I don't think it should hurt it that much. Other sites were predicting it to bomb due to the rating which was silly in the first place before the leak. We will see in the next few weeks.

Oof. That is not good. That's roughly $4 million in losses and maybe more if bad word of mouth spreads.

and that's probably only counting public trackers, since private sites keep their records a lot tighter

I don't think there will be an Expendables 4.

Truth of the matter is, you don't need 80's action stars to make an 80's action movie. The recent Dredd 3D was more of an 80's action movie than Expendables 1 and 2 combined. It's TONE that makes these movies, not language, nudity, explosions, guns, blood (be it practical or optical), or otherwise.

Even if the leak hadn't happened, young people have plenty of other movies they're more interested in seeing this summer. This film was dead before the first day of filming.

Truth is, this franchise has always been hanging on a very thin line, and Sly is lucky he's been able to keep it from breaking for this long. The first film had the novelty, and it worked. 2nd one grossed a little less domestically, but did better overseas (Van Damme is still a big draw internationally, I guess).

This time? A main plot focus on a bunch of young nobodies is already bad start. Gibson, while the best actor to play a villain in the entire series (seriously, how often does he play a bad guy) as he's one of the few "real" actors in this entire series, has had some very bad PR over the past 10 or so years. Personally, I don't give a f*** what he thinks about any and all groups of people, but most Americans don't think this way. And of course, the PG-13 rating. When I was a kid during the 90's, the boys my age were already telling me to "get with the program" cuz while they were all talking about Will Smith and Keanu Reeves, I was still focused on Arnie and Sly. NO ONE under the age of 30, let alone 17 (US ratings) cares about these guys. And for those of you saying "I'm XX years old and I love these guys. Your theory is wrong". No. You are the exception, not the average. Plan on paying to see the movie 1,000 times? Didn't think so.

Will Smith and Keanu Reeves?

I guess these people you knew would be the ones being laughed at now. People now worship the likes of Ms. West from America's Got Talent and new age Vanilla Ice -- he still had a following of 5 teenagers when he performed in a reality tv setting on Today.

Will Smith as a villain, for example? Yikes! He can do Fresh Prince dance moves as an attack!

Not, that the Expendables cast is much better, mind you. Although, Gibson was decent.

Well, we were kids, and kids follow what's cool. In 1995, 'Judge Dredd" and "Junior" wasn't cool. "Bad Boys" and "Speed" on the other hand....

Not really an update on EX4 but Brosnan confirms what has already been said, "It depends on the script and money." I have a feeling if there is an EX4 Brosnan won't be in it.

If we do it will go direct to DVD and it will probably be half of the size/budget of the first one which itself was a very low key, small scaled production.

Everyone will have to take massive paycuts as well which Stallone would struggle with.

Bullsh**, if there were enough zeros in the paycheck, he'd do it in a heartbeat. X D

Straight to DVD might not be a bad thing if they can come up with a good lower key script that isn't about a warlord with an endless army that shoots blanks.

You'd lose Schwarznegger, Li and Statham. Snipes and Banderas would be maybe. Lundgren and Couture already headline DTV. Maybe bring in Michael Jai White and Mark Dacascos. More manageable cast who would get more screen time to develop as characters. With a smaller budget they can't just blow things up left and right and maybe we'd actually get some decent hand to hand fights.

I don't plan on picking up the Blu-ray unless it gets really cheap ($8 or lower).

If there is a 4th, I won't be seeing it unless word of mouth says it's good and that's only if much of the old crew is in it. As others have stated, the presumably lower budget for the next one based on the 3rd's box office makes that unlikely.

It didn't seem like he even had a script. It felt more like, "Hey, we can get Banderas, so stick him in somewhere." Which is actually how all the movies felt like. The first one was the Stallone/Statham show and everyone else appeared when they could, and look at Chuck Norris in the second one.

90 million dollar budget and it looks like a sci-fi original movie. 3 movies pushed out 2 years apart without any time, thought, or effort put into giving us an engaging story with compelling characters.

Greedy and lazy. A surefire formula for failure.

Enjoy your retirement Sly. Unlike your 15 million dollar paycheck for each of these films, at least you've earned this one.
