Can some who have gotten their replacements chime in on what condition their new disc arrived in? I'm worried that since it's sent in Just a cardboard envelope that it's going to be a scratched up mess.

You'll be lucky if it's just scratched and not broken.

According to a picture posted several pages back...it arrived in a sleeve in the FedEx cardboard envelope.

Thanks for the reply! I get out of work everyday at 4, so it shouldn't be a problem. This whole 'job thing' is really interfering with my personal time.

I have created this thread because the dedicated thread was getting a wee bit cluttered.

The first edition of Gladiator of which Universal held the rights to the master was plauged by Edge Enhancement (evidence by ghosting halos above the heads and bodies of characters) and Digital Noise Reduction (removal of film grain to such an extent that massive amounts of detail are lost) infact the DNR was so bad that the starting battle scene looked like the flaming arrows in the sky just vanish.

The remastered version was completed by Scott Free (Ridley Scott's company) and Universal a few months ago and looks stunning because they went in and scanned the original Super35 negatives at 4K, re color graded it and applied NO DNR or EE easily making it the superior version.

Here are the address's of the two exchange centre's

UK:

Universal Pictures (UK) Ltd
'Gladiator Exchange'
Prospect House
80-110 New Oxford Street
London
WC1A 1HB

US and Canada:

PHE Mkt c/o Deluxe Media Management
P.O. Box 801464
Valencia, CA 91380-1464

Telephone number of Paramount: 888-889-9456 (Thanks to Westonian)

The operator will only want to confirm that you have the old disc, using the number on the inner ring of the disc (data side) so it's not entirely necessary.

I would take disc one and make a note of the number in the inner ring data side ( you would have to hold it in the light at a certain angle) it should be NA*****B1 or something like that. Then put the disc in a plastic sleeve or something to protect it and then put the disc in an envelope with a letter explaining that you want your disc replaced with the remastered version. Also put your name, address, telephone number and the disc number just to be safe, although I'm sure they'll see it when they look at the disc.

If you are looking for the new version of the sapphire series disk in shops it should have the 2 disc set text missing on the back of the coverart.

Hopefully this helps.

I'm from the UK and have taken a chance on shipping my import Sapphire series disk back to the US.

I wonder if I'll get it back?
Thanks for the information.

I never purchased the original Gladiator in stores, is there a way to tell which disk is what similar to the Superman fiasco, or am i better off waiting another month or so to ensure the new disc is in the packaging.

Hey Guys,

I got a copy of the Gladiator Sapphire Series a couple of months ago. The number on the inner circle on the data side is 030001. Is this the new version or should I exchange it?

If it's a couple of months old, then it probably is the original release. Just watch it and see if you are satisfied with the quality yourself. You may think it's good enough and don't even want to wait to exchange it.

As an update, I guess I was reading the wrong number and called the lady at Paramount who walked me through finding the right number and since it ended in 1B1R2, she said I had the newest version. It was shipped from Amazon on July 2nd.

Good deal. What state do you live in, if you mind me asking? Michigan?

I think they started shipping the exchanges out on August 17.
