So there's a Fox release on August 11 and a 20th anni from Warner on October 6. This is gonna be interesting.

I wouldn't be annoyed had you just said that you don't like the movie. But the "apart from the shootout" part really pissed me off and seems to suggest that you want to build temples in Michael Bay's honor.

Now that New Regency took those films to Fox it's highly likely the WB 20th Anniversary release is cancelled.

I wouldn't be annoyed had you just made your critique of that other member's opinion. But the tired, backhanded reference to Michael Bay part pissed me off and seems to suggest that you're yet another movie fan who burnishes his bona fides by dumping on IMO one of the most remarkable visual stylists the "sex it up"/Madison Avenue school of Hollywood has ever produced.

Maybe I'm attributing too much credence to the studio right hand knowing what the left is doing. But it's odd to me that in I think April someone with WB Shop was mentioning on Facebook a WHV re-release of Heat. The reversion of rights to Regency was not a surprise to the business affairs powers-that-be. I suppose, as a former studio employee, I shouldn't be surprised at the disorganization. But it's, um, noteworthy that a memo apparently doesn't/didn't go out such that something isn't promoted that shouldn't be.

michael mann already supervised the video quality.

right now the sound quality needs some serious balancing, the gunfights are too "loud" while some of the dialogue is too soft and drowned out.

The gunfight is supposed to be loud. It's supposed to be deafening if that were legal because the real gunfire on "set" was. Obviously it needs to be mastered so it sounds good as well as loud, but it's supposed to jolt you and make you want to reach for the remote.

Work on the dialogue can certainly be done though. I always wonder how a new(ish) film can have poor dialogue when some much older films can sound so much better. Bane is a good example. Not the way he sounds, just that it's not clear.

A lot of Mann's movies are like that, even Blackhat. Frankly I like it, the violence is supposed erupt and be brutal, visually and aurally.

Regency / Fox planted a fairly significant catalog release flag on August 11:

Same thing with The Last of the Mohicans.

Isn't Mann's trademark to have low dialogue in this movies? Maybe the audio is presented accurately on the current release.

Mann films all tend to feature low volume dialogue and high volume action. In my opinion, how it should sound. More films are falling in to the DR compression realm, not to the same level as in music, but the average is increasing.

I've got to completely disagree with you on that. Thankfully most movies are not like Mann's. One should not have a hard time hearing dialogue then having to increase volume to hear it, only to be forced to turn it down because the action is too loud on the ears.

The action is supposed to be that loud, it just doesn't work well in a home theater if you share walls with neighbors.

You mean fairly insignificant, considering the general quality......or lack there of in this case......of so many "nothing" movies in one release announcement. Another epic fail on Fox's part with that July 1st news.....

Yes...because...if there's ANYTHING we need another release of, it's Heat.

Some of us are actually happy about an announcement or two from then.

I don't hear the issue too often except with Mann movies.

Great for hearing loss too.
