Yeah, that's gonna be worth a fortune I tell ya. Discs that claim to have lots of extras that are just bare bones. I love pulling it off the shelf and being reminded of all the stuff they couldn't fit on there.

Ha! Ha! Ha!

I tell ya,.. these mis-printed HD DUD cases will be a worth a fortune!

Ha!

But, but .. 30Gb is enough. Ha!

You know some will end up on ebay and then go for $300 or so more than the original price. My thinking is that when they said TYPO, they are just going to repackage the same discs and release them just as they are. They can probably have that done it a few weeks, but by then it is too late...

I guess maybe it will sell for an elevated price but,...

Why would it be worth more to anyone?

It just claims to be better then it is. That's like putting a BMW logo on a Hundai. Charming.

It's not like these will ever be priceless works of art. I have some very rare Laserdiscs and can't give them away,.. that's HD DUD next year I tell ya.

I am thinking they are going to remove the shrink wrap, slap a sticker or two over the sections on the box mentioning the special features, and re-wrap.

Why spend money on NEW boxes?

Maybe Paramount will have their people line up with black Sharpies and scribble out all the special features listed on the boxes and then reship them back to retailers. Or, better yet, they send instructions to retailers: "How to scribble off special features listed on HD-DVD packaging that could not fit on the disc"

Well, you know how much cheaper HD DVDs are to make It would be less expensive to just throw all the old ones in the trash and make new copies, or just ditch the old ones slap stickers on the ones rolling off the line (although stickers are removeable so not very reliable) and send them out. All in all, you KNOW they are not going to redo the whole disc to include any extras.

Update from DVDEmpire:

Quote:
Just got a request from Paramount that we remove existing artwork and that "revised" artwork will be available shortly.

So it looks like there's a 99% chance that they'll still be releasing this set bare-bones.

Cool Bwahahahaha

Too good. Someone is packing up their desk over this one. So much for quality control. Seriously, how do you get this far along without realizing what you have done?

Default Paramount- Double agent

Paramount was smart. Got paid 150 millions to be a corporate double agent. Hey they did take all 3 mission impossibles with them.
Toshiba thought they bought them but in reality they are purposefully sabotoging HD-DVD from within.

Well maybe not but hopefully if all they do is produce crap it may help Blu-'s cause in the end.

This title i think was orginally announced for both Blu-ray and HD-dvd before they took the buyout. I am wondering if the artwork and specs were written up for the blu-ray version. They probably then thought it might be easier just to slip it onto the hd-dvd cases to save money because they covers were already printed up.

More notes from the DVDEmpire guy again:

Quote:
Well, since I reviewed this set over the past week...if Paramount releases the current version bare-bones, I can let everyone know the video quality is only so-so for an HD DVD release. Pretty much the same look that Top Gun had...not a lot of "pop" and still some visible grain and dirt on the print in various scenes. The Sum of All Fears actually looked WORSE than the others. Clear And Present Danger was somewhat darker than it should have been. Patriot Games was (IMO) the best of the four, and Red October was solid, overall. But all were "average" for HD DVD...nothing that made you go "wow".

i can't help but think that this 'typographical error' is actually true. the error was that it was originally BLU-RAY packaging that they had to convert to HD DVD packaging. the special features did exist at one point for the blu-ray release, but as we all know, HD DVD can't FIT any of them, so they had to pull 'em and forgot to modify the description. it's possible

"Buy one Jack Ryan Collection on HD-DVD and get one Sharpie marker absolutely FREE!"

Dear Paramount,

I'll stick with the Disney BOGO deal, thank you.

Sounds like a very plausible explanation. I would like to hope that Paramount is screwing the HD-DUD camp, something could be going on...between the studios.

That is normally what happens actually.

I've had to do similar on a few titles. Usually when it's something frustratingly big. Not stuff like extras, but stuff like "We said it was rated R, but what we meant to say is the original theatrical cut was rated R, what's on this disc is unrated."

Look at Happily N'Ever After's box though. It does include [a] special feature that isn't on the disc.

[ Add / Edit ]
All that the Studio normally does in a such a recall is ship a bunch of new sleeves/covers to the retailers. The one that comes to mind here is I, Robot, where Fox shipped some stock to at least our store with old cover art. That's all, just old cover art.

i haven't visited the HD DVD cesspools in a while, so i'm just curious to know how they're spinning this one.

are they now using the line that "i buy the movie just for the main feature" line that we use (and i, at least, actually believe)?

and oh, yeah...

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

It's really good to see that they are putting the $150mil to such good use. I should send them my mailing address in case they feel like just handing out cash.

I send nothing but evil wishes to Paramount. I doubt if I will ever support Para***** titles even if they come back to BD. This does not include any Spielberg titles that may be released on BD.

With the exception of Spielberg titles, I'm thinking it would take a Buy 1 Paramount title, get 2-3 Free before Paramount ever gets my $$ again
