Problem right now with projectors is they don't do HDR well, and HDR is honestly the most "film print in your house" advancement ever in home video. The depth and richness it adds to a real film scan is stunning.

Yeah I have mild astigmatism. I still see 20/20 but it gives me headaches sometimes from the extra focusing I have to do, and 3D/VR instantly make those headaches come on with excruciating force. They're a no-go. It doesn't make me too sad though because when I've forced myself to give them a try I never liked the effect much anyway. Feels gimmicky.

My experience of having a projector since 2004, is that projectors lag behind standard consumer TVs in technology implementation. I see no reason for HDR to be any different. I enjoy a projector too much for my critical viewing to be on anything else. I'm hoping to get another 4 years out of what I have. By then they might have any HDR issues figured out, any I may have 3D to boot.

You know, I'm not really worried about HDR right now. I mostly only watch classic movies, and there really ain't that many classic movies available in 4K right now.

I own an Epson 5030UB, along with a 120-inch screen, and I'm completely satisfied with it. Last night I watched the original Village of the Damned on Blu-ray and it looked great. When the time comes to buy a new projector, it will be one that does HDR, but again, for my purposes, what I have now is good enough. I'm just not into newer movies that much anymore, and it's newer movies that are benefiting most from HDR. I'm more worried about Revenge of the Creature than The Shape of Water (which I haven't seen).

I keep asking in any thread I can find where it comes up and I think folks either don't know or don't care, but would HDR offer any appreciable upgrade to a film made before 1960 in black and white?

In theory, yes. In practice, it depends on the film. With legacy titles, the quality of the film elements are more important than the quality of the recording medium.

I too have an Epson projector, and I find that the benefits of seeing a movie projected onto a big screen far outweigh the benefits of the higher resolution of 4K or HDR. For a computer monitor where I'm sitting close I want the best image possible. For watching movies I want the experience of watching movies like in a theater.

Yeah, exactly where I'm at. It is awesome watching movies at home projected on a big screen.

There's quite a lot of classic movies on UHD I think, but they're all big blockbuster type movies for the most part. E.T., Ghostbusters, Predator, Gladiator, etc. etc. So yeah nothing like these films yet, but someday hopefully... Real film benefits a LOT from HDR. It adds a richness and depth that makes the disc look like a real film print. It's lovely.

If you asked me a couple years ago I would've shrugged and said maybe, but now I'd have to say a clear and emphatic yes. HDR improves depth, contrast and black levels so much, and black and white movies can use that just as much as more modern ones.

I love that you have 61 days of horror instead of the usual 31 only. I’m with you. When September rolls around, especially mid-September, I’m all about watching the horror movie nightly at least through Halloween.

I highly doubt we're going to get Revenge of the Creature 3-D in HDR someday. But you are correct - HDR does look great. I will make that upgrade at some point, most likely within the next two years. And hopefully prices drop a bit on 4K projectors during that time.

I have a 4k tv with HDR, I just haven't really tried it out because blu-ray's look pretty amazing on it, I won't buy a 4k player until I can find one from 220 Electronics that is region free for 200 bucks or under and most of what I watch is 1970's and earlier and even if I wanted a player right now, there isn't enough content to justify it for me. I'm honestly fine with what I have. Maybe in a couple of years there'll be more content that I'm into.

And friends, I start Halloween/Horror Movie Season in mid August, so I've been working my way through all the Val Lewton titles I own as well as some Hammer. As soon as the Creature and IM sets arrive I'll be digging into those and going through all of the rest of the 2nd-tier Universal titles on the other legacy sets....

I was confused by the red/blue vs polarized 3d as well. I saw Freddy's Dead with the red/blue glasses when I was a kid and I didn't see a polarized 3d until My Bloody Valentine 3d so I thought it was new tech

I have NEVER been to a theatrical screening with red/blue lenses. I'm 58, so I wasn't around to see 3D in the 50's, but I went to many re-releases in the 80's -- House Of Wax, Creature, It Came From Outer Space, Dial M For Murder, etc -- and they have always been with polarized lenses.

Only asking cause there was a similar issue in the Invisible Man thread. How many images do you see here? I posted three and at the moment I see three.

Anaglyphic 3-D was cheaper and easier and that’s why it was used for some features over the past few decades.

Here's a complete list of every anaglyphic 3-D release theatrically from 1966 through 1997. They are highlighted in green for your convenience.

Have been hoping that someone would have received this and posted a review by now, pro or otherwise. Oh well, day one purchase regardless, lol.

Yeah glennstl, next Sat. I'll be starting my watching!

However my problem albeit a good one, I do not know where I'll start with the many horror films?!

Do/should/will I start w/The Universal Monsters (I love to hold these out till sometime in Oct., but there are so many films in each ).

How about the many Hammer horror/Vincent Price films

or watch the many I've never seen as of yet, (will see, I'll try to line them up this week ... oh my ).
