlike a very few who have made disappointing remarks, I am on the opposite end of the spectrum, thinking my all time favorite movie with bad*** Bruce Willis now looks better than it ever has before. It also answers a question I have had for 30 years why I have enjoyed every movie that Bruce Willis has been in (even the real slugs)....here all these years I had thought it was envy for being married to Demi Moore (for a time), when in fact it was his initial role as New York cop John McClane. Nirvana has arrived!

Looking Forward to Die Hard 2 now. Just hope they revert the colour timing.

I was wondering about how DH2 will turn out after this. The Blu isn't awesome but will this be another case of diminishing returns re: resolution? Agreed on the colour though, I want the cold look back again.

Yeah, I really hope Fox doesn't sit on the sequels for too long. Depends on the sales for the first I suppose.

I imagine Vengeance has the potential to look pretty delicious with an HDR grade. NYC summer sunshine n' all

My pure guess is Die Hard will do well with sales and I think the price point in stores was fair enough although I suspect $14.99 is not far off like other Fox catalogs.

Apparently the second and third films were remastered in 4K alongside this one back in 2013, and the last two were 2K DI finished theatrically so they'll just be upscaled anyway (not that I'd willingly buy a standalone of the fifth film because it's trash).

I'd get Die Hard With A Vengeance in a heartbeat, but I have no desire to pick up 2 or 4. A Good Day to Die Hard doesn't exist in my world.
