Some will feel more comfortable at home. Maybe they were only going because they did not want to wait. I made going to the MCU movies an event I brought tickets for the entire family to go.

What do you mean? A theatrical release is a theatrical release.

I think it’s a bit shit, mainly because I think a lot more careers will be on the line in what is essentially a massive downsizing of the distribution model.

Don’t get me wrong, ease of access is good, but I’m not entirely sure how viable it is with the absolute size of Warner’s movies.

Warner is going to have another round of layoffs soon.

The only reason it's a dying breed is because people aren't going because of the pandemic. Why else would Avengers: Endgame have made $2.7 billion worldwide last year? Does that sound like the result of a dying industry?

This is probably going to cause movie theaters to go extinct, because more people would probably stay home, and watch the movie multiple times on their small screen without any background noise or trailers.

Good job at putting the final nail in the coffin that were theaters. And how much they think 2021 will be.

So congrats! Really. Congrats on the death of the movie going experience!!

Also WB enjoy bankruptcy. Where they are headed after everyone steals all their stuff.

Not unexpected, especially considering that the first 6 months of next year are looking to be nearly a repeat of this year.

Ultimately, I do not think this will have a negative effect in the long run. Short term, however... people are going to enjoy the new toy. That's gonna sting, but they will come back to theaters.

I can see people checking them out at theaters and if they like it, arranging watch parties at home for friends/family.

Also that means we'll be selling more popcorn at work.

So what if we don’t live in the US so we don’t have access to HBO MAX AND our theaters are closed?

The free market sucks sometimes.

On the other hand, I've yet to see a single person lament all the people who worked at cable and dish companies that have lost their jobs in the last 20 years due to the decrease in subscribers for those distribution markets.

That's $21 each, its not a plus one situation. My wife and i both had A-List memberships, spent about $42 a month on that and then there's the egregious price of the concessions. I probably blew through about $200 a week with our kids. Even with the memberships its not like everything else it cheap.

As much as we'd like to think the theatrical experience is affordable, its not unless you're willing to sneak in everything you eat (doable with candy but not popcorn or drinks). And then there's the logistics of bringing kids into the mix and whether the theater is even COVID safe (not all can afford to be).

I'll go support other movies at the theater. None of these. Really don't want to give WB extra money on these after this big FU to theaters. Like I get if they want to do this with some movies, but to take their entire slate and do this? Theaters really could have used some of these big movies. Even letting theaters have them for a month before going to HBOMax would have been better than this.
