If it is at all in the spirit of the Souls games, there will be no QTE's. I have to tell you, there is no experience in the world, like taking on a high dragon, solo, with a two handed sword, wearing nothing but a loin cloth, and coming out victorious. R1 for the normal attack. R2 for the heavy attack. Nothing more, nothing less. But you have to watch for his tell before he breathes fire, so you can run away, because firebreath against a naked warrior is instadeath.

It looks amazing but I still haven't decided on a purchase yet. The main thing holding me back is because I don't know if I want to deal with the difficulty. Continually dying like I did in the Soul's games isn't any fun.

Souls games are not difficult, not even a little, in the sense that the gameplay is difficult, or that the enemies are near invincible or that they deal out one-hit kills. Even bosses won't one-hit kill you most of the time. Gameplay is very simple...normal attacks, heavy attacks, rolls and dodges, etc. In Demon's Souls, you could run away from every single non-boss enemy in the game and not get pursued. In many instances, enemies can be defeated with ranged attacks at little risk to the player, though not without cost of resources.

Now, what makes them difficult is that the penalty for death is death. You go back to the beginning of the level, anything you used or lost before death does not get restored, any souls (XP) you gained are lost (but can be reclaimed) and all enemies respawn with full health. You also lose your living form which costs resources to regain. But that's not so big of a deal. These features are all slightly different in each of the prior games, and the "series" became more forgiving, in essence easier, with each installment.

If you are willing to invest the time in the game to learn gameplay, be patient with your progress, and accept that you will die with sometimes frustrating losses, you can find this a very rewarding type of game, if you can learn from your mistakes. That may mean taking a different approach, or returning to an area later upgraded.

If you like cooperative gaming with friends, the design leaves something to be desired, however.

Now you worry me about misguiding you. I would not consider Souls games casual games.

Everyone who has avoided them (not even tried them) because of difficulty just seems to think they are simply hard games to play. Souls were challenging for other reasons, and you still might be unhappy, if you spent all of your gaming time for the evening and ended up losing all of your progress...more than once. This game really needs a demo, for those unfamiliar. And heck, I don't even know how similar the games will be. Bloodborne is supposed to be more accessible, whatever that means.

Yeah, the playing all afternoon just to loose your progress because you did something stupid is frustrating. Hopefully Bloodborne will be more forgiving in this area. That is part of the reason I think I am going to wait for some of the reviews on the difficulty.

Like opening a treasure chest that is not really a treasure chest? Or encountering invisible enemies?

How... How did you run into that scenario at all? That's practically impossible in any souls game. They have bonfires everywhere...

If you know where they are. Some areas are very light on bonfires and people like I presume you and certainly I have played them so much we have forgot how much larger everything felt originally.

considering they said that your lost exp is now put into an enemy that you have to defeat to regain ... means itll be more complicated than inthe souls games where you could quickly run up to a blood stain , grab your exp back and run like hell ....

so dont count on more forgiving ...

and the reason these games were alwaysso hard for people is one simple fact ..

YOU CANT JUST RUN INTO AN ENEMY AND MASH BUTTONS TO DEFEAT THEM ..
which in a game in this type of setup is what most people do ..once you learn to go in slowly , take your time to study the enemies patterns and figure out best course of action , without button mashing the games get considerably easier to play ..

i cant wait for this game ... i hope it renews my love as darks souls II was a major let down for me and i never even bothered to finish it ...

Did you play Demon's Souls? The only bonfire was the one at the start of the level.

Well, we'll have to see. Forgiveness depends on a lot of things. For instance, it was a relatively simple thing to keep repairing your rings that preserved life and souls in DSII, negating any worries about dying. But having to fight for your bloodspot is interesting. Is this only if you are killed by an enemy, or even if you die by a trap or falling?

I was going to post the same thing. You need patience with these games and you will die. Both are things you have to accept before even beginning one.

I think this is my real problem. My game play style is usually more of jump in balls deep with guns blazing.

The more I read/see on this, the more I want to play it. Too bad I still have to finish a lot of games (including DS1 and 2). Looks amazing, though!

It depends on your temperament. I'm as casual as they come but Demon's Souls is one of my top games ever. I don't have time for massive long gaming sessions but still enjoyed finishing it, even if it did take me two years! I didn't mind losing any progress because the game was always fair about it. Hard, yes, very hard at times, but always fair. I never died because of something the game did, it was always something I did, like jumping in balls deep guns blazing or something.

But the level design and amazing sound always drew me back in. Can't wait for this game.
