Would love it if Criterion releases The Princess Bride but nothing in the picture really gives us a hint towards it besides a wedding dress, which can be a clue for a million other movies.

Even though she's benefitted from the lensing of two great cinematographers, I'm pretty sure I can say with certainty after watching Tess that Nastassja Kinski is one of the most photogenic actresses to ever grace the screen.

I mentioned "S Bride" possibly supporting it, if someone could get the "prince" from something else (i.e. Prince-S Bride) . It would be cool if they were able to use one drawing as both "Marry S" qnd "S Bride". It's no doubt a stretch at this point, though I know Criterion have wanted to release it too, but didn't have enough justification to do so.

Adding speculation on future titles (this isn't based upon the New Year's drawing though) -

The 1990 documentary "Paris is Burning" by Jennie Livingston (a film that explores the Drag Ball scene in New York in the late '80s) has been mysteriously made completely unavailable on Amazon - whether digital or on DVD. The film was recently added to the National Film Registry, so I'd think it odd that it would just disappear. A similar situation occurred a few years ago when Criterion acquired "The Times of Harvey Milk" around the same time that that film was added to the National Film Registry. Would it be at all possible that "Paris is Burning" could see a Criterion release before too long? The film has jumped from distributor to distributor over the past few years (independently distributed then Miramax then Lionsgate, now unknown). Would Criterion make the film its new home?

They missed the bottle of alcohol (or poison) on the table. I also doubt they'd have two flags for Buena Vista Social Club.

Still though, I would throw them my money if they were to release The Princess Bride through their collection.

People seem to be assuming that's a window. But does anyone else think that looks more like a painting than a window? If we go with my theory, what are the possibilities?

Beetlejuice actually is quite acclaimed amongst certain film buffs! So it's not a completely off-road suggestion...

I've read guesses for Murnau's Sunrise or Ozu's Good Morning. Sunrise has been released, but Criterion is known for rereleases of course, but I hope for the latter.

I believe it was also on Netflix US recently, but it's not there now. I would double-dip for that in half a heartbeat. The special features could be spectacular.

If we get both Paris is Burning and Hedwig this year...

Good Morning is a nice guess, given Criterion's love of Ozu! Obviously we know the Blu Ray has been out in Japan for a few years now. But then, what's with the window...

It's a pretty vague clue really

A Place in the Sun would be awesome. We do know George Stevens Jr. has been working on it for a couple years.

It also made me think of The Sun Also Rises but I don't suppose there's a good film adaptation of that novel.

Howzabout Sunset Boulevard? Then again the last release didn't need much adding to it

Definitely hoping for A Place in the Sun as well.

The Henry King Sun Also Rises is a good guess as the UK is getting a release this year, but I'm kind of skeptical about the quality of that film given the other Henry King films from the fifties.

Sunrise would be a head scratcher as it already has a good release from Fox.

I was going to say that myself.

Looks more like a sunset than a sunrise to me.

And those parallel lines on the ground almost have the appearance of a road.

Then again, not sure why the window pane would be used for Sunset Boulevard...which already has a great BD release.

Are the birds significant in any way?

It's a winding road. Could that be a clue?
