Very tempted, but I feel like I should probably hold off and see if the series receives a proper (as in everything) UHD release. What I've got will do me fine until then.

It's just interesting, because it has never once happened to me, either, nor has it happened to any friends who own similar box sets. I understand that it has happened to people, but it's really never happened to me with Blu-ray, so I never understand why people are so against certain types of packaging since Blu-ray is so scratch-resistant. DVD is a different story, of course.

I consider The Entire Mystery to have the best and most beautiful packaging of any set I've ever seen, and all of my discs were perfect, so I suppose that's why I like it. But a lot of people hate that set for the inconvenience the packaging causes, which I simply can't relate to as the aesthetic value of the packaging was perfect, as were the discs themselves. It would suck if I ever got a set where every disc was scratched, though.

I bought the Blu-ray set that was released in 2014, and that is all I'll ever need.

My sad broken-returned experience with the first fancy TP blu set has made me a convert of regular ol’ blu cases. I think my Return set has faired much better, but I can’t justify $100+ on packaging that would get easily ruined by hap-dash manufacturing or shipping.

I really don’t need this series in UHD, either. It already looks gorgeous just the way it is

I can guarantee you that, at best, only 24,999 copies are still available now. #nerdgasm

Never happened to me, not once. But I also know how to handle my discs, I guess. I also don’t compulsively check with a microscope, but since I’ve never had a disc skip, then, again, it doesn’t matter.

And again, minuscule surface scratches 100% don’t matter. That’s what the protective coating is for. If a disc skips, it’s something else. Sorry.

Have fun not buying it, or still buying it and obsessively filling forum pages talking about a scratch that doesn’t matter.

If only they'd just offer the whole thing in 4k, at least the original series. I don't want to buy everything AGAIN and then AGAIN. Lovely package though!

I was curious if Episode 8 of The Return will be an upscale for the 4K Disc, but according to IMDb, the entire season was shot with arriraw cameras at 3.4k and mastered in 4K. So the episode SHOULD be native 4K, although that doesn't guarantee it'll be the case in the disc.

I’m not sure the original series will ever come out in 4K as there are several bits missing here and there where they had to use upscaled SD shots on the blus.

Assuming they're testing the waters with the UHD disc on this one? Otherwise seems odd only to release two episodes in 4K. If there's a 4K UHD release of the entire series, I'll give them a blank check. Until then, may just hold onto my original sets.

They're milking the hell out of this series.
Which is ironic considering how many years some of us waited for the original series to come out on DVD. Now there's a flood!

It's be nice if they'd release a separate disc of just the new features, buying the whole series again is a little rich for me.

My guess is that it is because that is the most exciting purely visual storytelling done so far this century.

I've seen season 3 five times already, but I've seen episode 8 at least 20 times, and the section featuring the A-bomb blast and subsequent 'hole in space' (or whatever) probably 50 times by now.

Even so, I can't go for this set. When the whole shebang is UHD, then yeah, assuming they don't do something drastic to ruin it, like the CG on FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON, I'd be on it, but the TP blu-rays are gorgeous and I'm good with them for the foreseeable future.

EDIT ADDON: It might also be a sop to VFX vendor BUF, who can use it as a tremendous post-COSMOS showcase for their work.

that's true...that episode is the best showcase for 4K/HDR but it's still weird that only 1 out of 18 episodes is being released in 4K
