Last night I skimmed through “Fantasia.”

It’s like old-school music video.

The music is wonderful (as expected from the great classics). They are quite effectively married with the animated visuals, which start off pretty simple and evolve into full-blown fantasy segments. “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” segment is obviously the most iconic, most recognizable, and perhaps the most entertaining one of the lot. But every segment is very well-animated and provides a generous helping of visual splendor. Whether it’s a bunch of fairies skimming across a frozen lake, or a massive demon summoning spirits on a dark mountain (could this be the darkest most gothic thing Disney ever put out?! ), or the violent prehistoric creation of the Earth…these are fantastic scenes I’ve yet to see outdone by any other movie. “LOTR” might be a good contender, but thinking about other films, it feels like they’ve missed so many wonderful opportunities (“A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” for example, how cool would it have been if it incorporated the visuals of “Fantasia’s” Nutcracker segment? Maybe “10000 BC” would have been better if it emulated “Fantasia’s” creation-of-the-Earth scenes. Who knows?). “Fantasia” presents a plethora of great imagery that you likely won’t see anywhere else.

As far as the individual stories go, it can be a hit or a miss. “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” is probably the best of the lot story-wise. Most other segments seem to be lacking in point or structure, but as an accompaniment to music it’s hardly a problem. For the most part, it’s better to just sit back and go with the flow.

The animation quality is gorgeous! Texture and detail are very strong, and the movements are very smooth.

4/5 (entertainment: 3.5/5, stories: NA, film: 4.5/5)

This Blu-Ray looks and sounds darn near perfect! A few soft spots maybe, but it looks like an effect of the animation or lens focusing; it is still incredibly sharp, clean, and gorgeous!

PQ: 5/5, AQ: 5/5

The Hurt Locker - 2008

I clearly waited for all the hoopla about this movie to subside to watch it. First off, PQ was excellent, AQ was really good.

I really don't see why it got Best Picture, but I felt that it was a really solid movie anyhow. Many extremely suspenseful scenes, good script, and the story had a good flow to it. Kind of odd to see
[Show spoiler]Evangeline Lilly
in the movie, but that's only because I'm a big
[Show spoiler]LOST
fan, and I haven't seen
[Show spoiler]her
in anything else.

I enjoyed this movie for it's subject content, suspense, and acting. The thing is, this isn't a movie that I would ever buy to watch repeatedly. In fact, after seeing it once, I don't plan on ever watching it again. There are a few movies out there like that, with no replay value... this is one of them.

Definitely worth watching once.

7/10

Ok, so i watched "Inception" for the first time since seeing it in the theater and i've gone from "meh" to to to

Movie: 4.5/5
PQ: 5/5
AQ: 5/5

I thought it was kinda weird how the dream machine became sorta like heroin for some. This addiction symbolism is kinda obvious, but i must've been half asleep when i saw it in the theater, cause it made no impact on me the first time.
Can't give the movie a perfect score, cuz yeah, like the funny internet thing suggests, "why not have the kids grandpa fly them to France?"
The presentation is beyond perfect. I can't wait to hear it with my sub hooked up.

For the first 3 seasons, yes. Then, on July 19, 2010 it was announced that DirecTV had picked up Damages for two more seasons, consisting of 10 episodes each, to air on their The 101 Network. Production on the fourth season is scheduled to commence January 2011

I didn't realize this was the TV show thread, perhaps I need new glasses. Matrix Reloaded 4/5
PQ 4.5/5
AQ 5/5
Quite a follow-up to the original and so much better than a lot of people say. I particularly loved the scenes with the Oracle and the Architect and when Neo saves Trinity.

So in Matrix Reloaded, Commander Lock keeps making a big deal about how he needs every ship they have to defend Zion, yet only Morpheus' ship is involved with the climactic battle and the humans use missiles and mecha instead.

I own it. One of my favorite shows ever. Don't understand why they wait so long to release it on BD though. Probably try to tie it in with the new season in the spring, i guess.

Win-win. I know it is only DTS-HDMA 2.0, but if it's primarily music driven, that's not a total loss; the price sealed the deal .

I'll give Inception another shot. I felt the same way you did in the theater. Any idea what spun it around for you?

Breaking Bad

Yeah, you'll love Damages. Unravel this murder...but oh!!!....Start the season with the murder in episode one and unravel it in reverse over the course of the season. Who to trust?.....

If Riff can do a 180, I have to be honest that I "may" have missed some subtle or hidden qualities. Maybe. Perhaps.
